Does anyone remember this series? It was shown in the 90's on BBC when I was a child.
It tackles some very adult (and topical) issues in a suitable way for children and is dramatic and funny. My girls got it for xmas and they are gripped!

Idefix · 11/01/2017 17:39

Oh I used to love watching this. Although when going through rounds of clomid it used to reduce me to a blubbering wreck...

londonrach · 11/01/2017 17:42

Yanbu. Loved mysterious cities of gold too! Best tv programmes in the 80s and 90s. m.youtube.com/watch?v=XtyXnr5XV_A

It's on the TV every weekend here in Ireland. Someone probably posted already but it will be on the rte player. RTE is the national broadcaster if you google it.

I love it it's still good.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 11/01/2017 17:47

NassauBeach · 11/01/2017 17:49

London - my all time favourite cartoon!! I was obsessed with it! Remember all the characters names and the music still. No one ever remembers this so glad to meet a fellow fan Smile

I wanted to call my first born Esteban... I didn't Confused

londonrach · 11/01/2017 17:51

Nassau..i have the box set!!!!!!

londonrach · 11/01/2017 17:53

It was a magical series and gave me a love of history and archaeology. That theme tune!!!

NassauBeach · 11/01/2017 17:56

Aaaaa..aa aa aa aaa....
Love it. That's it. I'm getting the box set!! Also made it my childhood dream to become an archaeologist and I still have a major interest in ancient history and find it all v exciting. Definitely also influenced by this cartoon similar to previous poster whose interest in the environment was encouraged by the Animals of Farthing Wood (which I also loved).

SnatchedPencil · 11/01/2017 17:59

It was fucking amazing and should definitely be brought back. Very sad at times, I remember Otis the Aardvark (I think it was him - one of the puppet things anyway) introducing it with the phrase "I wonder who is going to snuff it this week."

mogloveseggs · 11/01/2017 18:01

Loved all these! Does anyone remember the around the world in 80 days cartoon?

WeeWaspie · 11/01/2017 18:02

Yes to the animals of farthing wood and the weird crush on fox.

I loved Bucky O'Hare too. Anyone else remember that?

londonrach · 11/01/2017 18:02

Yes mog and bella and seb and there was a dog one looking for his home. The mystery cities still my fav!!

WilliamHerschel · 11/01/2017 18:07

I loved The Animals of Farthing Wood, The Demon Headmaster and The Queen's Nose.

WeeWaspie, Bucky O Hare sounds familiar but I can't think what it is.

Do they make children's television as good as that anymore? I don't mind (ok I like Blush) The Dumping Ground, especially the earlier series', but nothing else seems that good.

NassauBeach · 11/01/2017 18:07

Oh yes around the world in 80 days! Haven't thought of that in years! And I had a crush on the lion in that. But main crush was Ulysses in Ulysses 31 and DH looks like him too Grin

HollyBrown · 11/01/2017 18:08

I have the entire series on DVD. It. Is. AMAZING.

Best present ever. I love fox ❤️

Papercaper · 11/01/2017 18:12

God yes! Loved The Queen's Nose too with the two sisters wasn't it - Melody and Harmony? There was a kaleidoscope pattern at the beginning I remember, really cool.

HollyBrown · 11/01/2017 18:12

What I really want need now is the Poddington Peas! Nobody remembers them...

londonrach · 11/01/2017 18:14

LOVED Animals of Farthing Wood! I can still remember the music! And the sticker magazine that I got weekly...or was it monthly? Loved it! Grin

Papercaper · 11/01/2017 18:19

I remember Poddington Peas! My grandad had it on video and I used to watch it at his house, he also had several of the books which were shaped like plant pot. The peas all had names like Hap-Pea, Sweet Pea and Zip-Pea and there were two baddiesGrin. Loved it!
