to go to confession if I'm not a Catholic?

I'm not religious. But I really want to talk to someone about some issues I'm having with (probably out of proportion) guilt. I can't afford therapy, which I suspect would be my best bet. Am I allowed to go and talk to a priest?

But please make sure you avoid cults. You sound like you might be a prime target for that type.

Posters aren't wrong to tell OP that confession doesn't work the way she thinks.

It's a sacrament and the criteria is clear.

That's not to say she shouldn't speak to a priest, but it wouldn't be Confession.

Thank you so much for all the very thoughtful and kind responses - lovely to find these after the school run Smile.

I feel clearer about certain things now. To clarify for a PP, I haven't done anything illegal or anything. But I haven't always acted how I wish I had in retrospect. I've already made a lot of changes, but need to come to terms with the past.
