Put dd to bed and went downstairs. Dh called me into front room to ask me something about our diaries. He had the computer open and I guess was doing a bit of admin. We chatted a bit about the kids. Then I said, oh I Heard a comedy sequence earlier that I thought you'd appreciate. (He is always quoting snippets of a particular comedian he likes). At this he started looking at the computer. So I said it will only take a minute. So looking at the clock, to mentally time it, he turned his attention to me. I told the radio joke, probably quite badly. He looked unimpressed and condescending throughout. Then commented at the end 'I'm sorry I don't find that funny, I've heard those shows before and they're quite weak. Told me a couple of reasons it was a bad joke. And said...The comedy is more in the line of X show (which he doesn't get but I found funny the one time we saw it).' Then when I looked annoyed he saId 'sorry, I am just not In the mood when I'm in this room/in work mode. You need to catch me at X time.' I just found the whole exchange really annoying. Would it have been so hard to say har har? Or was it annoying of me to badly retell a joke? (Not something I do regularly).

It's good to get both perspectives actually.

Winky wonkey Grin

Surely the only reaction to a joke you don't find funny (unless it's racist or sexist etc) is to roll your eyes and groan?! Especially when someone you love is telling you?

My husband is the WORST at telling jokes (I, naturally, am the best Grin) but even he gets this treatment!

I'd forgive him if he'd had bad news otherwise I'd give him a deadpan comment back.

moreslackthanslick · 25/01/2017 13:27

I find the daily mash hysterically funny, my DH always says it isn't when I read out the snippets. Grrrr

Is your DD very little? If she is he's going to have to seriously up his game in the 'laughing at rubbish jokes' arena when she starts telling them.
Give him some practice by telling him 'jokes' like

'what is a horse ? BUM'
'Why is a poo. POOOOOOOOOOOOO. (Wee)'

welovepancakes · 25/01/2017 14:15

Even if your joke wasn't brilliant & the delivery wasn't either & the timing wasn't great - surely it wouldn't hurt him to smile and say "Ha, good one". What a misery guts

DJBaggySmalls · 25/01/2017 14:22

I think he was rude and condescending. Do you two ever have actual conversations about anything, especially trivial things?

scampimom · 25/01/2017 14:41

Timing!

scampimom · 25/01/2017 14:42

Oh no, sorry, I meant, what's the secret of comedy?

So next time he's repeating jokes give him the same bored response

Hinbu to not find something funny but hibu to painstakingly explain why it's not funnt

Winky wonky Grin

My favourite joke ever is: two fish are sitting in a tank. One says to the other, "you man the guns, I'll drive!"

NewtScamandersNaughtyNiffler · 25/01/2017 15:28

My bf is always telling me jokes I just don't find funny. I don't laugh because they aren't funny Confused Then he moans that I never laugh at his jokes.

Mind you he also moans about my lack of movie knowledge.

RhiWrites · 25/01/2017 16:16

I want to know the David Starkey book sales joke!

scampimom · 25/01/2017 16:24

It was more of a sketch than a single joke. I do love the John Finnemore souvenir programme, especially the ranty songs, but it's impossible to re-produce them perfectly from memory.

Although his "Put it on a plate" song is chanted gleefully and repeatedly here.

DoNotBlameMeIVotedRemain · 25/01/2017 16:49

If DH doesn't laugh at my jokes I insist they are funny and that he has no soul Wink

Agree the correct expression is eye roll plus groan on hearing a bad joke. He needs to lighten up.

DoNotBlameMeIVotedRemain · 25/01/2017 16:51

I agree - I want to know the David Starkey too.

scampimom · 25/01/2017 16:58

Dingo Starr - about 5 mins in:

It's actually right at the beginning in the first minute.
