I am trying to come up with a list of these. I have noticed three in my own grocery/everyday expenses: Flour bag (nearly 6%), fare (5%) and bread (25-30% fr what i remember just a few days ago).
I suppose they were supposed to increase considering the loss of value for £ after Brexit vote. But I was too busy to take notice and only noticed these three.
Can we please try to document it somehow?

I couldn't really name specific food items but a general weekly shop has gone up by around £7 or £8.

Petrol is the only item I could say has specifically gone up in price and screen wash.

Valentine2 · 30/01/2017 23:02

£300 can be all the difference between lots of small things you can do with DCs Sad
But you are lucky. My last landlord asked for an increase of £100! We left the house but he got new tenants very quickly for that price. Shock

Pot noodles went up 10p. Student Rage

HarryTheHippo · 30/01/2017 23:03

I'm sure white polo shirts for school were cheaper a year ago wheb I bought them. As in really cheap, about £1 a top in asda and a bit more elsewhere.

RockyBird · 30/01/2017 23:04

Scottish butter at Asda gone from 75p a year ago to £1.10 currently. There's more but that's the one I notice.

SemiNormal · 30/01/2017 23:05

There is a courgette shortage but don't think this is related! - I didn't know this, was wandering around for ages looking for them in the supermarket on Sunday!

chipsonthebeach · 30/01/2017 23:06

grilledaubergines the first thing I thought of was Sainsburys butter, but you beat me to it.

A kilo of carrots has gone from 55p last week to 60p this week, but I don't know if that's a simple seasonal fluctuation or a permanent price rise.

LlamaBananas · 30/01/2017 23:07

I havnt noticed any increase recently. It was about this time last year i noticed my grocery shopping rise and clothing probably a year before that (cotton increase).
House prices in my area have risen alot in the past year.

I think it isn't just the decline of the pound - isn't it also EU workers both staying away as well as leaving post Brexit?

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 30/01/2017 23:10

The Association of Labour Providers (ALP), whose employment agency members supply 70% of the temporary labour used by the food and drink industry, recently said responses to job ads had slumped by up to 70% as workers from the EU – who account for 90% of jobs in the sector – avoid coming to the UK

Do you have kind of reference to support that? Please share it. Thanks

red onions in aldi.

SunnySomer · 30/01/2017 23:13

But things like out of season fruit and veg (sweetcorn, lettuce, coriander) that need to be grown overseas can't be a big surprise surely? If you buy apples, leeks, cabbage etc that can be grown locally the price isn't massively different as far as I've noticed.

Valentine2 · 30/01/2017 23:14

But that means we are paying for it! I am sure this spike in prices is not affecting Cameron's weekly shop or May's. but it is affecting my household income and the mainstream media have absolutely never discussed this fall in job seekers from EU. I have not come across this neither did DH.
Who will do these jobs then or will we be the ones facing the consequences as always?

I can remember cucumbers being nearly a £1 a few years ago, now they are 45p. I'll watch out if they start to rise in price.

Valentine2 · 30/01/2017 23:15

sunny
No. I am completely sure that the price of corriander has gone up far more than it did last year at this time. The bunch got smaller too.

i pay my council for a green bin for garden waste

it was free at first then they started charging £30 last year now £40 an increase of over 30%,what goes up that amount over a year

DJBaggySmalls · 30/01/2017 23:21

I buy own brand frozen veg and its all gone up 10 - 30p a bag.
I do a lot of my basic shop at Lidl now, they are so much cheaper on things like toothpaste (39p!) and hand wash, IDK how long that will last though.

Higher inflation in 2017 is expected to coincide with a period of poor wage growth, rising unemployment and weaker economic growth all adding to the pressure on household finances.

No offers on lurpak.

Totally middle class but humous has gone up 10% in tesco since before Christmas.

skankingpiglet · 30/01/2017 23:28

I haven't noticed specific items but our overall weekly shop has gone up massively since the autumn. It used to be £60-80 (varied depending on if there were any expensive occasional-purchase items like gin dishwasher tablets), but I now struggle to get it below £80 and it's more often around £100. That's crazy, particularly as we eat vegetarian food at home so there's no meat included in that!

Valentine2 · 30/01/2017 23:29

That's the point. I a man not struggling per de. But I am struggling to keep it from increasing without missing essentials like basic fruits for kids. This is so wrong. Sad

The Aldi salmon I usually buy has gone up from £2.69 to £4.29 which is a massive jump.

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 30/01/2017 23:33

I have noticed quite a significant increase in Ocado as well. I don't budget per se but the price has gone up across the board. Pepsi is the only thing I noticed specifically because it's rubbish that I don't want to pay for anyway if that makes sense.
