to find it annoying that dh didn't laugh at my joke?

Put dd to bed and went downstairs. Dh called me into front room to ask me something about our diaries. He had the computer open and I guess was doing a bit of admin. We chatted a bit about the kids. Then I said, oh I Heard a comedy sequence earlier that I thought you'd appreciate. (He is always quoting snippets of a particular comedian he likes). At this he started looking at the computer. So I said it will only take a minute. So looking at the clock, to mentally time it, he turned his attention to me. I told the radio joke, probably quite badly. He looked unimpressed and condescending throughout. Then commented at the end 'I'm sorry I don't find that funny, I've heard those shows before and they're quite weak. Told me a couple of reasons it was a bad joke. And said...The comedy is more in the line of X show (which he doesn't get but I found funny the one time we saw it).' Then when I looked annoyed he saId 'sorry, I am just not In the mood when I'm in this room/in work mode. You need to catch me at X time.' I just found the whole exchange really annoying. Would it have been so hard to say har har? Or was it annoying of me to badly retell a joke? (Not something I do regularly).

Is he usually like this, or is this a bad day for him?

Either way, the next few times he quotes his favourite comedian, I'd look bored and say flatly 'oh that one, you've told it before'. Hmm

Nobody is under obligation to laugh at a joke they don't find funny. Extremely odd of you to expect that.

Flisstizzy · 24/01/2017 22:09

YANBU, make a mental note to behave in a similar arse-hole type way when he recites ones of his snippets.

DearMrDilkington · 24/01/2017 22:10

Tell him the joke about the three legged donkey. Everyone loves the three legged donkey.

AtSea1979 · 24/01/2017 22:11

No obligation but he was bloody rude!

Oysterbabe · 24/01/2017 22:11

What was the joke?

TheCustomaryMethod · 24/01/2017 22:12

YANBU - if it wasn't a good time, he should have asked you to save it for later, not let you tell it and then sneer at you.

EasterRobin · 24/01/2017 22:12

What a grump. Jokes are good.

fusspot66 · 24/01/2017 22:14

My Ex H is like this. Something is only funny if he says it is.
It sulks the joy from your life.

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 24/01/2017 22:15

(He is always quoting snippets of a particular comedian he likes).

This is the bit that leaps out at me, OP.

You know what to do in the future.

user1484317265 · 24/01/2017 22:15

Something is only funny if he says it is

You mean like all other humans?

Sweets101 · 24/01/2017 22:16

He doesn't want you to out do him. twat

PrincessNakedAsAJayBird · 24/01/2017 22:17

I love shit jokes- my nephew tells the best. What's brown and sticky?
I held back from saying 'a stick.' then he informed in much hilarity 'poooooooo'!!

ShatnersBassoon · 24/01/2017 22:17

It's a bit weird. He could have just pretended to find it a bit funny to make you stop and go away instead of discussing the many ways it wasn't funny.

I hate people trying to repeat things they found funny though. It's always awkward and I silently will them to get it over and done with. I don't make them feel stupid for it though, just don't go OTT with the laughter in case it encourages them. At worst, if the joke really falls flat, I'll say "perhaps you had to be there..."

Notsleepingeveragain · 24/01/2017 22:18

He already apologised because he wasn't in the mood.

I find it weird that you get annoyed about his reaction after he has explained he's not in the mood.

DeidrePewtey · 24/01/2017 22:18

Maybe it was a shit joke?

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 24/01/2017 22:20

I know I'm a poor substitute for your husband, but I loved the toiletries meme, Cara.

Asuitablemum · 24/01/2017 22:22

I think it was a pretty shit joke actually. It was a but out of one of the radio four comedy shows about David starky getting annoyed about his book sales. I didn't even find it that funny But something about it reminded me of his sense of humour. For those that asked, yes he is regularly bad tempered :(.

Asuitablemum · 24/01/2017 22:23

Haha cara. I love the first one

Does your husband expect your rapt attention when he starts quoting comedians/routines, OP?

Asuitablemum · 24/01/2017 22:30

Not especially but he does really appreciate when I laugh or take an interest. It follows inform yesterday. Dh 'will you watch space odyssey and jaws with me?' Me 'err yes but they're lots of other movies that I'd like to see too/more'. Dh 'I'm not watching legally blonde or some crap like that' me ' i like lots of great movies' him 'sceptical' me 'besides legally blonde is a very good, feminist movies'. And the fact is that whilst I do like legally blind and the X factor etc, I actually really like lots of foreign language films, action, musicals, comedy, documentary etc etc.

Excuse my rubbish typing errors. I'm on my phone.

Foureyesarebetterthantwo · 24/01/2017 22:31

He could have vaguely smiled, or not reacted, or even said 'you know what I'm not really in a jokey mood, can we do this later?' in an upbeat way, but he didn't, he sounds like an arse with his response. I wouldn't want a lecture on it!

Chloe84 · 24/01/2017 22:31

Practice raising your eyebrow, OP.

And then hoik it up next time he doles out one of his gem.
