Does anyone remember this series? It was shown in the 90's on BBC when I was a child.
It tackles some very adult (and topical) issues in a suitable way for children and is dramatic and funny. My girls got it for xmas and they are gripped!

No way! I remember this so well, and the magazines. I've told my girls about it but never thought they did it on DVD
scurries off to purchase on amazon

Does anyone remember 5 children and It, on BBC in the early 90's too? Used to watch this with my brother and couldn't remember what it was called for years.

Don't want to hi-jack, and really showing my age here, but for a moment I thought you were referring to "Pogles wood" (Am I the only one here old enough to remember the squirrel that spoke gibberish?)

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pogles'_Wood

PinkSnowAndStars · 11/01/2017 14:27

I liked Noah's Island on CBBC too. I think it was made by the same people that made animals of farthing wood

Myfanwyprice · 11/01/2017 14:29

regret there was a video game?!? I feel cheated!!

HairsprayBabe · 11/01/2017 14:30

I loved this show, it sparked a lifelong interest in environmentalism. I now work in environmental protection so it just shows how influential programmes like this are on young minds!

HateSummer · 11/01/2017 14:31

Omg I remember Animals of Farthing Wood. I had a weird cartoon crush on Fox...Confused. I loved the theme tune too Grin

ALLthedinosaurs · 11/01/2017 14:33

Just watched the first episode and Toad was buried alive within 2 minutes (complete with headstonelike rock)Shock

But he didn't die, phew. "I'm still 'ere!" Grin
And Adder is a dick. I'm sure I remember her tail being ripped off in one episode...

Cuppaand2biscuits · 11/01/2017 14:36

Ahh you are my generation! Greenclaws anyone? Alana? The girl from tomorrow. Makes me feel cosy just thinking about it.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 11/01/2017 14:36

I had the animals of farthing wood on dvd for xmas! I had the Maid Marian dads last year, and I have every episode of thundercats, too.

I would like to pretend my dc watch them, but they don't like them at all and I have to watch them on my own.

[should have name changed for this!]

PurpleDaisies · 11/01/2017 14:36

Oh yes-all of those cuppa! I loved the girl from tomorrow.

IRegretNothing · 11/01/2017 14:40

This is level one myfanwy you had to shepherd the seals to safety, eliminate hot air balloons and repair the ozone layer with your super duper spaceship

I'm going to order this from amazon on payday! So pleased it's available.

If there are "spoilers" on here I'll head off since I haven't seen it in so long I've forgotten most of the plot. Great thread though!

GerundTheBehemoth · 11/01/2017 14:49

I loved the Farthing Wood books. Looking back they were amazingly sexist - every important animal was male except for Vixen. They sex-changed Adder and Weasel, maybe some others, for the cartoon.

OrangeFluff · 11/01/2017 14:51

Oh I had the Captain Planet game too! The water level was really hard! And I vaguely remember climbing up lots of vines??? or something in the heart level.

Loved Maid Marion, Farthing Woods and ThunderCats. I also remember Grotbags, ooo and Going Live with Philip Schofield and Gordon the Gopher. The 90s had all the best kids shows!

HairsprayBabe · 11/01/2017 14:57

It just made me so sad when the developers built over the poor animals homes Sad
I realise now it is a lot more complex than that but I still feel like I am fighting for something important!

Lots of important messages about tolerance and working together, they don't make 'em like this any more!

And to think I was only 4 when it first came out! I must have been a very irritating child Grin

bookwormnerd · 11/01/2017 14:58

I can remember being in tears when bold died. We collected the magazines and i adored the books. They were the books to give me a love of reading

ALLthedinosaurs · 11/01/2017 15:00

Cuppa I LOVED Greenclaws. It was my favourite for a while Grin

ExhaustedPigeon · 11/01/2017 15:07

I loved greenclaws, maid Marion, thunder cats and animals of farthing wood. Some youtubing will be happening this afternoon

HairsprayBabe · 11/01/2017 15:10

Does anyone else remember Jacqueline Hyde a schoolgirl that turned into a hairy monster occasionally after an accident in chemistry class?

HairsprayBabe · 11/01/2017 15:11

I just googled it apparently it was called "Julia Jekyll and Harriet Hyde" oops Blush

IRegretNothing · 11/01/2017 15:25

I liked that one Hairspray
Bit later but I always found My Parents are Aliens really funny.

I loved the Animals of Farthing Wood! It definitely made me cry though, I remember my mother shouting us to come through to the dining room because our tea was ready and her looking at our red tear stained faces like WTF?! I only left you watching CBBC!

winewolfhowls · 11/01/2017 15:40

If you liked the animals of farthing wood you might like the novels about the moles, I think they were duncton wood.

loobyloo1234 · 11/01/2017 16:48

Hey ... no one ever remembers this, I've found my people
