On here for traffic really. I know my son is over weight. But how much?? What is your 10 year olds waist. His last set of uniform was 10-11 years so didn't think it was that bad. But when I needed to buy more whilst he wasn't shopping with me I measured his waist befor school. It's the same as mine Blush

My daughter is 10 almost 11 she is aged 11-12 for height. I can go to new look and buy her size 6! She's slim and tall x

My 10 year old DS's PE shorts are a 26" waist - but he is over 150cm tall, so quite a big lad, although not over weight - his weight is 38kg, so I think his BMI is about 50th centile

squiggleirl · 08/01/2017 20:50

DS1 is 10. They checked his height in school just before Christmas. He's 148cm (just over 4ft 10"). I am looking for trousers for him too and had checked this weekend - his waist is just under 25".

DailyFail1 · 08/01/2017 21:01

Dd is 8 and wears 10-11 for the length but can still fit into 5-6 for waist. She's tall and reedy.

HappySeven · 08/01/2017 21:29

My 10 yr old DS is 5' 2" and has a 24” waist.

Ilovemygsd · 08/01/2017 21:30

On all the bmi things it says he's a healthy weight, just. 1lb on and he'd be classed as over weight. But at 4ft 2 a 29 inch waist isn't healthy.... is it Confused

I wear DSD (was ten in November) tops all the time. My waist is 24inch and so is hers. But then one of my thinghs is the same as my waist.
I would not class DSD as fat, she is not skinny but has a healthy bmi

PoptartPoptart · 08/01/2017 22:01

My 11 year old is 5ft 2" and has a 29" waist. He has always had a disproportionately big belly compared to the rest of him. I did mention it to the doctor once when he was younger but she didn't seem concerned so I just think that's his shape. Makes it hard to find trousers and particularly jeans to fit him though. At times, especially after a meal, he looks 9 months pregnant.

PurpleMinionMummy · 08/01/2017 22:04

Ds is 143cm tall and has a 22" waist. There's not much on him tbf!

He sounds quite like my 10yo who is also on the very top of the healthy weight range. I don't know what his waist is but as someone said, he 'won't blow over in a gale'.

I'm taking this as a signal to look at his diet, reducing the amounts of sugar and rubbish he has, and attempting to get him moving more. Hopefully this will sort things out naturally as he grows. Can you do something similar with your DS - no need to go mad but just some sensible changes?

SaucyJack · 08/01/2017 22:11

Just measured DD2, and hers is 22 inches.

I thought it would be less TBH. She one of the smallest and skinniest in her class.

22 inches used to be a size 8. No wonder vanity sizing is coming in. It'd be a very small measurement for a grown woman.

Is he toned or fat/wobbly?

If it's the latter, ignore the BMI chart and start helping him to lose weight.

He is a bit "wobbly" tbf, we've been working on his weight since July with a fit bit and healthy lifestyle since July (dr recommended) but never actually measured his waist b4 so was shocked at that

That does sound big. But from your most recent update it sounds like you aren't kidding yourself that he's super skinny or anything, I'm sure it will be fine.
