To ask how much you would expect to pay for this cake?

So I've started up a cake business and I'm struggling with pricing. There is quite a lot of competition in my area so want to price competitively but also want to make a profit! Some of the people I've quoted have been fine with my prices, others have scoffed and said far too expensive. I've attached a picture. Can you tell me how much you would expect to pay? I won't tell you how much I would charge to influence you

Im useless at this sort of thing. How much do the ingrediants cost, cooking, time making it? Tbh i buy marks and spencer cakes so never bought from someone so id say £10 but thats based on shop bought. Im sure yours is more expensive due to effect etc so maybe £25. Can you get a friend to call other cake makers in your area.

wowfudge · 24/01/2017 21:34

I am in the South East though and things tend to be pricier here.

Aeroflotgirl · 24/01/2017 21:34

Those who have scoffed at the prices, don't realise the work that goes into a cake like that! Its not something you can get from ASDA for £10, plus the cake will be of a high quality, in comparison to a sickly sweet supermarket one.

Underthemoonlight · 24/01/2017 21:35

I would say 40

rollonthesummer · 24/01/2017 21:35

I wouldn't pay more than £25 for a cake. I am more than happy to buy a supermarket cake though!!

SleepFreeZone · 24/01/2017 21:35

Personally I would expect to pay about £40 for it or at least I wouldn't be looking at paying anymore than that.

FeelingSmurfy · 24/01/2017 21:35

I would say about £55 (Liverpool)

Boolovessulley · 24/01/2017 21:36

£30.

DearMrDilkington · 24/01/2017 21:36

I'd say £40-£50. It's very cute, someone will be very happy on their birthday!Grin

Xmasbaby11 · 24/01/2017 21:36

£40 - 50

It is hard to make a cake that is simple and perfect!

Aeroflotgirl · 24/01/2017 21:36

candy, What, that's not helpful!

MoreThanUs · 24/01/2017 21:36

9 inch isn't that big, so I'd say £40.

user1477282676 · 24/01/2017 21:36

About 50 pounds. 35 would be very cheap considering the cost of ingredients and then the labour. You've got to make a profit.

wowfudge · 24/01/2017 21:37

I think I've under priced - £45.

budgiegirl · 24/01/2017 21:37

For an 8" sponge I'd charge £60, for a 10" I'd charge £75.

Some people will pay that, some won't. But be confident in your pricing, you want to make a profit, you don't want to end up working long hours for little profit. It's better to start the way you mean to go on. You want to be known as the person that makes great cakes that are worth paying for, not the person that makes cheap cakes.

superram · 24/01/2017 21:37

I live in London and would expect to pay maximum £50. It is lovely but the reason many cake makers don't make money is that people don't value your time. It is not that much better (I'm sure it is inside) to 20 kids than a Tesco cake which is why many people will expect to pay £10. I think cake making is a hard business-good luck.

CocoLoco87 · 24/01/2017 21:39

I'd pay £40-£50.

NowwhatdoIdo123 · 24/01/2017 21:40

9 inch round is approx 24 servings. I use a cake maker for birthday cakes and would expect to pay £50-£60 for this cake. I'm in Surrey. Hope that helps.

AndNowItsSeven · 24/01/2017 21:40

£35.

WorldsSmallestPatio · 24/01/2017 21:41

24 servings Shock

A nine inch cake is 8 slices in our house Grin

bijouxxx · 24/01/2017 21:41

£45
