AIBU to drink?

We have invited good friends to dinner tonight. They have texted to say they are doing dry January. We do dry-three-days-each-week and do not do dry Jan. I was planning on drinking wine and my husband beer. So long as we are modest, AIBU to drink while they are not?

Nothing wrong with dry January but you shouldn't need others to abstain in front of you unless you have a drinking problem.

I think you should drink if you like. I do agree with snatchedpencil that the concept of dry January is not helpful for people with alcohol problems.

I do dry January but only to boost some weight loss after Christmas season over indulgence, I wouldn't even think to mention it to someone if they invited me for dinner though, i wouldn't consider it relevant.
YANBU to drink at all OP, your friend is a little attention seeking tbh.

I think I drink aboot 10 units a week spread over 3 or 4 nights. I'm doing dry January because I want to get off my medication for pre diabetes and I want to see just how much it's going to take. I have blood tests at the end of the month and I'll see from there if it's feasible or not.

YANBU, but the evening might not be as fun for you all if you're on different wavelengths.
