To think This Morning was wrong to shame this woman?

Sorry, but what business does he have to decide what someone spends their benefits on? So what if she bought a bottle of Prosecco?

He says he doesn't care about the Prosecco but it's so obvious that he does. This is a man worth £2million sitting in his ivory tower and shaming a woman for buying a £4.99 bottle of Prosecco.

Is this what this country has become? A country where we deny people any pleasure or fun because they are on benefits?

"Scoose

Did anyone read the letter upthread? Didn't she say she lied about spending all of that money on presents?"

Do you trust anything she says?

CarolineMumsnet · 07/01/2017 20:43

Hi everyone. We totally understand that emotions can run a little high on this kind of topic. If you are feeling het up by what you read here, feel free to take a little breather from this thread. We have agreed with the OP to amend the thread title to something slightly less contentious - so if you notice a change, that is why.

CaraAspen · 07/01/2017 20:45

"NotStoppedAllDay

You can't just end a thread.... or 'draw it to a close hmm"

Jeez. Exactly. YOU are not in charge, OP.

This was the follow up article, yesterday. (contains nudity)

A benefits mother-of-four who this week admitted to splashing out £2,800 on her children's Christmas presents, has revealed how she's treated herself to a £2,045 makeover.
Former teacher Deborah Hodge, 43, from London spent her state handouts on Botox, new make-up, weight loss supplements and six different haircuts at £60 each before she settled on a style she liked.
She had piled on weight after her 24-year-old toyboy lover Daniel, 15 years her junior at the time, left her but at the end of 2016 she decided she needed to change her image.
Unrepentant Deborah said she had no qualms about using benefits as feeling good about her body is 'just as important' as paying the gas bill and sets a positive example to her children.

Earlier this week, Deborah was blasted by This Morning viewers after she appeared on the show to discuss her lavish family Christmas.
She revealed how she'd splashed out £2,8000 on gifts such as puppies and iPads for her children, and spent the £10 Christmas bonus all benefits recipients are given on Prosecco.
Viewers were enraged to hear how she'd raised her glass of fizz and said, 'Cheers to the taxpayer.'
Her other recent extravagance involved spending £1,000 on Botox, haircuts, facials and mani pedis as well as gym membership and weight loss supplements to help her slim down.
In order to settle on a style she was happy with for her new image, she went to the hairdresser six times to try different colours and looks - at a cost of £60 a time.

I bet they won't quote the bit about disabled people being too scared to do press because of demonisation though...

So I tell you what, I'll gladly swap you. You live on 73 quid a week, maintain a home , food, clothes , as well as look after a profoundly disabled child while struggling with your own disability

Its just the msm making anyone on benefits look like a lazy fucker, once again. I don't know anyone on disability benefits who would have the energy for all that as well as being unwell. It takes all my strength just to get through the week.

Where do they find these people?
Exactly! And how on earth does it not result in their benefits being cut? How are they passing the (known to be very strict) assessment? Do you think they get exemptions because they are useful to the government, by changing public opinion?

meanwhile ive just had to fill another bloody million pages on a form to get my profoundly disabled DC DLA renewed, plus my own disabilities while being a carer.

people like that woman should be jailed and how is she going to pay it all back in her debt? guess what? shell get away with it as always.

they make me sick, and there are a LOT of scroungers and cheats out there who give the genuine a terrible reputation.

and btw my £10.00 'bonus' went on a xmas gift for DC. that's all DC got. not complained about it either, accepted gift and was grateful.

I have a lot of disability living expenses the gov cant be arsed to help with, it leaves me with hardly anything. I have to have a dongle with pay as you go for the internet (and only on internet cos everythings online these days) and can hardly go on it anyway as I cant afford it.

they get these people on tv to goad them and us.

amispartacus · 07/01/2017 20:49

It's her choice what to spend the money on. But I do not understand why she would go to the media - and why the need for publicity.

It does no one any good.

CondensedMilkSarnies · 07/01/2017 20:50

I wonder if the Botox gave her a wonky eyebrow ?

She's just hungry for fame - she reminds me of Katie Hopkins ( not to look at but attitude)

Roussette · 07/01/2017 20:51

OP you can't start a thread and when it doesn't go how you want, tell posters to stop posting. It doesn't work like that! People are entitled to an opinion.

No idea what you were trying to achieve by posting in the first place anyway. I disagree with you. PS was quite measured considering. So there!

MrsMattBomer · 07/01/2017 20:52

As MNHQ said I was venting. I'm happy to hide the thread now as I think the title was probably a bit inflammatory.

OP posts:
CaraAspen · 07/01/2017 20:53

Just had a look at her pics. She looks like a disaster area, then and now. Cannot BELIEVE she was ever a teacher far less a proper one.

I wonder why she didn't have her tattoos removed courtesy of the taxpayer?

CondensedMilkSarnies · 07/01/2017 20:53

I wonder if people on benefits that can afford all these presents , Botox , makeovers etc are doing some cash in hand work. I certainly couldn't afford any extras when I was claiming benefits - it was a massive financial struggle.

user1483046088 · 07/01/2017 20:54

She shamed herself

If you are taking off that taxpayers people who wake up at the crack of dawn do shit jobs they hate jobs away from home were they don't see there kids dangerous job like in the armed forces or fire men were they risk there lives

At least have some fucking humility about it

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 07/01/2017 20:55

Actually no - it was your posts that were inflammatory, shouty and sweary - that's why people reacted like they did

amispartacus · 07/01/2017 20:57

She's just hungry for fame - she reminds me of Katie Hopkins

Yes - I'm surprised she hasn't commented - but it takes one to know one. Using the media and outrage to generate publicity

woodhill · 07/01/2017 21:01

Yes, I think there probably is a cash in hand sideline or maybe the dcs dads give her cash as they should but it is not declared.

CaraAspen · 07/01/2017 21:01

"LiviaDrusillaAugusta

Indeed. Why is the OP frantically back pedalling? Why is she trying to suggest she is a poor little new poster who had no idea people with different opinions would post on "her" thread?

conserveisposhforjam · 07/01/2017 21:03

just had a look at her pics. She looks like a disaster area, then and now. Cannot BELIEVE she was ever a teacher far less a proper one.

Gosh that's a nasty misogynistic little post...

amispartacus · 07/01/2017 21:05

If I were HMRC / the job centre, I would be investigating her quite closely. As I would if I were a credit card company who she had credit with....

It's worth putting your head above the parapet if you have a cause to fight. But it seems she is only fighting for the publicity cause. Not for people on benefits.

SumThucker · 07/01/2017 21:07

Best strop from an OP I've ever seen on here Grin

I can't bear Philip Schofield but can't see what he's said wrong here.

user1483698419 · 07/01/2017 21:10

As a tax payer I agree with the OP. It's her money. She can spend it on whatever she likes. No one eklse's business. It's her money to do what she wants with.

DrivingMeBonkers · 07/01/2017 21:11

conserveisposhforjam - she wasn't a teacher - if you read her various media pieces she goes from teacher to deputy head; actually she was a TA. She is a fantasist.

Gosh, she is bonkers - I feel very sorry for her children.

And as an aside, whoever did her botox needs a slap. Atrocious - unless she asked for one maniacal eyebrow...

CaraAspen · 07/01/2017 21:23

Ahh. She was a TA. Glad that has been cleared up. I can rest more easily. Lol

CaraAspen · 07/01/2017 21:25

"...she goes from teacher to deputy head; actually she was a TA@

A fantasist or a liar. Or possibly both.
