To ask what car are you driving if you have 3 DC

Who all use carseats?

I've just found out I'm pregnant Shock, still in a bit of a shock actually.
Already have 2DC, youngest is only 18months. Anyway amongst other things i realised we probably will need a new car.
What car do you have that works well with 2young DC + baby and has space for buggies etc?

If you plan on 2nd hand car Honda srv is fab don't make them any more but three full sized seats in back and front only six seater around ( yes two next to the driver !)

Dadbot3000 · 12/01/2017 20:51

All 4 wheel drives look big, but boot space generally no bigger than normal car. Also v expensive to buy, run and tax.

We have a 2011 Smax comfortable with baby, rear facing 3yo and high backed booster 4yo all in Isofix on middle row. Decent boot plus option to take 2 more on back row if needed.

Alhambra or Galaxy have bigger boot, but much more van-like and pricier.

PurpleMcPants · 12/01/2017 20:53

The scenic has 3 full size, independently movable seats in the back with isofix on each. I used to have the baby on an outside seat so I didn't have to reach over so far with the baby or car seat.

littlepeas · 12/01/2017 20:56

Xc90 - you can get 3 across the middle row, boot is huge, nice to drive, very safe.

GinAndPhonics · 12/01/2017 20:56

We have 3 dc (1, 3 and 5) and a Viano and can comfortably fit 3 car seats in a row with buckets of room to spare. You can also have the back seats facing each other, which is how we've set ours up.
It's brilliant space-wise (like a van with seating - we often have a big dog crate, buggy and two bikes in the back) but have had quite a few trips to the mechanic with it and as it's a Mercedes, these tend to be quite expensive!

thecomputersaysno · 12/01/2017 21:00

Thanks a lot everyone!
I didn't even know about built in boosters before!

Ginand
Doesn't it feel too much like a van to drive and hard to park?
I like idea of space though and seats facing each other as I could then easily sit at the back with kids when necessary.

Ford S-Max, the rear seats can be moved back and forth so they are staggered if that makes sense? Imagine the two outside seats sitting further forward (or back) from the middle.
It has a humongous boot which also has two fold flat seats.

SparklyFuckingBusinessFairy · 12/01/2017 21:02

Brother has a q7, they love it. Congratulations :)

dontpokethebear · 12/01/2017 21:03

Should have said, the S-max has 3 full size seats, with isofix. But you can only have 2 bases (type with the leg).

NeedsAsockamnesty · 12/01/2017 21:05

Grand senic,

2 extended rear facing seats and one rear facing infant carrier across the Middle seat row.

In the boot (with one of the additional seats up) a zeta vooom double buggy and a Stokke xplory with carry cot along with two large tesco can an bags full of books a very full large changing bag and a overnight bag

Francinelle01 · 12/01/2017 21:06

We have S-Max with 3 seats in the back with isofix. 2 seats in the boot as well if needed. There are bigger vehicles but we didn't want something too tank like.

Poosnu · 12/01/2017 21:08

Alhambra. We love it, especially the sliding doors.

GinAndPhonics · 12/01/2017 21:33

Um... well, the truth is that I only learnt to drive last year (in my mid-thirties!) and i'm still too chicken-shit to drive it myself Blush. Instead, I cram the dc into the back of my Golf when i have to, in 3 carefully chosen (by DH) car seats - it can be done!

So, DH says it is a bit like driving a van but we do have the slightly longer version. Parking isn't too bad but takes some getting used to and you can't park in just any space in a car park, as your arse will usually be hanging out the back of it Grin but he thinks it's worth it for the space.

Catlady1976 · 12/01/2017 21:36

We have an Citroen Picasso.

thecomputersaysno · 13/01/2017 19:56

Thanks Ginand
I'm a bit worried it's not going to be ideal for me to do school run, Tesco etc

No doubt it would be a great road trip car though

Still would live the xc90!

We have DC3 on the way and bought a Kia Carens. It's a 7-seater, but we plan to keep the seats down in the boot (so that we have enough space for all the crap) and the 3 kids across the back. 4yo in high back booster in the middle, 2yo in rear-facing isofix, and baby in, well, baby seat!

byhec · 13/01/2017 20:09

We have a toyota verso. Mine are currently 2, 4 and 7, at one point we had 3 different stage seats.

Chattymummyhere · 13/01/2017 20:09

We have a 5 seater Ford C-Max

Seats are; behind driver cosatto 1-2-3, middle graco highback booster, behind passenger graco infant carrier on belted safety base.

Children's ages are 7 (8 this year), just turned 5 and 1 in a few months.

Sparklycurtainpole · 13/01/2017 20:11

We bought a seating system which fits over our existing back seat and converts it to a three infant/child seat system. I've got a 5 year old, a three year old and a newborn. System costs quite a bit but fits pretty much any standard size car. They do a version which converts to 4 infant seats too. It's absolutely briliant. Only drawback is that the infant seat is permanently fixed so you can't take it in and out of the car like a normal infant seat.

daddyorscience · 13/01/2017 20:11

I hired a Hyundai i800 for 3 weeks. Loved it so much its made my "I want one" list. 9 seats, HUGE boot, sliding doors, 2.5td auto. Bigger than our schools minibus, but an absolute beauty to drive. It doesn't drive like a minibus at all. The kids faces when I pulled up were a picture.

Trumpton · 13/01/2017 20:12

I have a Berlingo . Lovely sliding rear doors . DGS ( 6.5) sits forward facing . DGD (4.5) sits in centre rear facing . DGD 2 ( 4 months ) is rear facing in car seat. Works for us.

We stuck with our golf for ages - it was a big squeeze, managed to get 3 car seats across the back but one was just a high backed booster.

Last month we upgraded to a touran- love it. Kids now 5,3,16m. The middle row has 3 full sized seats so easy to get 3 car seats along there. Plus 2 extra third row seats or a massive boot.

oblada · 13/01/2017 20:12

Got a ford galaxy and a Citroën berlingo. Ford galaxy is the only 7 seaters with folding seats at the back that are big enough for adults (had a Renault grand scenic before) it's fab but it's big so OH drives it and it's otherwise what we use for holidays etc Citroën berlingo is my new one. A van in effect but got space for 3 kids at back. And van kind of doors (sliding) which is fab!! It is actually a 7 seater as well if needed. Both have got good mpg which is important to me. Landrover mpg is appalling lol! Considered the Peugeot 308 SW too which has 3 isofix at the back and is v safe.

Sparklycurtainpole · 13/01/2017 20:13

multimac.co.uk/home

This is the system we've got. It's fab.
