I'm 5'6 and my ideal weight is 9st7. I'm 10st at the moment and feel a bit chubby. Right in the middle of the healthy Bmi range works for me.

I'm 5ft 5inches and weigh 7 stone 10lbs. I'm fit, exercise regularly and eat healthily. I do think it's a lot do with a good diet and keeping fit - if you consume more calories than you burn off you will put on weight. Just doing small things - like not snacking, cutting down or cutting out alcohol and limiting sugar intake can make a huge difference on its own. As can taking the stairs as opposed to an elevator, walking wherever possible etc.

It's interesting that so many of you know what your friends weigh.

She writes it on her Crossfit Games profile :-)

It's not something I'd ask directly!

Height to waist ratio should be 50% or under (i.e. your waist should be half or less of your height).

Your waist is essentially measured around your belly button.

Weight, intrinsically, isn't necessarily the important thing, but this ratio is a marker for all sorts of acquired diseases that you really can and should want to avoid.

I'm the same height I got down to 148lbsfrom 176 last year (it's crept back up to 160 now).

Once I got down at 11 stone I physically felt lighter, at 148lbs I had no real back fat, a noticeable quite small waist and my thighs and hips were much smaller. My stomach whilst not a six pack was flat and not podgy and you could just see my ribs in a healthy way. I fitted into a 10/small in the shops I like to buy from fat face/ monsoon etc. most importantly I felt healthy I didn't feel slow and lethargic I hadn't even realised Id felt like that before and the occasional backache and frequent headaches I got disappeared. Just need to get back to that now.

Impossible to say. I'm 5"5, size 14 and weigh 14.5 stone. I'm fit and muscular. But very very unhealthy if you listen to BMI charts etc!

I am your height and currently weigh 11 stone (actually a bit over today but I am in my period which always puts me up a few lbs). I would say at the moment I am on the chubby side but not fat at all! (Still in my size 12s)

I got down to 9st10lb about 18 months ago which was a size 10 for me. I felt bloody awful though and looked ill. I hated it and actively gained weight. My ideal is about 10st5lb and hope to get back there soon!!

I'm about that height.

The health range is about 124-155lbs.

But that sort of info is widely available on Google.

What extra perspective do you think MNetters are going to be able to give?

I find I look 'best' if my BMI is just under 20, but anything under 25 is fine (assuming you're not a builder, or a serious level, athlete)

It's entirely dependent on you and your body. If you don't feel comfortable at the size you're at then eat healthy, cut out junk and get more exercise.

For me I'm happy at 5'6 and 11.5 to 12 stone. That puts me at a size 12/14 and I feel good, fit and I'm rarely sick, and it means that, while I generally eat healthy, I can have treats on the weekend and enjoy a couple of bottles of wine without feeling guilty. I think it's the size that's best for my physical and mental health.

People have their weight distributed differently. I am 5'5 and 9 stone 3. Someone else of my height/weight or near might be a size 10 or even an 8 but I wear a size 12. This is because of the way my weight is distributed - I have very skinny arms and legs (skinny jeans look like bootcut, can't get knee boots that fit) and bigger boobs/belly. The skinny arms and legs are more on show and make people think I am thin and the boobs/belly mean I need a size 12.

I'm a little taller than you, and trying to drop a few pounds after putting a couple on over Christmas. I'm trying to get to 9St so if I were a bit shorter I would be looking at comfortably being 8 1/2 I think.

Go to a doctor that's specialised in these kind of things.

Seriously, that depends on so many factors. Your build, age, sex, the amount of muscles you have etc....

Unless you're an actual weightlifter, BMI is a reasonable guide at your height and if you aim to get to 11 stone you'd be right at the top of the target range - perfectly healthy (as far as weight goes anyway) but not thin.

As a PP said, for health reasons it's perhaps more important to aim for a waist measurement of 32 inches or below.

I'm same height and weigh 8st.
I'm breastfeeding and am on the skinny side. Wear size 8-10. Depending on where I buy from! Next I'm probably a 6 😂
I feel fat from 9.5st upwards but as PP say it depends on your body type.
I am ectomorph and have no curves.

