Im astounded at Boris for coming out with something like that during a politically vulnerable time for Northern Ireland. Although I do err towards thinking Boris lives in his own little world.

With reference to N.I. Trumps mother grew up on a Scottish isle, first and main language Gaelic, which faith did she grow up with? I know his wife has Catholic family but it reads that her father has a far left view so didn't want her baptised. Her father must be loving her marriage to the guy that could potentially end life as we know it.

Trumps father was a first generation German immigrant. To think that history could have been totally changed if Trumps grandfather was permitted to marry his German wife in Germany. But not having done National Service, having gone to do business in the US, not even money could buy his Grandfather German citizenship.

It is a very scary time, they say it is usually Republicans in the US who are all for doomsday prep. Now before and after the election, Democrats have started to buy emergency supplies, but not weapons. People driving to stores that specialise in survival training too.

For all you lovely ladies and gents out there, maybe the perfect Valentines Day present would be a few books on foraging, maybe a holiday somewhere that holds foraging courses, or you might have a foraging group close to home. Foraging being utilising plants and flowers to name a few types, that you can eat and gain sustenance from. Some plants even hold in moisture so they date hunger and thirst. It's an interesting hobby to have, even if you don't think the world is going to go tits up.

Although for a long time I have thought what if something hypothetical happened and we had to get away from a residential area in a crisis. In Scotland there's plenty of places, although chilly in the winter months. Being very bored I have looked where others would go, you've got the Peak District, but that is in the dead centre and would get crowded quickly. There's the Lake District, I think that may be utilised by those in northern England thinking that the Peak District might get a bit crowded. I think Devon & Cornwall has a few isolated spots, but location wise not great as close to the Atlantic.

There's Bofey's situated around the UK but I think the owners would monopolise on these to get money. So shelter building or owning a large tent could come in handy.
Maybe we'll live in large groups in the wild. I guess that could work. But you'd still need a leader and hope for professionals with certain skills.

Again the above is hypothetical, but I don't imagine TM being the first to scurry across to DT has does much for our reputation. I'm possibly a pessimist with regards to what is happening, but has it crossed anyone else's mind that the next few years are not going to be all roses, considering what DT has done in days.

The best Tweet I saw was from a woman going Trump your great. Then 28 days later her husband isn't allowed back in the country after going away for work. How quickly can you deflate someone's bubble.

Watching that live feed, they may as well be talking to a brick wall. Only this morning I read that Trump said if Chicago can't get a handle on gun related deaths he will.
How long will it be before marshal law is enacted on.
There was an interesting show on one channel it had Jack Black & other famous people on it. The guy from Arlington Road, can't remember his name. No second season though.
Trump praises Fox News, so much better than CNN who don't report the truth apparently. Laughable considering most people know what is broadcasted usually is there to hide something greater. I'll watch BBC Parliament tomorrow with interest, also on Wednesday for PMQ's.

I mentioned Martial Law last week, and everyone pooh pooh'ed me.

God, I really want to be wrong.

What gets me is how many of you petitioned against other presidents/prime ministers with appalling human rights records visiting the U.K., or are campaigning to get radical extremist preachers off our streets, or complaining that Russia has decriminalised domestic violence???

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/01/2017 06:34

I think cream, that the number of people coming out who haven't protested before demonstrates how shocking these actions have been. It feels like a friend (imperfect friend as all friends are) has turned on the world.

America is a powerful country and to have it turning from one that embraced democracy, to one that is being taken over by a Fascist - well yes, that has to be protested. We don't want to lose it to fascism.

Caprianna · 31/01/2017 06:39

Teresa May should be careful now. She really is on the wrong side of history.

merrymouse · 31/01/2017 06:40

Re: Boris and Northern Ireland, I thought, giving the benefit of the doubt, that the point was that people on both sides had to positively engage with people who had been involved in terrorism as part of the peace process.

Boris was trying to reframe the comment because if he had agreed with it completely he would be putting Trump in the same boat as IRA and loyalist terrorists.

Either way, the point only makes sense if Trump is deeply objectionable and certainly not Britain's strongest ally. I don't think anybody has ever tried to pretend that opposing factions in NI have 'a special relationship'.

M0stlyHet · 31/01/2017 06:52

I have woken up to the news that Trump has sacked the Attorney General! My jaw is on the floor.

merrymouse · 31/01/2017 06:53

cream, nobody is pretending that we have a 'special relationship' with China. We don't have a military alliance with Russia. I don't think any politician in Saudi Arabia is claiming that their supporters were buoyed up by Brexit.

Again, you are putting the leader of the world's only super power on a par with dodgy dictators and then wondering why people are worried.

Some comment on Sally Yates.

Basically, although her actions were understandable, she didn't have sufficient legal arguments to support her actions and should have resigned.

Roussette · 31/01/2017 07:04

creampastry you were on the other thread saying this. Are you saying that because we didn't march against other state visits, or Russia, or radical extremists, we shouldn't be with this one? Firstly, you don't know. Secondly, the POTUS is supposed to be our closest ally and leader of the free world, rather closer to home than maybe some other dictators.

You do not know what other causes we may have protested against and strength of feeling is very high on this, you might want to ask yourself why.

birdsdestiny · 31/01/2017 07:16

Many people on here are protesting against Russia's stance on domestic violence.

Caprianna · 31/01/2017 07:24

He has also fired acting head of inmigration

Grifone · 31/01/2017 07:26

None of this is going to end well Sad

amispartacus · 31/01/2017 07:30

Exactly. I hate the fact we deal with Saudi and Russia. Awful countries.

The USA should be better than this. It just should.

Sean Spicer

.@POTUS has named Dana Boente, US Attorney for the Eastern District of VA as Acting Attorney General. Sally Yates has been relieved.

Relieved? Enemy of the people indeed...

Trump’s disregard for either Secretary of Defense Mattis or Secretary-designate Tillerson in his disastrous policy salvos this week, in favor of his White House advisers, tells you all you need to know about who is really in charge. To be associated with these people is going to be, for all but the strongest characters, an exercise in moral self-destruction.

And the UK is much lower down the list than Tillerson. Our importance doesn't extend beyond Trump's golf courses.

chicaguapa · 31/01/2017 07:41

This blog is interesting reading.

The immigration ban is a headfake

Roussette · 31/01/2017 07:47

Thank you for that chica, I believe all of that in that article

aliceinwanderland · 31/01/2017 07:48

Can't speak for others but I've protested all sorts of human rights abuses.

I think what is pretty shocking is that by all international standards imposing such a ban without any notice is concerning just by the sheer madness of it. Even when I was on en route to a country where martial law was being imposed, passengers were allowed to leave the airport and reach their destination.
