To ask how much you would expect to pay for this cake?

So I've started up a cake business and I'm struggling with pricing. There is quite a lot of competition in my area so want to price competitively but also want to make a profit! Some of the people I've quoted have been fine with my prices, others have scoffed and said far too expensive. I've attached a picture. Can you tell me how much you would expect to pay? I won't tell you how much I would charge to influence you

Mermaid36 · 24/01/2017 21:27

Easily £35 to £40

RoganJosh · 24/01/2017 21:28

If it's normal birthday cake sized then I'd expect it to be £45.

Nanasueathome · 24/01/2017 21:28

Is it a sponge cake or a fruit cake?

wobblywonderwoman · 24/01/2017 21:28

About 35

wowfudge · 24/01/2017 21:28

£37.50

FuckOffDailyMailQuitQuotingMN · 24/01/2017 21:28

Cakes like that go for about £100-£125 here in London. On these threads price does seem to vary quite widely from region to region.

PolaDeVeboise · 24/01/2017 21:28

Yup, I'd say £40.

VanillaSugar · 24/01/2017 21:28

£25

MrsTerryPratchett · 24/01/2017 21:29

Try the one third labour cost, one third materials, one third profit equation. What pops out?

missm0use · 24/01/2017 21:29

About £35 - £40.

MrsBellefleur · 24/01/2017 21:29

A sponge one like that from our cake lady would be £40.

NowwhatdoIdo123 · 24/01/2017 21:29

My friend is a professional cake maker, and for that, she would probably charge around £50

Ineedanewbody · 24/01/2017 21:32

£50-60?

Aeroflotgirl · 24/01/2017 21:32

I am paying her £45 for a non character chocolate creation for feed 14 kids

SageYourResoluteOracle · 24/01/2017 21:32

I'd expect to pay around £60- £70. Ingredients would cost a fair amount- sugar paste ain't that cheap- and the time to bake, make buttercream, crumb coat and then cover and decorate would amount to something like 3- 4 hours. So, if ingredients were around £15-20 and time at £10 per hour plus a bit of profit = £60 and up.

MadisonAvenue · 24/01/2017 21:33

Around £50. It looks lovely.

Kmxxx14 · 24/01/2017 21:33

£50

SleepFreeZone · 24/01/2017 21:33

You have to work out what it costs you to make in energy, materials and labour and then work out a profit margin. As you gain experience you will get quicker and more proficient. There is no point in charging less if you end up making a loss.

Falalalafffffffttt · 24/01/2017 21:33

I make cakes badly and while that looks simple, to get it so manicured is tricky! I'd say between £40 or £50.
