To ask what car are you driving if you have 3 DC

Who all use carseats?

I've just found out I'm pregnant Shock, still in a bit of a shock actually.
Already have 2DC, youngest is only 18months. Anyway amongst other things i realised we probably will need a new car.
What car do you have that works well with 2young DC + baby and has space for buggies etc?

DD drives Mercedes vanio. With same configuration but over two rows so she can climb in to arrange children. I have driven it when she was post c- section butdo prefer my berlingo.

xyzandabc · 13/01/2017 20:15

In our verso we put the eldest in the middle as I wanted the infant carrier to have an ISO fix base. Now they are older 4,7,9 we have 3 high back boosters, eldest is still in the middle and always has been as she separates the younger two who would poke, prod and annoy each other if sat together.

WanderingTrolley1 · 13/01/2017 20:15

BMW 7-seater X5.

oblada · 13/01/2017 20:17

Thought about sticking with slim child seats etc but I had taken a lot time to research the child seats and got some cybex which are fab as front facing but safer than a lot of 'late rear facing' (has a bumper type of thing in front of child, very easy to set up, very popular style in france and germany) but they are necessarily quite 'bulky'. Also as we have my parents and MIL coming from abroad regularly we need the flexibility etc.

MazDazzle · 13/01/2017 20:21

Landrover discovery-its the only car in my opinion that is worth it. We have 3 car seats across the back comfortably we have a 4,3 and 1yo. The boot space is huge we get 3 buggies and a weeks shop and still have a normal sized boot room left in there.

this

AND there's an additional 2 pop up seats in the back that comfortably seat adults.

I love my Discovery. She's a part of our family Grin. Great road trip car too. We've driven her the length of the country (with luggage in the boot!).

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 13/01/2017 20:22

Mazda 6 when they were all using car seats, don't put baby in the middle -
Too hard to get it in and out

SEsofty · 13/01/2017 20:28

Ford smax.brilliant

brexitschmexit · 13/01/2017 20:35

Ford S Max. Love it. Has three proper sized seats in the back, all with isofix. Also 2 extra seats in boot. If not using extra seats the boot is huge. Even with extra seats in use you can fit an umbrella buggy and a couple
Of bags in the boot. We have 2 maxi cosi ferofix (high back boosters using car seat belts) and 1 maxi cosi priorifix. Would definitely recommend the S max as its a bit of a tardis, doesn't look or feel huge to drive but is really spacious for a family of 5.

JJBlinks · 13/01/2017 20:50

Peugeot 5008.

Was terrified of driving a "big car" and referred to it as the beast but now I love it. I have 3 under 6 and can fit all car seats across the back. There is plenty of room in the boot for double pushchair and shopping. Really handy to have the extra 2 seats in the boot. You can pack it full which is handy when off on holiday. I actually find it easy to park (never thought I'd say that Grin). Ours have rear parking sensors which helps parking. We got one second hand from a dealer and it has been fab.

Good luck on choosing and with your third. Having 3 is chaotic but great fun Smile

brexitschmexit · 13/01/2017 21:25

Ps congrats! 3 really is the magic number SmileFlowers

MrsBobDylan · 13/01/2017 21:33

Doing a shout out for the Vauxhall Zafira. We permanently use one of the fold down seats in the boot for one of my DC because his autism means he's a nightmare when sat close to other DC. Lots of space, all the seats fold flat so fab for big tip runs and upholstery is tough and can withstand my kids' ruinous behaviour.

DeanTavalouris · 13/01/2017 21:33

We've managed with a ford focus. Our daughter was 2.5 when our twins were born and there was no way we could afford a new car. She had to go in the front with the air bag off until they were out of the infant seats and now they all fit across the back fine. The boot's big enough for a tandem double pushchair and shopping or whatever. Wasn't ideal to start with but it's fine now Smile

Riversiderunner · 13/01/2017 21:34

Normal estate car. No need for a tank at all - look down on women who feel the need for a show-off Chelsea tractor.

MrsBobDylan · 13/01/2017 21:35

Oh yes, and I agree with pp, 3 kids is much more fun!

MrGrumpy01 · 13/01/2017 21:35

SMax here too. 2 hbb's and a baby carrier on base in an edge seat. (was allowed at the time, but obviously check any bases with props before using)

Big boot was a bonus.

MrGrumpy01 · 13/01/2017 21:38

Well we're ok then because dh drives it.

It has actually been really useful having the smax as my mil can transfer into the car a lot more easily with it being that little bit higher. Though I am sure dh is judged when he parks up in the blue badge spaces in the car (obviously with her in there too)

GoodyGoodyGumdrops · 13/01/2017 22:00

Ford Galaxy. It's been a brilliant workhorse of a car. Nothing glamorous or 'Chelsea' about it (though it would look much nicer if I actually washed and vacuumed it regularly!) but has served us well for 10y so far, and still going strong.

7 adult seats in the car at all times, 5 of them fully adjustable. Each seat can fold flat into the floor, giving masses of boot space. Even with all seats up we can fit buggy plus a day's worth of coats, rucksacks, walking boots etc in the boot.

The one thing that would make it perfect would be sliding doors for the passengers.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 13/01/2017 22:22

A Zafira. Isn't everyone? Grin

I'd like a Qashqai+2 though.

KeepCalm · 13/01/2017 23:04

Ford galaxy

FranHastings · 13/01/2017 23:08

Zafira and I don't like it. Kids are squashed due to DD3's massive car seat and I'm too worried about someone rear ending me to put them in the boot. Can't switch the air bags off, or I'd put one of them there. Every long journey is a nightmare of them arguing because they haven't got enough room. Can't wait to change it. God knows when that will be.

Macarena1990 · 13/01/2017 23:12

Fiat 500 Grin

KeepCalm · 13/01/2017 23:17

Congrats btw. Three really is lovely Smile

We used to have Grand scenic. Freaking nightmare of a car.

We changed out for Galaxy and it's been fabulous.

All 7 seats are adult sized which is great for PIL visits and ferrying round all the friends.

Our kids are 8,10 & 13 now and it's coped with business use, carting round dog, buggies, roof box etc

A pleasure to drive and no 'Chelsea tractor' about it.

SirRodneyEffing · 13/01/2017 23:31

If they still made the xsara piccasso I would have loved another one. Fugly, but so practical.

Currently have a VW Sharan, I love the sliding rear doors which makes it easier getting kids out in tight parking spaces. It easily fits 3 car seats across the centre row.

Had a zafira in the past and hated it. It. Would only fit two car seats in centre row, back seats were far too close to the rear window. The kids in the back row would not have survived a rear end shunt in that. Also front passenger airbag can't be switched off.

dontpullyourbrotherswilly · 14/01/2017 21:07

Riverside
Although technically you'd be looking up Hmm

DangerousBeanz · 14/01/2017 21:15
