...of eating a toasted cheese sandwich made on buttered toast?

If I had known in advance that the (well meaning and much loved) person who offered to make a toasted cheese sandwich intended to commit such an atrocity I would have told them I was not hungry.

Is it just me? I always put the cheese on dry bread it. Isn't that what everyone does?

I have been unwell recently and my tummy is not as stable as usual, so that might be a contributing factor...

The sandwich in question (and the ones I make myself) are cooked under the grill.

It would seem butter on cheese on toast is not as unusual as I thought.

If you mean made in a toastie maker, then I'd butter the outsides but NOT the inside. That's just foolish.

Cheese on toast - no butter.
Cheese toastie - butter on the outside only.
Cheese sandwich - butter on the inside only.

I'm with you OP. Just thinking about it makes ill.

But I can't stand anything greasy or oily like that but seems I'm in the minority. I don't like butter on bacon or sausage butties either.

I do ours in the grill, so no butter. Just pop a two slices of dry bread under the grill with cheese, then put together cheese side in and grill on both sides. Not dry at all.

This reminds me that my DP, early on, made me a bacon sarnie. Lovely. He toasted it.

Butter with bacon or sausages would be horrible but it's mandatory on a chip butty!
