AIBU... Fuming!!

My DP bought me a pair of GHDs for Christmas, I've used them a handful of times for 10 mins and today they have broke! To say I'm fuming is an understatement, they haven't even lasted a month!

Luckily there is a 12 month warranty and I can send them to be repaired, but now I have no faith in them and don't believe they're going to last very long! Angry

I want a refund and want to buy a different brand but I know I'm not entitled to one Sad

If they brake again after being repaired can I demand a refund and claim they're not fit for purpose?

Your contact is with the shop not GHD, return them to the shop.

IpDipCatnip · 17/01/2017 10:42

Fuming aside Hmm mine are still going strong since 2004!

jumpjumpformylove · 17/01/2017 11:24

Hate to know how you'd react in a genuinely catastrophic situation...might want to spend the GHD money on some anger management classes.

SoupDragon · 17/01/2017 11:35

I love all the over reactions about the OP's overreaction by using the word "fuming"

:o

My DD is still using my old GHD's.
Probably 10+ years old.
They don't work as well as they did.
I have Remingtons now.
Much better and far far cheaper.

IpDip I have had mine since 2004 also, still working well jinxing myself. Think you have been unlucky op, just get them replaced, don't waste your energy fuming.

TaliDiNozzo · 17/01/2017 12:01

GHDs are no longer the holy grail of hair straighteners unfortunately. The used to be, but they are made differently now. I bought Cloud 9 ones last year and they are so much better.

badtime · 17/01/2017 12:10

Basically, things are most likely to break when they are very old (because they are worn out) or very new (because they had a defect that wasn't detected when sold. It doesn't mean that the brand is shit, just that the particular item you got is defective.

AlmaMartyr · 17/01/2017 12:21

Sorry your pair have broken, I hate it when new things break on me. I've had my GHDs since 2007 and they're still working perfectly so I think you are probably just unlucky.

xStefx · 17/01/2017 12:22

Aw yeah ive had mine for 9 years and they have never broke. You just were unlucky. Im sure the next pair will be fine .

KinkyAfro · 17/01/2017 12:38

Mine have lasted since 2000. GHD now are rubbish, apparently the guys who were originally at GHD are now at Cloud 9

usernotfound0000 · 17/01/2017 12:46

My GHDs died yesterday after about 10 years. I couldn't justify the cost of a new pair so I got some cheap put-me-on ones £20 by Remington and they are just as good as my GHDs.

NuclearSwan · 17/01/2017 13:15

Mine have lasted 5 years so far

JournosAreLazy · 17/01/2017 13:18

I've had mine since 2004 Grin used daily (albeit just to do front bits rather than all over). Must be a faulty set. Exchange, calm down and see how you get on with your new set before becoming fuming.

monkeywithacowface · 17/01/2017 13:24

Fuming? That's a bit silly. It's just a faulty item happens to both high end and low end products.

hellsbells99 · 17/01/2017 14:13

Please read my previous posts - particularly those of you saying you GHDs are 10 years old (as are mine) and op has just been unlucky.
The NEW GHDs appear to have an inherent fault and lots are being returned as faulty.

KayTee87 · 17/01/2017 14:40

That's bizarre. Mine are 5 years old with no problems (touch wood). How do you store them? Don't wrap the cable around them if you're doing that.

LouBlue1507 · 17/01/2017 14:52

Hi all!

DP bought the straighteners online from the GHD website and phoned them this morning. They told him we need to send them back so that they can be repaired.

I have looked into cloud9s and was had planned to get myself a pair with my Xmas money. But DP bought me the GHDs first and I didn't want to seem ungrateful by saying they weren't the ones I wanted. It was really thoughtful of him and one of the best presents he has got for me.

Yes I was fuming! My hair was a big curly mess, I had two bobbles snap on me Angry and then my almost brand new straighteners broke! All on very little sleep and running late for uni. It all adds up.

Don't diss the fakes! I have a set still going strong after 8 years. £15 from an Egyptian market.
DH did buy me genuine ones for my birthday so I keep the fakes as spares, god help the world that was ever subjected to my frizzy, curly mess of a morning Grin

Almostfifty · 17/01/2017 16:35

Tell them they're faulty and you'll send them back and want a refund.

Quote the Sale of Goods Act to them.

FrenchJunebug · 17/01/2017 16:58

I have to ask: what are GHD?

KayTee87 · 17/01/2017 16:59

french they're hair straighteners. Ghd stands for good hair day, I think.

TeaBelle · 17/01/2017 17:03

Check the fuse, only thing to have ever gone wrong on mine

FrenchJunebug · 18/01/2017 10:26

thank you Kay
