To want a 7 seater car that actually has a decent boot?!

Trying to find a 7 seater car that has a good sized boot with all seats in use.
Why do most of them have the tiniest boot?

Can anyone recommend one that is be able to fit a pram in?

Thanks. Going to look at all suggestions. Got more idea what not to get too, which will save time hopefully.

Anyone know what the Audi Q7 is like boot wise?

Love the look of the Tesla X...the doors are very Back to The Future!

Fourandnomore it is great for long trips. We have the middle seat free on each row to split them up !

bumbleymummy · 08/01/2017 14:33

The Q7 has a smaller boot than the xc90.

oldbirdy · 08/01/2017 14:37

Seconding the Honda frv- we had one when our 4 were younger. Now have an s max as we have no pram and only 1 car seat (yippee!!). S max boot is fine for a shop with no buggy but if you only need 6 seats you could put one back row seat down for storage as we do when we go camping.

As prevoiusly mentioned only Japanese imports or a mini bus ( which i suppose the imports are a varitaion of) seem to cover this niche adequately.
Toyota and Nissan being the main contenders.
We used to have a Nissan Largo. You could fit a double pram and shopping in the boot. Only downsides were fuel economy wasn't brilliant and it had the turning circle of a tanker.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 08/01/2017 14:55

We've looked into this and decided that a Mercedes GL is probably going to be best for all seats up and boot space. Volvo XC90 is probably the next best.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 08/01/2017 14:56

Our friends have a Mercedes Vito which is huge. But it is basically like driving a van

Looks great. What they insurance and reliability like?

bumbleymummy · 08/01/2017 15:12

The GL is lovely but it's quite a heavy big thing so it's mpgs aren't great - not sure if that's an issue for you or not...

empirerecordsrocked · 08/01/2017 15:13

I have a highly unfashionable zafira but we could get the double buggy in when 7 seats were used so I stuck with it. Could get some shopping in as well.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 08/01/2017 15:13

I think the Mercedes are pretty reliable. We discounted a Range Rover and a discovery based on reliability (without even considering space) as too many nightmare stories from friends. Both my parents have always had Mercedes and they have been fine.

Friend reports no problem with her Vito. It's slow though - hence another reason we will go for the GL as it is a bit speedier (particularly if you get the sport version I think it is) Not sure about insurance.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 08/01/2017 15:16

Thanks bumbley. It's a good point. I currently have an Audi rs4 estate which drinks fuel like nothing on earth and j think the GL will be a bit more economical Blush

I just tootle about though. DH drives more so he is going for a 5 series BMW estate as apparently they are very economical. Just thinking snowflake - what's the BMW 7 seater like?

isithotinhereorisitjustme · 08/01/2017 15:19

We have a Hyundai i800 aswell. 8 full size seats and a massive boot - we drive to Europe in it 2 and can fit five cases plus a wheelchair in the boot. (and it is easier to park than DH's Nissan Note!)

ghostspirit · 08/01/2017 15:20

We had a chrysler grand voyager. It's 7 seater lots of space inside and good boot space.

We need a new car to.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 08/01/2017 15:20

I've got 4 DCs and I've had a lot of cars!! Smax was fab with just 3 DCs but not so great with 4. Boot is tiny with the extra seats up and the older children found it very claustrophobic to sit in. We had a Zafira before that and it was just generally an awful car. I've also had the Honda FRV and while the principle is good, the boot is a normal car size but having a child sitting between you at the front is annoying to put it mildly.

We've now got the Mercedes Viano (passenger version of the Vito) and it is amazing. I love it and will never, ever swap! We have got 2 seats up front and 4 in the back. It's fabulous for long journeys with the table up, the seats move forward and back so if you've got more than usual you can make the boot bigger. The seats all swap directions and are individual arm chair styles. It was more expensive than we would've really wanted to pay but it will last longer and it is a dream to drive. We went camping in it last summer - everything we needed for 2 weeks away went in the boot. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 08/01/2017 15:21

Oh just to add - we've got the Viano 2.2cdi and it is not slow. It cruises beautifully and still has plenty of oomph to accelerate away.

DopeyDazy · 08/01/2017 15:23

Fourandnomore and Gubbygubby we have the auto I 800 and its brilliant there is an owners group on Facebook with slme helpful info

DopeyDazy · 08/01/2017 15:29

Some :-(

DearyDearyDeary · 08/01/2017 16:42

If you use 7 seats in a C-Max Grand, a prawn (albeit a big one) is just about all you could get in the boot. The S-Max is way bigger....

birdling · 08/01/2017 18:25

We've just got a Nissan Elgrand. Loads of space.

Caboodle · 08/01/2017 19:25

Xc90 costs a small fortune to run and has a shockingly large turning circle. Good visibility though. Back 2 seats are very good - comfortable for most adults. Boot good even when all 7 seats are up.

fourandnomore · 08/01/2017 22:17

Thank you dopeydazey I'll have to have a look for that.

thismumismad · 08/01/2017 22:39

I've had many Toyota Estima, eight seats to comfortably fit 8 adults plus a very decent boot. I now have a nine seater Vw Transporter, big enough for six people plus our camping gear if we use a couple of roof boxes and she still does 600 to 650 miles to a tank of diesel.

Minxy78 · 08/01/2017 23:17

look at VW Caddy Maxi. We spent months researching and test-driving many of the ones mentioned here, but so glad we got the Caddy. The rear two seats are a full-size bench. Can be folded down or completely removed, which turns the boot into a van.....fits our enormous tent plus tons of gear easily. With all 7 seats up, the boot is still big....I can fit a pram in without folding it. Also runs in fresh air! Fuel economy is incredible.
