Just read this article

www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/outraged-man-asks-tesco-to-ban-disgusting-shoppers-from-wearing-pyjamas/ar-BBxVcVl?ocid=spartandhp

Wearing PJs in Tesco's should be banned because its offensive and making people feel uncomfortable, Ridiculous. Not sure about you but I generally don't find anything threatening or to be worried about by people in PJs? I cant see that its indecent either; I doubt people are parading down the isles in skimpy Lingerie this time of year. Even if they were there is nothing wrong with the human body. This isn't Calvinist Geneva or Taliban controlled Kandahar. Some people are offended by or feel uneasy around Goths, Clowns, Women in niqab or burka, Transsexuals, people in football shirts etc. It doesn't mean that their personal hang ups should restrict other peoples freedom of dress. People are so easily offended these days.

Anyone else offended by people in PJs in Tesco?

It doesn't bother me in the slightest. I'm not going to start wearing my pj's for tesco's anytime soon but I don't have a problem with people who do. There are a lot more worrying things going on in the World right now than stressing over people wearing pj's at the supermarket.

cherrycrumblecustard · 05/01/2017 18:57

I am reading some of these posts in Hyacinth Bouquet's voice - "never seen it in a respectable area" Grin

Tbh once I would never have done it. But since other people do I do too. And I live in a very respectable area. Mostly.

cherrycrumblecustard · 05/01/2017 18:58

Weirdly I would judge someone who couldn't be arsed to get their child dressed.

Trainspotting1984 · 05/01/2017 18:58

I care because it means I live in a shit area

Emmageddon · 05/01/2017 18:59

I work nights and wear pyjamas that don't look look like pyjamas, so I can take my little dog out for a walk halfway through the day then go straight back to bed. I wear leggings and a long top in the winter and a vest top with loose cropped trousers in the summer and I defy anyone to tell that I am wearing nightwear. However I don't go to the supermarket like that, just along the beach where I live

SuffolkBumkin · 05/01/2017 18:59

Chavvy is a nasty word.

Trainspotting1984 · 05/01/2017 19:00

"New mothers that are sleep deprived and probably dont fit into any of their pre pregnancy clothes but materniry wear is too big?
Someone that feels rough and cba with putting on clothing that often feels uncomfortable when your ill? A pp said when she had no other trousers that were dry she wore pj bottoms. Ill add more when i can think."

Wtf? These are all utter crap and no reason to go out in your PJs.

"A quick question to everyone is only adults dressed in pjs in the shops you have a problem with or if a toddler was dressed in pjs would it still offend you?"

Yes

Tartyflette · 05/01/2017 19:00

Could be worse, like here
Duvet shopping, anyone?

Disgusting? No, lazy? Absolutely, it takes three seconds to throw on a pair of leggings and a hoodie.
For the poster who said there are loads of reasons for people doing this I'd love to know what they are because I genuinely can't think of any.

OverTheGardenGate · 05/01/2017 19:01

I once went to Sainsbury's wearing my slippers, but that was more of a senior moment than idleness. Was otherwise quite smartly dressed. Embarrassing. Ou

1horatio · 05/01/2017 19:01

I've have never seen that.

But I once watched a thenpeople of wallmart compilation on YouTube, that's worse than these shoppers in their pyjamas. Much worse.

But I don't think it should be banned.

HolidaySpiritsReinbeerAndWhine · 05/01/2017 19:01

Nobody with an ounce of decency goes out in PJs, do they?

I've often thought the same of people who wear Birckenstock sandles, but evidently people do.

Plenty of reasons why people do go in their pjs. Only the smaller-minded of people couldn't possibly imagine why a person would do as much. Not easy seeing beyond your own perspective, when surrounded by a fog of smugness.

cherrycrumblecustard · 05/01/2017 19:01

Trainspotting, you do seem to mind awfully!

There are far more indicators of living in a shit area than someone wearing pyjamas!

2dogsonthesofa · 05/01/2017 19:02

I really am not in the slightest bothered by shoppers in PJs.Mind you I do get most of my shopping delivered. However I did go out this morning with a coat over my PJs to let the hens and guinea pigs out and was rather hoping none of the neighbours were around quite so early.

MadMags · 05/01/2017 19:02

I haven't though, cherry.

My sister lives somewhere that you take your life into your hand just going outside in. The local supermarket is full of them.

Conversely, my mother lives in a naice area and nobody would be caught dead like that.

It's the absolute epitome of chavvy, IMHO. And if people want to be chavs that's their lookout. Personally, I don't understand why it's too strenuous to put a pair of yoga pants and a hoody or something on.

Gideonsangel123 · 05/01/2017 19:02

I've seen quite a few not so young mums in grubby onesies and fake Ugg boots picking their kids up at home time, up to them I suppose but they still look like skanks.

Roussette · 05/01/2017 19:02

toddler not so bad because Mum sorts out their clothes and they don't make the choice.

As an adult you choose what you put on to go to the shops. Unless there is a very good reason (as a couple of people have mentioned) it is lazy. A pregnant woman can wear jogging bottoms surely. What happens if she needs to go to meet some friends, or go to the Dr.'s surgery, she only has pj's to wear? Doubtful.

1horatio · 05/01/2017 19:03

Tbh, it's not like I'm going to hug these people, is it?

So, I personally don't really care.

As long as nobody tried to make me wear my pyjamas outside it's ok.;)

justatoe1 · 05/01/2017 19:03

We have a very posh lady around here.....she wears a fur (well faux probably) coat over her PJs at the shops! We obviously live in a naice area.

indigox · 05/01/2017 19:04

'Discusting' offends me, its disgusting.

identityhidden · 05/01/2017 19:04

Ohh I've done that too.. been taken to the GP in pyjamas Blush. I did get a few funny looks then and you'd think of all places that would jammies would be relatively OK a surgery would be one of them.

Namechangeemergency · 05/01/2017 19:04

There have been loads of threads about this on MN. I am always surprised that people passionately defend it. I don't think its offensive but its a bit odd.
The reasons for defending it are usually around tiredness, busyness, PND etc.
But you really don't see it as much as you used to which makes me think the main reason for it is 'fashion'. It was a fad and now its not people miraculously find the time to get dressed in the morning.

I am sure its still going on but not on the scale it was. I live in East London and at least a third of the mums (always mums) would turn up at the school gate in pjs.
I haven't seen one for months and months and certainly not in the supermarket.
It was all a bit attention seeking.

In the big scheme of things it doesn't really matter. I wouldn't do and never have. Not even when I had newborns, a very very sick child, toddlers, depression or all those other things that are supposed to cause it.

I think if you look at it as a fashion fad it makes a bit more sense.

cherrycrumblecustard · 05/01/2017 19:04

Yes, but if a law was imposed saying that they couldn't go out in their pyjamas it would still be an unpleasant area!

anotheryearcomesandgoes · 05/01/2017 19:05

Google the people of walmart

25 years ago I managed a large supermarket in SE london. Pjs were not unusual then. Friday night it was hair nets, dressing gowns and shoplifting.

Sybys · 05/01/2017 19:05

Yeah I'll admit to judging it, but I don't see any reason for it to be banned tbh.
