We should remember and teach our children to remember.

I am so sorry to hear the area you live in is experiencing a high level of antisemitic hate crime. It is sadly a growing phenomenon. It is disgusting. There is no excuse and should be punished as severely as it can be.

I have felt more recently that our time as Jews here in Europe is not safe. I have considered moving away with my family. I would not want to leave it too late.

The world does not seem to have learned anything at all.

Strongmummy · 28/01/2017 15:07

Sorry, but criticising Israel (who cynically use the holocaust to justify occupying land) is not anti Semitic.

MyBeloved · 28/01/2017 15:08

@strongmummy
What? Who mentioned Israel?

Strongmummy · 28/01/2017 15:09

Someone said Corbyn was anti Semitic. He criticised Israel. Two different things.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 28/01/2017 15:13

Someone said Corbyn was anti Semitic. He criticised Israel. Two different things.

Bingo card, Israel has been mentioned.

Corbyn has failed to do anything about anti-semitism in the Labour party. The report for a peerage was a joke.

Stilitzvert · 28/01/2017 15:14

I didn't say Corbyn was anti-Semitic, I said that under his Labour Party anti-semitism has become acceptable and that is true. They have not denounced anti Semitic comments. I never mentioned Israel. Criticising Israel isn't anti-Semitic but unfortunately it's increasingly used by as a mask for anti Semitic rhetoric. One of the reasons Jews are often so supportive of Israel even when the actions of the Israel government are questionable is because they know that with what's going on elsewhere in the world and the increased anti semitism it might be the only place they feel safe.

Strongmummy · 28/01/2017 15:15

Of course Israel is mentioned. The irony of Israel isn't lost on most people. A country founded by those fleeing horrific oppression and now oppressing.

MyBeloved · 28/01/2017 15:16

No, I mentioned there were antisemitic posts on an official labour party Holocaust remembrance posts- along with Holocaust denial.

JC has allowed those with anti semitic views into the fold which is what I assume a PP was alluding to.

But this is certainly NOT the thread for this discussion. Please start a different thread if you wish to discuss that....again. this thread is about THE HOLOCAUST- just a reminder. To discuss anything except how awful the Holocaust was would be inhuman and disrespectful.

Stilitzvert · 28/01/2017 15:17

I agree -

Strongmummy · 28/01/2017 15:18

It's great jews have the right to go to Israel. My family have no such right of return to their home after being kicked out in 1948

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 28/01/2017 15:18

Strongmummy My DH DGF was an Aushwitz survivor. Although he wanted to, illness as a result, ment he never made it to Israel.

I see that on a thread about the Holocaust you have done nothing but defend Corbyn and mention Israel.

Strongmummy · 28/01/2017 15:20

No I also talked about how my family were involved in the Armenian holocaust

Strongmummy · 28/01/2017 15:23

I think many of us feel that other atrocities are ignored. I'd hope you can understand how upsetting that is. However I apologise for causing offence

876TaylorMade · 28/01/2017 15:33

I'll never forget what David Cameron said in 2015. When he delivered the prison gift...

"slavery is the past and we should move on" parapharsing

But a week later was remembering the Holocaust... he did nothing wrong.

If you go from my example you can see why people say other atrocities throughout human history are being minimised and forgotten.

But again I wonder if race plays a factor in what we choose to commiserate.

Bigbiscuits · 28/01/2017 15:37

hmd.org.uk/page/holocaust-genocides

Here is a page from the official Holocaust Rememerance day website. If you scroll down you will see a section on Armenia

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 28/01/2017 15:38

Thanks Bigbiscuits I was about to look for that got distracted by DSD

Strongmummy · 28/01/2017 15:38

Exactly TaylorMade

Strongmummy · 28/01/2017 15:39

Thank you, but the Turks and Israel don't recognise the Armenian holocaust I'm afraid.

Strongmummy · 28/01/2017 15:40

It would be like the Germans denying what they did during ww2

birdybirdywoofwoof · 28/01/2017 15:47

I'm glad you understood Taylor's incoherent post strongmummy, because I didn't.

Didn't get the bit about David Cameron at all.

Can you tell me who is minimising and forgetting other massacres please? Is it holocaust survivors themselves? Do they give you the hump eh, always going on about the holocaust?

I know about the horrendous Armenian massacre and believe me I wouldn't dream of saying that by remembering that I am forgetting other tragedies.

Of course you know that many holocaust survivors speak out against oppression everywhere- the Anne frank centre is fighting trump, lord dubs is fighting for the refugee children.

The only reason people make a big deal of six million put in gas chambers is because they are Jews, is that your theory 876?

Prettybaffled · 28/01/2017 15:47

Strong, it's totally rubbish that the Armenian genocide isn't more widely recognised - I am really sorry.

Prettybaffled · 28/01/2017 15:48

I meant rubbish as in it's awful, not as in what you say is wrong.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 28/01/2017 15:50

Sorry 876TaylorMade I don't understand most of that post at all.

Strongmummy · 28/01/2017 15:52

The perpetrators deny it ffs!!!!
