To want a headboard

Eh days they are ugly but I . Feel like am going to slip off the bed, AIBU to think most people have one?

I have got one I love it! Felt like the pillows were falling down the back of the bed without it!

We've got a wooden bed so it's built in, but I'd have one if I had a divan as well, lose my pillows otherwise. I'm sure you can find ones that aren't ugly.

We need one too. But I don't like the idea of paying £100 for one... that's the same price as the mattress. We need a kingsize one if there are any going spare??

Definitely get one.
Plus if you have a fairly light (think pastels) coloured wall you can end up marking it when your hair / head brushes against the same place every night

Blink - ebay are quite good for stuff like bedroom furniture- lots of furniture outlet places have 'stores' on there

we have got a divan and needed a new headboard, couldnt find one i liked under £50 so i bought a cheap bedframe which i liked off ebay for £20 , spent £10 on metal paint to spruce it up and used the headboard off that, the scrap man had the rest of it

You can buy headboards that look like bedframe headboards. We've just bought one from Bensons for Beds. Can't remember the price at all, sorry.

Get one.. I don't think I've ever not had one. Current bed is wooden so build in but there are definitely a lot of nice ones out there

YANBU I felt the same - when I moved back to the UK and moved into my huse I had to buy all new furniture but the headboards were almost as expensive as the divan bed, so I thought I'd manage without one for a while till I could find something cheaper ... after a month of losing pillows almost every night, I went to our local British Heart Foundation Home store, they happened to be having a sale and there was a lovely wooden double headboard for only £10.

It was stained a really dark colour but I was desperate for anything at that point. I brought it home and put it on the bed and it worked fine, but looked ugly as it clashed with my other bedroom furniture, so when I had a free weekend I sanded it down, restained it in a complementary colour to my bedroom, added some fairylights twisted around it and you'd never know it was the same piece of furniture and it now looks identical to one that was in a high street furniture retailer for £90!

So I would suggest checking out your local charity/secondhand furniture shops and be openminded about what's available. It might be ugly in the shop but for the price of a little time and a coat of paint it can be totally transformed into whatever you want it to be.

I made my own (there are loads of great sources and tips online) and it was really easy to do (and I'm not a creative person) and looks amazing.

I used my old headboard and then bought a second one from a charity shop; I attached it to the wall directly above the bed as opposed to on the bed and I got some beautiful fabric on sale in Dunelm Mill. I borrowed a stapler gun and the padding was cheap enough.

I thoroughly enjoyed the process too as it happens. This was a couple of years ago and it still looks good.

Got my kingsize one from eBay for £25 with free delivery.
I think eBay or charity shop should are the way to go

Had to get a headboard to stop losing the pillows but also to prevent greasy head marks on the wall from DHs greasy head hair products.

We didn't have one (divan bed) for 17 years. Our bedroom looked horrid and studenty. Bed died, we bought lovely new wooden bed with headboard, bedroom transformed. Yay! Definitely do it!

I've always had a headboard. Feels weird without one. Plus it can be very kinky being tied up to it.........

Is there anything you can hang on the wall? We have a low back to our bed but end up with patches on the paint where heads a4e in regular contact.

Definitely EBay , I've had three headboards from EBay , all under £50 with free quick delivery. I also messaged them before I ordered and got samples of the materials / colour .
I don't know how the stores can justify the exorbitant prices they charge.
I have also covered a headboard for my daughter , it cost me way more than the cost of a EBay new one.

Have made my own headboards for the last 2 beds.

Get a piece of mdf cut to the precise size that you want by local timber merchant (less than £5). Buy foam online or from somewhere like Dunelm (about £20-£30 depending on how big you want it), wadding (online) and then fabric. I had a staple gun, but I think they're about £5 from places like The Range / Hobbycraft etc.

Beauty is that you can have any fabric you like - last time I had a beautiful patterned fabric, got enough to make cushions for the bed too - looked very styled. Loved it. This time, I've got fabric to match the upholstered bed, probably £50-60 each time.

Aside from the practical aspects of pillows slipping off and nowhere to lean whilst reading, I've always thought a divan without a headboard looks like a student bed. It looks cheap and unfinished.

You can make really unusual headboards (look at pinterest) if you don't like the styles of ones in the shops.

I've never not had a headboard, I think it finishes the look.

My current one I had made (to match the bedding and curtains) where I used to work. Its now got a fleece blanket on it, but still struggling to find fabric in the same colour.

For DS's bed I get a very cheap basic padded headboard from a bedshop (think Dreams) and have re-covered it twice.. you just need a staple gun.
