To think putting on pyjamas after swimming class at 5pm is a bit weird?

My DD has a swim lesson 4:15 to 4:45 and other children change into their pjs after their class. Is this the new thing? Never seen it before. Is this a little early to be in pjs?

Us too OptimisticSix! Anyway I can make life easier, I'm all over it!*

Definitely, also the kids love it, especially being all warm and comfy in the winter Smile ... glitterazi making my life easier is conducive to my good mental health and the kids are happy if I'm happy. I'd say it's win win really Grin

Aspiringcatlady · 20/01/2017 00:26

When my DS did swimming (slightly later time) he put pjs/onesie on after a shower because it is just easier to pop on when you have just been swimming. I hate getting changed after swimming!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 20/01/2017 00:27

Well that depends - they might go to the supermarket on their way home, I've seen lots of children there in pjs too.

I don't particularly care what other people do, but I wouldn't do it. I take a loose shirt (t or sweat depending on weather) and pair of trackies for DS1 to put on after his swimming - he always changes out of school uniform into these when he comes home from school anyway, so it's just doing the same thing. He'd be horrified if I brought his pjs! But then he finishes swimming at 4:30...

CwtchMawr · 20/01/2017 00:27

Might have been my daughter you saw, her lesson is that time and that's exactly what we do. By the time she's showered and hair washed it's 5pm, by time we get home it's about 5.20. She has her tea and then plays and is in bed by 6.30 as we leave the house at 7.15 the following day.
It makes no sense at all to me to put her back in her uniform for an hour and then have her get changed again.

AgainstTheOddsNo2 · 20/01/2017 00:30

When dd had her swimming lessons at that time she would be put in the night beforesky onesie as it was quick and easy to get on then home for tea a bath and fresh Pj's.

SouthWindsWesterly · 20/01/2017 00:31

Mine do this. As long as they have a shower, what's the problem?

Lindy2 · 20/01/2017 00:35

Swimming lessons at 6pm then straight into cosy onesies for the drive home. It works well for us. I don't really care what other people do.

ceeveebee · 20/01/2017 00:43

I put my 5 yo twins in onesies after swimming, no showers, and then stick them in the bath when we get home, and I couldn't give a fuck what anyone thinks about it - it works for us!

OverByYer · 20/01/2017 01:06

Wish I'd thought of this when mine were small.
A nice cosy onesie after swimming sounds perfect.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/01/2017 01:11

Not weird at all

Used to always do this after swimming and once showered with all the children I nannied for

Artandco · 20/01/2017 07:04

It's mainly because school uniform is much more of a faff when in a hurry. Around here all uniform is proper shirts, tights for girls, long knee high socks for boys, pinafores etc.. so fiddly buttons and stuff. After swimming want just speed and leave

NormaSmuff · 20/01/2017 07:11

i dont think it's nice, put pyjamas on at home, otherwise you might as well go to bed in your day clothes. your pyjamas are going to pick up all the mess from outside which then transfer to the bed. not hygienic .
if school uniform is a faff to put back on, take joggers

youarenotkiddingme · 20/01/2017 07:11

Dis swims for a club. They train 6pm. Most of them go in onesies and shower after back into them! These are pre teens/teens!

It's much easier. Most wear shirt/tie/blazer to school and that's a pita to wear swimming. IT also saves another set of clothes - tracksuit - just to wear to pool and back.

user1470041360 · 20/01/2017 07:12

Glitza whatever your name is. Do you have a problem you'd like to discuss with the group? We're here for you.

Pinksink · 20/01/2017 07:15

My daughters (7 years) swimming lesson finishes at 7. She has a shower, puts pjs and onesie on, we go straight home to bed. Would be ridiculous
To dress her after shower then change her 15 mins later at home.

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 20/01/2017 07:15

Mine get into onesies (without shower - gasp) because it's the quickest and easiest way to get them dressed and out of the changing rooms (especially the eldest who has to go in the mens by himself).

They come home, have tea, then shower and put fresh pjs on.

Grumpbum · 20/01/2017 07:17

completely run out of fucks to give if people think this is a bad thing.
Swim, shower, home for tea and play/reading then bed.

Transferring germs from outside? That really made me laugh, so many germs from walking through changing room and into the car. Lol

InvisibleKittenAttack · 20/01/2017 07:30

Actually this is a great idea! Dc1 used to swim at 8:30 on Saturday morning so would put trunks under trackie bottoms and t-shirt then have underwear to go on fresh after his shower, but now swims at 4:30 on a Friday night, finishing at 5, it always seems a bit horrible that he's putting his underwear and socks back on he's been wearing all day after his shower, but then seems silly to but on fresh to come home, eat a light dinner then put his pjs on.

I might suggest this for this evening, clean pjs post shower.

Borntoflyinfirst · 20/01/2017 07:32

We do this as do most of the kids at our swim classes. We started with onsies in the winter but the kids find it fun and easier to put pj's on even if they are shortie ones in the summer now. It's just easier than getting back into a school uniform. Can't see how it affects anyone else.

Slarti · 20/01/2017 07:45

It doesn't seem any different to wearing your pyjamas to the shop or school run. It's convenient and comfortable, yes, laziness often is.

minesapintofAFwine · 20/01/2017 07:50

I think it sounds like a great idea! When my dc were little we would sometimes take them out for a later evening stroll in the summer in pjs. Thin jacket on noone seemed to notice tbh

LaurieMarlow · 20/01/2017 07:52

The 'I don't do it, therefore it's weird and wrong' mentality of some people on this thread is staggering.

Other people do things differently. It works for them. Open your mind a tiny smidge.

ChocChocPorridge · 20/01/2017 07:54

We had to fight rush hour traffic to get back after DS1's swimming lesson, plus I had baby/toddler DS2, so hell yes, I just whacked a onsie on him (fleecy if possible) and shoved him in the car. If I could have got away with wrapping a towel around him then I would - because every 5 minutes we delayed leaving the pool meant another 10 on the road, and it all adds up if the swimming lesson ends at 5!

ChocChocPorridge · 20/01/2017 07:57

Can someone tell me what the difference is between pyjamas, and joggers and sweatshirt? Because to my eye, they're virtually identical.

My kids have some skinny pyjamas, that are just leggings, no different from any other leggings - why shouldn't they wear them out?

What is it that makes one piece of fabric wrong to wear out, and some other piece of fabric right? Do the 'lazy to wear pyjamas' crew do something particularly special in/with/on their sleeping clothes that I don't know about? Is that why I'm baffled at this arbitrary line drawn?

blueberrygoose · 20/01/2017 08:03

My child (5) goes swimming at 6-6.30 and I put her in jammies after the lesson as she is likely to fall asleep in the car on the way home and then it's easy enough for me to transfer her into bed.
