NC to be anon, but I just don't think this is right at all. I kind of want to tip off someone about this theft, but I know if she gets caught she will be in a bigger mess.

It's more a WWYD?

OP posts:
Buzzalot · 13/01/2017 12:53

Tell them to buy hacked meter keys instead like most of us do Wink

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 13/01/2017 12:54

Christ get off the moral high horse

ilovesooty · 13/01/2017 12:56

Well that helped the OP to make a decision quickly...

Trifleorbust · 13/01/2017 12:57

Jesus, how spiteful - how can you look at yourself having reported someone when you know they are struggling?

shovetheholly · 13/01/2017 12:58

And, in our next story, OP demands that Sainos cut off the hand of a single mum who stole a loaf of bread to feed her kids, before reporting a homeless person to the police for accepting a cup of coffee from a passer by that might have been too hot for health and safety.

LoupGarou · 13/01/2017 13:00

One of my best friends when I was little had parents of the worst kind, they fiddlefiddles their meter and a neighbour reported them, but it was my friend who suffered, no hot water for washing, couldn't clean her clothes for school etc etc - she got horribly bullied and she s the one who suffered for someone reporting her parents. They didn't care, just kept on drinking. Sad

lovelearning · 13/01/2017 13:00

I kind of want to tip off someone about this theft, but I know if she gets caught she will be in a bigger mess

And yet you went ahead and did it

Biscuit

Couldn't live with myself if something bad happened with the DC

Don't try to use that as a justification

If you were that concerned, you wouldn't be reporting your neighbour

You would be warning her of the danger of her actions

MarsBarsAreShrinking · 13/01/2017 13:01

I would mind my own business and be thankful that I wasn't in such a desperate situation.

MarsBarsAreShrinking · 13/01/2017 13:02

Maybe if they cut down on luxuries such as Sky TV, mobile phones they might be able to afford it eh?

Please tell me this is not serious?

Bluntness100 · 13/01/2017 13:02

I couldn't do this, no. Knowing that someone needs it and knowing they will be in a bigger mess if they get caught, I couldn't do it to someone. 😞

TheFutureMrsB · 13/01/2017 13:03

I wouldn't bother reporting, they obviously need to do it.

If it's any consolation op the meter still racks up the debt and when they stop bypassing the electric they will have to pay it back to be able to use it. Surely they will have a meter reading at some point so they will either get caught that way or will have to sort it out beforehand.

PinkBunnyOnesieOnOrder · 13/01/2017 13:03

Your decision has nothing to do with safety. You don't know how they've done it is unsafe. Own your decision to report them, you're doing it because they're getting something for nothing & it's pissing you off.

WheresMaHairyToe · 13/01/2017 13:06

Bravo they are still more expensive. I put £100 a time on mine, because that gets a preferential rate, but if you're putting £5/ £10 on, the rate is dearer.

StealthPolarBear · 13/01/2017 13:06

Presumably the people who won't report because they understand that they are struggling offer to take on the bills themselves?

HorridHenryrule · 13/01/2017 13:07

Her neighbour is struggling and shes jealous. Like a PP said she will have to repay it eventually you don't really get something for nothing.

HorridHenryrule · 13/01/2017 13:08

Sorry and *you're jealous.

viques · 13/01/2017 13:09

Please report it. Hacking a meter is extremely dangerous. My ndn did it and the electricity people who came to remedy it said we were lucky both houses had not gone up in flames.

WaitrosePigeon · 13/01/2017 13:10

The subtext is really "I have to struggle so should you" isn't it? Like you really give a small fuck about the electricity company

Bingo!

Manumission · 13/01/2017 13:11

Is think someone would have to be desperate to do that.

Mashkeyboard · 13/01/2017 13:11

Nc for obvious reasons.

I did it, a few years ago. Single parent, on benefits, 2 dc, one of whom was really poorly. We had a payg electric meter, and were using £70 a week, and that was keeping the house at about 12°.

A friend bypassed the meter for me, I put £20 a week onto it to stop the electric company realising, and we were warm and had money for food.
I'm not happy that I did it, but more annoyed that I was in that situation where I felt I had no choice. And, if I was in the same situation now, I'd do it again.

princessmouldilocks · 13/01/2017 13:12

Shove the holly, lol!
Help her, your on the net, look up ways to help, cab, council. If you are genuinely concerned try to help. If not your looking for someone to tell you it's ok to be a bit of a cow. It's cold outside, yes we all struggle, particularly after Xmas. And to the post who thinks pre pay meters have changed, no they have certainly not. Charged for having the meter? It's ridiculous but true.

MrsHathaway · 13/01/2017 13:12

Prepay meters are not more expensive than standard ones. Maybe 10rs ago but they changed the law didn't they?

I have a feeling the energy companies can't set higher rates for prepay meters any more ... but they do effectively do so by making it impossible for prepay customers to access their special deals. Now, one of the first things you do when you're trying to save money is to make sure you're on the very best possible energy deal.

It's a bit like saying prepay customers pay the basic rate, but naice direct debit customers pay the reduced rate. Semantics but ends up with PREPAY CUSTOMERS PAYING MORE. Legal but shouldn't be.

myoriginal3 · 13/01/2017 13:16

You're being a bit nasty.

Manumission · 13/01/2017 13:17

The scrounger-bashing threads are always full of angry, frothy people on less than £20k too.

I guess it's what the politicians rely on but I just don't get it.

Why beat the shit of people in the same boat as you?

UnbornMortificado · 13/01/2017 13:17

It's electricity not luxury items. If you know her well enough to know her circumstances and what she is doing you should know her well enough to help.

I don't even mean financial help but pointing her to cab who can in some circumstances offer pre-payment one of grants.
