NC to be anon, but I just don't think this is right at all. I kind of want to tip off someone about this theft, but I know if she gets caught she will be in a bigger mess.

It's more a WWYD?

OP posts:

And of course the electric company will say that, did you know if you don't brush your teeth the tooth fairy won't take your teeth? Also don't chant bloody Mary in a bathroom or an angry spirit will come for you! If anything, when doing whatever they do there's a chance of a shock to the person doing it.

FizzBombBathTime · 13/01/2017 13:20

OP if you were so concerned about their children why didn't you put a fiver on their key?

Because you're a busy body, that's why.

Hope you sleep well tonight op Biscuit

SheldonCRules · 13/01/2017 13:20

Nasty? Because they reported someone for stealing?

What a wharped world, so it's ok to commit crimes and instead judge the person reporting as jealous and nasty.

I wonder how many of those who wouldn't report wouldn't bat an eyelid if someone stole from them or hurt them.

SeahorsesSwim · 13/01/2017 13:22

Yanbu to be concerned about their safety and others living nearby. Electric and gas are very dangerous.

CustardLover · 13/01/2017 13:24

Yuck, this thread leaves a nasty taste in my mouth. And it makes me sad that the fat cats have won- we really do blame each other and not them for struggling families.

Can you imagine being desuenough for food or heat or light for your family that you steal it sheldon?

Manumission · 13/01/2017 13:26

^desperate enough

HorridHenryrule · 13/01/2017 13:28

Sheldon I will have to raise my hand on that question. I haven't got it in me to tattle tale on someone who is struggling. He also stole from me for 8 months and even then I didn't feel the need to report him. He was old and it was only a van I got it off him eventually. I don't go out of my way to get revenge on others. Its not in my makeup its not who I am. I have also struggled with money in the past and paying bills. Its not my business they will get caught eventually.

tootsietoo · 13/01/2017 13:28

I had a tenant who did this. The set fire to the meter cupboard, needed a new meter. I don't know if anyone got hurt, I only found out a few days later.

Purely from a safety point of view, I would be concerned if I lived next door so yes, I possibly would report it if I was the direct next door neighbour.

HorridHenryrule · 13/01/2017 13:30

I did hear he was fiddling the electric I forgot to add that to last post.

Coralfish · 13/01/2017 13:31

It is very very dangerous to tamper with a meter because it is directly connected to the mains. Not as dangerous as messing with a gas meter, but there is still a serious risk of fire if the mains has not been reconnected properly.

princessmouldilocks · 13/01/2017 13:33

But we are not talking about someone attacking someone
we're talking about a fellow human being struggling. And yes love custard that's how they like us otherwise we might stand up for ourselves and over throw them.most of them don't even have to pay bills for electric and gas and water and flipping chatterbox license.

HorridHenryrule · 13/01/2017 13:33

You know what is funny he is a experienced and qualified electrician. He fucked about and never thought about his future. Now he's old he is struggling.

JeanAndTonic · 13/01/2017 13:35

I wouldn't report her at the moment. You may think that she's not penniless but you don't know what her money has been spent on. It's a new year so she may have thought that buying her children Christmas presents was more important at the time and now she doesn't have enough money to heat the house. I certainly wouldn't put her in the position whereby she might get fucked because she doesn't have enough cash to give the basic standard to her children - heating, food etc. and although I don't advocate stealing, would you really want to see her and her children without the basic essentials? Of course, if you know for a fact that she's found a way to fuck the system, that she has the money but doesn't want to spend it, then that's different but I certainly wouldn't want to know that I'd got on my high horse 'just because'. Your call. Are you able to help her? I don't mean only financially but also by putting her in touch with the CAB or likewise? (I'm not in the U.K. so not sure on which route you should take).

Aki23 · 13/01/2017 13:37

theft

EmeraldScorn · 13/01/2017 13:38

If someone is having to illegally gain access to electricity it's because they have no means to pay for it.

Some of you on here would do well to jump down from your high horses with your holier than thou moralistic garbage; It might be "morally wrong" to steal, but no where near as morally wrong as it would be to report someone who clearly needs a bit of a helping hand.

I find it disgusting that ANYONE would even contemplate reporting it, whatever happened to minding your own bloody business?

Don't be trying to dress it up as a safety concern either; If you go to the unkind extremes of kicking somebody when they're already down, then obviously your moral compass is screwed.

I hope if any of you ever find yourselves in such a degrading and heartbreaking situation where you can't afford electricity that some fucking self righteous busybody doesn't be making life even harder for you.

I despair of the sneering superiority from people like you OP!

nixnjj · 13/01/2017 13:38

Wish I had the lack of morals to,do this. Fire in living room goes on 5 minutes before son gets up and he gets dressed in front of it. Goes off as soon as he leaves for school. Can't afford to put on central heating full stop. Also sit with no lights, tv etc when he's at school. We eat dinner together if he wants a proper meal after school but other than that I don't bother to eat. I know how much I can afford to put on my meters each week. Xmas holidays killed me as he was at home 24/7. He's managed to loose a trainer at school so accepts he will have to sell some of his Xmas presents to get new ones, his choice if he wants cheap ones and have to be teased at school or nice ones so he can keep up with his mates. And no I don't have a flat screen TV mobile phone or sky. Only keep Internet as he needs it for school work. Living like this is doing wonders for my mental health. Wish people who reckons life on benefits/minimum wage is all fun and games and a matter of choice would try it for a month

PickAChew · 13/01/2017 13:39

Desperate or not, it's really bloody dangerous.

HorridHenryrule · 13/01/2017 13:40

The Op waited for the worst cold day to come to report most probably. That's the type of person she is only worried about herself. She's not looking at the bigger picture.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 13/01/2017 13:40

Maybe if they cut down on luxuries such as Sky TV, mobile phones they might be able to afford it eh?

I can't tell if that was satire or sincere. On the off chance it was sincere. I'll bite.

On benefits. (ill health). Don't have sky tv. Also don't have a landline. I do have a mobile phone as it's handy for when I have to call the ambulance because my lungs wont behave. Are mobile phones still seen as a luxury in 2017? Confused
P.s it's a battered old Nokia that my dad bought me not a snazzy iphone.

I still wouldn't steal. Mainly on principle. Mainly because I've got the type of luck where I'd get caught in an instant and I don't think I'd do well in prison Grin .

I'd leave well alone OP. Think "not my circus not my monkeys". If it's prepayment meters they'll get caught in the end anyway.

HorridHenryrule · 13/01/2017 13:42

If she's got the balls to report then she should have the balls to tell her she reported. I bet you she will sit back and watch the fuckery go on with her neighbour or friend.

hibouhibou · 13/01/2017 13:44

Stop sticking your nose in a get a hobby to keep your mind off it OP.

You sound like a loser.
