It's a strange thought process where you want to ban abortion but want to remove funding for women's services, DV services.

Where you want to keep Americans safe but support the right to bear arms.

Where you claim to have God on your side but cross the other side of the road.

So we're clear: detaining disabled elderly people based on their nationality & religion isn't Making America Great.

Fucking typical of that mendacious slippery arse BoJo. Not saying it's actually wrong, oh no, because that might upset Uncle Don and he's a bit.... touchy. Just saying it shouldn't apply to us. What a wanker.

amispartacus · 29/01/2017 21:45

I think someone should ask Trump what Jesus would think about what he's done.

It's not just refugees. It's the politics of hate and division. The answer from the Turkish PM about the issue was great - long, detailed and powerful.

Compare the 2 answers - and then think of Trump

In a way I think it's a good thing that there's no effective opposition right now as it is forcing ordinary citizens to step up, connect with others and see that actually they DO have a voice. Pp have been passive for much too long and it's taken something this big to wake pp up.

this will radicalise some Muslims who must be incensed by this and WILL retaliate
A terrorist attack now will give the justification to ramp up the war on Muslims

WH puts out a statement. Shows they realize on some level they're on defense on this

-----------

“America is a proud nation of immigrants and we will continue to show compassion to those fleeing oppression, but we will do so while protecting our own citizens and border. America has always been the land of the free and home of the brave. We will keep it free and keep it safe, as the media knows, but refuses to say. My policy is similar to what President Obama did in 2011 when he banned visas for refugees from Iraq for six months. The seven countries name in the EO are the same countries previously identified by the Obama administration as sources of terror. To be clear, this is not a Muslim ban, as the media is falsely reporting. This is not about religion – this is about terror and keeping our country safe. There are over 40 different countries worldwide thatare majority Muslim that are not affected by this order. We will again be issuing visas to all countries once we are sure we have reviewed and implemented the most secure policies over the next 90 days. I have tremendous feeling for the people involved in this horrific humanitarian crisis in Syria. My first priority will always be to pretect and serve our country, but as President I will find ways to help all those who are suffering.”

Indeed. Something is coming.

OP posts:
merrymouse · 29/01/2017 21:51

It's not just that this will cause the direct radicalisation of Muslims. The wider international Muslim community are needed to fight terrorism in many, many ways. This breaks ties and erodes confidence.

what value does any promise from the US government, intelligence services or armed forces have now?

Note the repeated accusations about the media and complaining about them. It just never ever stops. He sounds like a whiny toddler. And I won't even dignify "This is not a Muslim ban" with a response at this point. Hmm

Iam: "The answer from the Turkish PM about the issue was great - long, detailed and powerful."

I'd beware of holding up Erdogan as a paragon of virtue. Since the failed coup, he's attacked the press, schools, universities, the judiciary. Turkey is already where the US will be in about 3 or 4 months at Trump's current rate of progress.

Am probably more Irish than anything else - but born & brought up in London... am going to get my dual citizenship once I have all the money & papers (need mummy's death certificate & think I nec Daddy's current marriage certificate as well, though what that's to do with anything I don't know!) together. I was born when "we" were still the terrorists. And Daddy was working in the NI office (Catholic but lots of mixed-marriages NI family with unionist leanings... that's how he was allowed a Civil Service post... unlike a former Brownie mummy who was deemed A Suspicious Person due to Irish Catholic family background... good thing they didn't check out mummy's family tree... ) including going to see Fair Elections taking place. Is the worst nightmares as a toddler about Ian Paisley killing my Daddy... My corner of London was always very Irish as I was growing up, but we've been replaced by other migrants, as is the way of things. Well, migrants & bloody gentrification attempts. They can all feck off...

I have, though, brought petition to notice of the Ireland Twitter account; and tweeted Dara Ó Briain about it too.

(In other news, a historian of the C18 bopped up to help me with my anti-fascism, which was nice of him...)
