Excuse the "ladbible" like DP sent me BUT these new charges mean we will struggle to own a car which is a necessity for work for us !! Surely we won't be the only one's to suffer ? The government are greedy fucker's for doing this Angry

I'm not 100% sure but it says there that you aren't likely to be affected unless you are registering a new car after April 1st.

mlr1uk · 15/01/2017 20:44

I read this last week. It's only brand new cars registered this year. Otherwise your car tax will stay as it currently is

Rainmaker1 · 15/01/2017 21:00

As said by PP it only affects new cars and the majority will be going from none/low tax to £140/year. £140/year is such a small percentage of the overall cost of car ownership that it really shouldn't be any concern. In addition, if you can afford a brand new car then you can afford to pay £140/year to tax it. If you can't afford £140/year then you have now business owning a car.

Rosieposy4 · 15/01/2017 21:06

It is probably better if you read your own link before frothing. As others have said it only effects new cars first registered on or after 1/4/17.
If the difference between 20 and 140 pounds a year is a deal breaker then buy a second or third or fourth hand car like most of us.

Tbh it's more or less just going back to what it was not so long ago. The zero tax thin was just another political sweetener
