Just read this article

Wearing PJs in Tesco's should be banned because its offensive and making people feel uncomfortable, Ridiculous. Not sure about you but I generally don't find anything threatening or to be worried about by people in PJs? I cant see that its indecent either; I doubt people are parading down the isles in skimpy Lingerie this time of year. Even if they were there is nothing wrong with the human body. This isn't Calvinist Geneva or Taliban controlled Kandahar. Some people are offended by or feel uneasy around Goths, Clowns, Women in niqab or burka, Transsexuals, people in football shirts etc. It doesn't mean that their personal hang ups should restrict other peoples freedom of dress. People are so easily offended these days.

Anyone else offended by people in PJs in Tesco?

I find removing my nightwear in the store dramatically shortens the queue at the till. Grin

bunty

Because the sparky Italian dancer did it to honour DH and his family. And was then followed by people dancing tarantella, which was the 'correct' culture... 🙈🙈

And they're English (with some Scottish) not Irish... 😅

Still, it was very very beautiful. She did that toe stand thingy, where it looked a bit as if she was dancing ballet...

1horatio · 06/01/2017 12:58

I mean, she was like... and something from where you are from... 🙈

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 06/01/2017 13:03

Ah I see. Well at least Irish dancing can be sexy. I can't imagine even a sparkly Italian sexing up an authentically English Morris dance Grin

bunty

Oh gosh, Morris dance! I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but it certainly doesn't make the dancers very attractive, does it?

Not that the tarantella is oozing with sex appeal or anything... but it's really fun!!
None of the pictures are from our wedding, btw...

I am amazed at all the replys. There are so many important issuses in the world and on MN. I must admit when I posted this I was never expected this to become such a hot topic. Also it amazes me how capable of being mean and dehumanising people we are

The irony of your joke title is that I doubt that those of us who are capable of being "mean and dehumanising " are the ones who would make the "discusting" mistake.

Your "there are many important issues" comment makes you sound sanctimonious. Why then start a thread on a matter which is apparently too trivial to justify replies?

JustDanceAddict · 06/01/2017 13:25

I just think it's ridiculous. Takes 5 mins to get dressed - just put on trackie bottoms if needs be.

1horatio · 06/01/2017 13:27

just
Are trackie bottoms really better?

If you're planning to go running after the school run? Fair enough...

Bluntness100 · 06/01/2017 13:34

I'm picturing...7pm they've probably got changed into fresh pjs to have a quiet night in, decided they wanted a bottle of wine and some nibbles and live spitting distance from the shop...so why bother getting dressed. confused

paxillin · 06/01/2017 13:35

Track suit bottoms imply a wash of some sort might have happened, underwear has been put on. Pjs look like the wearer is so overwhelmed and struggling basic hygiene cannot be observed.

I've only seen people I know in pjs a day after surgery, the day after giving birth or in times of mental health crisis. An alcoholic neighbour frequently shuffles out in PJs, but then she really does have bigger issues than worrying about getting dressed.

1horatio · 06/01/2017 13:41

pax ah, I shower in the evening.

I guess it depends on the tracksuit bottoms. Pyjamas and 'loungewear' are sometimes really similar (identical?) imo...

paxillin · 06/01/2017 13:45

I'm picturing towelling pj bottoms, stretched out knees and bum, Hello Kitty print Grin. Maybe the pj wearers mean Japanese-style midnight blue silk trousers, freshly ironed and combined with beautifully pedicured feet. This is not my RL experience of pjs out and about.

MLGs · 06/01/2017 13:51

I don't understand why the don't sleep in a tracksuit or something resembling one if they want to do this. Then no one would know. I expect many people do.

Or just pull a tracksuit over pjs if you want to be swanky and get away with it.

But that said it doesn't bother me.

Bare chests bother me (as would bare bottom half but that doesn't tend to happen)

ineedmorelemonpledge · 06/01/2017 13:56

Who pops out for cigarettes in their pyjamas? Aren't they already wearing their smoking jackets in anticipation of lighting up?

Is there now a new hipster slant of people going to bed, or digging the garden in ballgowns, elbow high gloves and tuxedos?

Just to balance things out....?

CaraAspen · 06/01/2017 13:57

Lol

CaraAspen · 06/01/2017 13:58

Loving those wise guy retorts. Lol

Toadinthehole · 06/01/2017 14:01

Irish dancing?

I've never understood why affecting partial paralysis is sexy.

Aridane · 06/01/2017 14:23

I wore pyjamas for going out for a period last year. This was following surgery, I needed loose clothing around the surgery site for comfort, and the consultant had advised to keep mobile with a small walk each day.

Getting changed would have been an undue effort - surprising the amount of muscles etc are involved in getting changed - and my focus was getting out for a walk.

Am pleased to report there were no stares at my uncouthness. Live and let live.

7SunshineSeven7 · 06/01/2017 14:43

I know someone who used to get changed out of the pajamas she was wearing into nicer pajamas to go to the shop Grin

Fallonjamie · 06/01/2017 14:50

There are numerous items of lose clothing that would be comfortable after childbirth, surgery or a night shift.

People have given birth, had surgery and worked nights for centuries (millenia for childbirth) but it's only over the last few years that people apparently have no choice but to wear their nightwear out and about.

Fallonjamie · 06/01/2017 14:51

Loose clothing.

Waltermittythesequel · 06/01/2017 15:44

Exactly. Most people manage to wear actual clothes after all these things. It's not difficult.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 06/01/2017 15:53

People need to channel a bit of Demis Roussos and slip themselves into a comfy kaftan.

Aridane · 06/01/2017 15:59

Getting out for a short walk post surgery (in pyjamas) was a huge achievement for me. Can't get very excited that it was done in pyjamas.

Fallonjamie · 06/01/2017 16:06

Getting out for a short walk after surgery was a huge achievement. It was for me too. But it didn't have to be done in pyjamas. Saying that's a reason why people HAVE to wear pj's in public is incorrect. Otherwise people would have been doing it for decades and they haven't.
