To think people shouldn't moan about events happening in London

I'm really annoyed - I work really hard on a certain project, I go above and beyond and it all works very well. Then people further away start moaning that 'why is it always in London'. Because that is the place the majority of people can get transport to. Obviously. I have explained until I am blue in the face and now they are moaning again, on social media. I really want to reply #I'vefuckingtoldyouthisalreadystopfuckingmoaning.

None of the people currently giving up their time for free are also going to travel as well, they are all London based, so helping my thing is easy for them. I can't help where the capital city is can I! Fucks sake.

In my experience it causes a fair amount of resentment if national events are.always held in or around London / she just because it is easiest for most. It means that a subset of potential attendees are effectively excluded every single time, this will be noted and they will believe that they are of less importance to the company because of their location.

Good practice to move events around the country so everyone gets a chance to go.

That's definitely the approach to talk. Just say "I look forward to everyone's help organising next year's event. We can discuss suitable venues and locations at our monthly planning meeting where we will work out how to divide the workload".

It's a cliched groove of moaning for people. It's always easy to moan about London, people living here don't give a monkeys and so you offend no one.

I do agree. I've organised events in other areas but they weren't as well attended. London is often easiest to get to on public transport (even in the same region).

Eg one city is an hour from me by driving but nearly three hours by public transport (as I'd have to go into London and out again).

Definitely got the vocal complainers to help plan in future!

We used to organise a big even in Leicester on the basis that it was in the middle for everyone. It pleased no one. Now we alternate London and Manchester.

We tend to alternate senior level protect meetings where the senior people are based. So London, Paris, New York etc. Location of the ordinary workers doesn't really come into it unless we need a workshop & in that case we would use teleconferencing.

I was preparing to say YABU as I do get fed up of national things happening in London. Eg a national ie British children's orchestra meeting near Southampton! But if most of the people involved are in London anyway I'd just ignore the complaining of fb. Is it the fact they're griping on a social network instead of putting a case for having it somewhere else that's getting to you?

I hate the fact most stuff is in London. It's like nothing else exist in this country unless it's done there.

But then I've also being to stuff in other places such as Bristol or Oxford. It was a nightmare to get to it, trains were taking ages so I ended wishing it was all in London instead ....

It is a bit annoying though when you are outside of London, and is just another one of those things that makes everything seem to gravitate there. My professional institution is headquartered there and they always have interesting breakfast meetings and so on going on, most of the training is there etc etc. I fully understand why that is. But I can't take a 2.5 hour train journey just for a breakfast meeting. All of this reinforces the attitude that you have to be in London to get anywhere. Hopefully with teleconferencing getting better this sort of thing might improve, but it would be nice if there was more of an effort to promote the regions too.

Why would you host a meeting for your board in Scunthorpe if the board all love in Manchester London and Birmjngham?

YANBU. We have this. Our regional meeting is now being held near Coventry because it's central and some people were complaining about having to go to London.

Only trouble is there's no transport connections and it was a damn sight easier for me, and all my colleagues in Yorkshire, Kent, Bristol, Cambridge etc to get to London because it was a one train and done job Despite being physically closer, it will take most of us longer to get to Coventry than London.

No one ever takes this into account.

I don't live anywhere near London (I'm in Aberdeen) and never have but the population of London is huge (bigger than the population of all of scotland, for example) and has excellent transport links so of course it makes sense for stuff to take place there rather than in, say, Kilmarnock.

Yes! Totally. It's like, they don't respect all the valid points I've made by email and now they are stamping their feet in public. And we are supposedly part of a team so I can't reply publicly without us looking like a bunch of arguing twats. I've just got to bite my tongue I guess.
