I'm 5' 6" and weigh 13 stone. I am overweight and need to loose weight.

I carry my weight on my bottom and thighs. My top is size 14 and bottom is 20.

I am trying to loose weight but I am struggling as I constantly think about food.

"Unless a real outlier, in terms of both size and density of bones, it's pretty unlikely this is the case. It's one of the variables allowed for in setting the range.

"Nope. BMI does not account for frame size. BMI is purely weight vs. height and doesn't account for the fact that people are 3 dimensional. "

Not BMI, BMI range.

The healthy range is from about 18.5 to 25. Having that range as 'healthy' accounts for a number of variables in build.

@thefitfatty,

I'm a large frame by all the measurements to do with skeleton. Broad shoulders, plank feet, bony broad wrists. Short fingers, mind.
~ 2 hrs of exercise a day, of which 45 min. aerobic.
I don't do resistance work (unless cycling, swimming, walking up stairs, shifting firewood counts). I have RSI in all joints so I'm not doing routine structured resistance exercise.
Cellulite plentiful to find, that's me! :). More muscle mass would be fine, I guess. I'd rather lose 5kg fat, instead, though, so I could run faster Grin.
Upper Arms are good, though, swimming keeps bingo wings at bay.
I sure as heck don't need another 10 lbs or 10% or whatever on my frame just because it's a broad frame.

Just thinking DD is about 5'5" and maybe 120 lbs. Got my broad shoulders & short fingers. She is svelte without being in any way scrawny.

I'm that height I'm 10 stone 1 at the moment I was 12 stone 10 last April, have been dieting down ever since( with holidays and Christmas off).

I was a solid size 16 at 12.10 ( my heaviest ever 13.12 probably pushing a 20).

Now I'm probably a big 10 but it's taking some time for me to accept this as I don't think you notice the difference as you see yourself ever day ( I still order/ try on 12s and 14s first).

I'm curvy somewhere between hour glass and pear. I still have my shelf ( pot belly). I'm aiming to get to 9.10 and then maintain it.

I have just been using s health to calorie count 1200/1400 a day plus run 3 times a week. It has been hard at times and slow going once I got under 11 stone.

Once I am there I will be doing 1600 cals in the week and 2/3 days at the weekend off and then monitor to see if it needs adjusting

I'm 5 foot 6 and weight about 11 stone 4 pounds. For me this is really overweight as I am wearing a size 16. I think I have a small frame and shouldn't be carrying anywhere near this amount of weight. Plus it's all on my stomach and I have skinny arms and legs. Trying to do something about it.

Yes that's right Trainspotting. The alternative "hard and fast" measure is 31 inches for a woman. It's not a solid cliff edge though - it's a J shaped curve. A 5 foot woman would probably be better off with a 27 inch waist but 29 is within the limits normally considered less at risk. You can also look at your waist to hip ratio which would ideally be below 0.8 but that can be down to the luck of the genetic draw.

hmmm... according to the wrist measurements I have a large frame.
I have a BMI of 21-22.
I have lots of wobbly flabby flubby soft squidgy fatty bits. I am about the right weight, but in no way would I be a better size if 10% heavier.
The idea that large frame gives me extra BMI allowance.. doesn't make any sense to me.

Obviously the wrist measurement is just one way to try to easily see your frame size, but hardly scientific. :) I also have size 9 feet and wide shoulders and hips.
As for wobbly bits, are you active? Do you life weights?
I'm 12 stone (healthy for a large frame) and I have no wobbly bits at all except for my c-section overhang (not much to be done there).

"Yesterday 06:39 onewhoassociates

Height to waist ratio should be 50% or under (i.e. your waist should be half or less of your height).

Your waist is essentially measured around your belly button.

Weight, intrinsically, isn't necessarily the important thing, but this ratio is a marker for all sorts of acquired diseases that you really can and should want to avoid."

I've read this about 15 times and don't get it. My waist is 29 inches. Are you saying as long as I am taller than 58 inches (4ft10) I am less likely to get said diseases? I dont think that's true, as very very few people are under 4ft10 Shock

I'm the same height and at 10stone I'm a12-14 and feel pudgy. I have a spare tyre at that weight so it's definitely a bit too fat for my height.
At 9stone I'm an 8-10 and feel good. And no spare tyre.

I'm 5ft 7 and about 11.7 currently, I've been between 10.7 and 13.7 over the last 10 years, three pregnancies later, I'm at the lower end now and hoping to get a bit closer to 10 stone. Im comfortably a size 12, sometimes 10. I think I'm pretty muscly though, and I don't have any boobs, or bum - I'm very straight up and down. If I gain weight, it distributes everywhere very evenly, so I'm just an enlarged or shrunken version of myself whether I gain or lose weight.

I'm the same height as you and weigh 9 stone and am a size 10. I was heavier two years ago (almost 13 stone) but just walked a lot and ate less. No fad diets. I've done them all, weight watchers, slimming world, cambridge, I've done them all but in the end the only thing that worked was eating less and walking more. For the first month I went no-where, avoided all invites at weekends (I know its really boring but it worked for me) and basically kids only went out with DH as food was too much of a distraction. Don't be too hard on yourself. Life is too short.

I'm the same height and have been lots of different weights. At 9 stone I was a size 8 and everyone said I looked too thin (I thought I looked fabulous!), at 10 stone and size 10 I look well, at 11 stone and a size 12 my bottom is looking ginormous and at 12 stone all hope is gone for me in all areas.

But it's a really personal thing - I have a friend that height who weighs 12 stone, has big boobs and great legs and nothing wobbles! She looks great. I have a more difficult figure and I think I need to be slimmer to make it work.

Report
MrsPMT · 18/01/2017 19:02

I'm same height and just under 11 stone. Slim for me is 10 stone and that's what I aim for. Below 10 stone I get bony looking, have broad shoulders. I think if you can get anywhere below 11 stone with healthy diet & exercise then you should feel good and look fine and healthy (and slimmer than most people tbh). Obviously if you still look overweight at 11 stone then you can re-assess.

I may be wrong but I kind of assume anyone who feels flabby at 10stone & this height still actually looks slim, but would prefer to be thinner, and does not in any way look overweight.

I'm 5'6 1/2 too. Smile I currently weigh 15 stone and am a size 24. The best motivation I have found so far is posting a photograph of myself (Side on and front.) on the fridge door and kitchen cupboard.

I am 5'9 and 9 stone 1. I would say medium build. I'm generally an 8/10. Have been a size 14 many years ago. Have to be careful what I eat as put on weight fairly easily.
Used to have big boobs but now have very small ones after two kids.

Hmm. Rough and ready screening tool. At a guess, I bet it's as effective as predicting Shoulder Dystocia in childbirth from the pregnant woman's shoe size- i.e. there's a grain of truth in a link between pelvis width and shoe size, but there will be women with tiny feet who can give birth naturally in a turnip-field and women with size nine feet who have narrow hips.

Apparently I have a small frame. Weeeeell. No. I have tiny hands and a pinhead on top of my shoulders. My frame, in terms of ribcage and hip-width is medium/large! If I doubted that, I'd just need to stand next to my genuinely small-framed mother of same height, who is a size 6-8 and has a bigger head and hands.