Well I'm 5'4" and 14.1 stone. I'm a size 16. I'm well into the obese category on the bmi chart. I need to lose 4 stone. I'm seeing the doc in 2 weeks time to kick start it off. And I exercise (running a half marathon on Sunday eek!) and I already gave up most alcohol so I'm at a loss!

All the weights and heights are interesting though!

Your BMI and your waist measurement useful. Find a BMI chart. If BMI 30 or over then your weight is too high and is having an effect on your health. It usually corresponds to about dress size 16. Sometimes 14 depending on your body shape.
If your BMI Or waist measurement high it's especially urgent to lose weight if you have a family history of diabetes or heart disease developing at a younger age (under 65) or if you also smoke.
if you are overweight ( BMI 25 - 30) then you are in the "watch it" zone. If your weight is stable, you do plenty of physical activity and have a good diet then I wouldn't worry too much. If your weight is increasing year on year, you don't eat well and don't run about much then you should go on a diet.

I'm 5'7 in the past year I've weighed between 9st 11 up to 10st 6. I wear clothes size 10-12 depending where I shop. Coats size 12, tops 10/12, trousers atm I'm squeezing into size 10. I currently weigh 9st 13 but carry a lot of weight on my thighs.

This is really interesting , I am the same height as you . Personally I feel amazing at 11 stone , 10 stone I look teeny , you can see all my bones , teeny , and it doesn't suit me . However I am one of those people who put weight on all over , until I hit 15 stone , then the rest lands on my middle , as it is currently !

Don't know if you have said how much you actually weigh at the moment or what your lowest weight has been in your adult past ? But the idea of getting your waist to 32 inches sounds like a sensible plan .

If it makes you feel any better I weigh 17 . 9 stone , my waist is currently 46 inches , without sucking it in or garroting it with the tape Grin

I am that height. I weigh 12 stone & am a size 12. I lift lots of heavy weights & cycle every day. I could be slimmer, absolutely. But my body fat is lower than average.

All bodies are different, OP.

I'm the same height as you. Have been everything from 9st to 14st. Would say 10st5 to 10st10 is my most comfortable weight. Below 10st and I look quite ill but then that is me.

I'm back in the weight loss journey too. Am 12st12 down from 13st5 in two weeks. Goal is 10st7 by then end of July. My reason is my health. At 42, I have far too much fat around the middle which is really not a good thing. Good luck ferriswheel

If there is one thing I have learned from the many height / weight / dress size threads on MN, it.is that there is massive variation. Some posters are my height but 2 stone heavier and wearing a smaller size than me. So I don't think you can take much from this sort of information.

I'm 5'6" and don't currently know what I weigh as my scales broke a while ago and I didn't replace them, because I tend to get unhealthily obsessed with the numbers, feel bad if I gain a pound or two etc. But I suspect I'm about 9.5 stone at the moment. I'm a pear shape so at this weight, my top half is quite thin, prominent collarbone, chest bones and ribs visible, small waist and then soft curvy hips and bum.

When I gain even a bit I quickly feel blobby and gross and cut calories and food groups in what is probably an inadvisable manner.

I'm 5 foot 5'6'' and currently inbetween 9.5 - 10 stone. I can't be arsed to actually work out exactly what I am - it's under 10. I look my best at 9-9.5 stone and am starting to feel a bit tubby around my waist. Currently I would say a 12 in shops like Oasis. Need to give up the wine and chocolate.

I knew when I saw your OP you would get lots of responses saying 'I'm 8st 2 1/4 lbs Blush and I know I look really podgy - but it's so hard to get rid of that last 1/4 lb!' so I'm posting for a bit of balance. Grin

I'm an inch shorter than you and weigh 11st 10lbs or so. It was bit less than that before Christmas. I'm mid 50s, perimenopausal and finding it hard to lose weight. I did lose a stone fairly easily a few years ago, but getting under 11 stone has proved a challenge. People seem genuinely surprised if I tell them what I weigh, so presumably I don't look that overweight. Size 12/14, depending on where I shop.

Having said that, I'm more active than I was (not difficult, I love sitting down and doing nothing!) and although my weight is still too high my figure has improved a lot with the exercise and I feel better for it.
