I know iabu so it's just a rant really.
It's great that people decide to get fit but I'm struggling to get into classes that I've been going to for over a year and its mobbed sane as last January.
I know it will all die down again by February. The gym booking system crashed today because there was so many people trying to access it!
Good luck to anyone starting a new e revise plan, I hope you manage to stick to it Halo

If you don't like it, don't join. It's very simple. You are perfectly entitled to dislike it, but it's a hobby, something you pay to do. There cannot be any less pressure to join a hobby! The classes are open to absolutely everybody, as long as they follow some rules. No discrimination, no sexism, nothing. People treated equally.

Clients, because that's what you are when you pay a gym, are free to vote with their feet. The classes are always full, so it's obviously a hit for many people. There are so many gyms and sport clubs around the area, it would be more than easy for clients to go elsewhere if they disliked the rules.

Sirzy · 04/01/2017 13:08

So putting someone off exercising because they can't wear The make up that makes them feel comfy is good how?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 04/01/2017 13:14

As long as the men at dings gym are being asked to shave

Nothing worse then seeing sweaty damp beards just dripping

Gross

Obviously its not....but i wouldnt take my makeup off, mine is subtle apart from the eye makeup

dingdongthewitchishere · 04/01/2017 13:18

As long as the men at dings gym are being asked to shave

That made me laugh. I don't think anyone has asked the girls to shave their own mustache? Male and female are however requested to wear a tshirt. And pants. It sounds fair.

Sirzy What precious snowflakes will actually throw a tantrum saying that class is the only class they wanted to do, ever, and if they can't have their own way, then they won't do any exercise at all, ever? Seriously?

YourFace · 04/01/2017 13:23

Well me! I'm that 'special snowflake,' that would object to some knob telling me what I can and cannot wear for no good reason.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 04/01/2017 13:26

Pants should be the minimum ding Shock

QueenMortificado · 04/01/2017 13:27

I've actually just realised about people who I do take notice of, and maybe we could enforce a rule about this:

People wearing leggings which are too thin and expose a thong when doing squats or yoga

If you're just behind a person like that in a body pump or yoga class it's really hard not to look!

BitOutOfPractice · 04/01/2017 13:28

Precisely. I pay to do a class. Not be told what to wear on my face. And as a client I don't expect to be bullied and patronised.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 04/01/2017 13:32

I think what you are talking about ding is indirect discrimination

It doesnt affect the vast majority of men because they dont wear makeup

In the same way that making it necessary to not have a beard only affects men and is therefore unfair on men as the vast majority of women dont have a beard...not mustache, beard

I sweat an incredible amount on the odd time i have had a personal trainer...even the backs of my hand Shock

Bluntness100 · 04/01/2017 13:33

TrueBlueYorkshire · 04/01/2017 13:41

I use the gym 5-7 times a week so am a member of quite a fancy one (25m indoor swimming pool, spas, saunas, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, cricket pitch, massive gym and studios). It costs a bomb but the upside is that it doesn't get the January rush and it feels like a little community. I've gone a few times with some of the blokes from the spin class to the local velodrome for sessions, and people bring their family nto the bar area for lunch/dinner. In the summer i quite often take my laptop and work out on the terrace till late in the evening as it is nicer than working at home!

dingdongthewitchishere · 04/01/2017 13:44

indirect discrimination

and here we go. I was waiting for that nonsense to come, and I can't be bothered to argue.

By the way, instructors are female as well as male. None of them are "sexist judgmental asshole" but I am proud that the students are not the bitter rude and aggressive posters above. The students range from obese and shy people to ones competing in national and international events. The gym where the classes are held are doing very very well, thank you very much.

I am glad that in real life, people enjoy exercise and don't waste as much energy on petty squabble and trying to find things to be offended about.

peace everybody, have a bright day.

heron98 · 04/01/2017 13:45

YANBU.

I've just been swimming. It was really busy and full of people who don't know how to give way. It happens every year. Roll on summer.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 04/01/2017 13:54

ding

Not offended at all

But i think thats why people are very anti it since you posted it. I wouldnt argue with it, dont understand the ins and outs of it...but i know that its a 'thing'

Trying to be helpful Smile

Sirzy · 04/01/2017 14:06

Sexist or not they are certainly judgemental if they believe people working out with make up on can't!

I had make up on in the gym today and I am pretty sure it didn't have a negative impact on my ability to exercise!

Bluntness100 · 04/01/2017 14:17

Of course it's sexist and judgemental, why can't women work out whilst wearing make up? Why does a woman wearing make up indicate a lack of seriousness on taking the class? Why does a woman not wearing make up indicate they are serious?. In fact what in the world gives the right to any gym instructor to tell a woman to remove her make up? Women can wear make up as and when they please. End of.

It's as sexist and judgemental as it gets to tell them to remove it and it's not remotely funny, and it's unusual for a woman to watch that and laugh about it. Personally I'd have told the instructor no and refused to leave the class and I'd have complained to the gym

No one has the right to tell me or any other woman whether we can wear make up or not.

QueenMortificado · 04/01/2017 14:30

Bluntness you put in to words exactly what I was feeling but much more eloquently than I could. Totally agree. 👊🏼👊🏼👊🏼

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 04/01/2017 14:35

The baby wipes thing sounds like one of those dicky instructors who enjoys the hour a week they feel like they have some power over people. What a stupid thing to do - clearly likely to upset and embarrass people. And yes, implicitly sexist.

It would be nice if in January the classes weren't so booked up. Of course it would. It's always nice if the classes aren't booked up.

What I do wish is that people - and it usually seems to be the men, actually - didn't wear strong smelling aftershave or whatever to class. When it gets hot and you're breathing a bit more heavily, all those strong peppercorn and black pepper type smells can be quite nauseating.

dingdongthewitchishere · 04/01/2017 15:05

Bluntness100

I completely disagree with you, but I think you are over-reacting a tiny bit. Ok, you would come with a face full of make up to make a point, pay for a membership you don't want. You would then sulk in a corner of the class for a couple of hours, be ignored by the instructors and the students, and never come back again. Great. Non story. We might as well move on before wasting even more time?

FizzBombBathTime · 04/01/2017 15:11

dingdong do you promote this magical sexist spin gym to the hilt like this in real life? Do they pay you commission? Or is it purely out of the goodness of your heart?

Formerpigwrestler9 · 04/01/2017 15:12

I can bench press more when I have my lipstick on

Formerpigwrestler9 · 04/01/2017 15:15

of course it's annoying when facilities that you use are much busier than normal, whether it's roads, footpaths, libraries, shops or whatever.

Busy January is just the way it goes with gyms, best to anticipate and work around it if you can

dingdongthewitchishere · 04/01/2017 15:28

FizzBombBathTime

I don't remember mentioning any name or even anything than a very vague location here? I am hardly promoting anything on here. You haven't even noticed that I didn't mention what kind of classes we were talking about. Grin You are getting in a strop all by yourself here!

K425 · 04/01/2017 15:46

I don't go to the gym, but I do swim. There are three higher education institutions in the mile around the pool so you can really tell when the students arrive - January, late April and October are our key pinchpoints.

As others have said, it's not the number of newbies that's an issue, it's etiquette. At the moment we've got two 25m pools, one 1.2m deep and one 2m deep and divided into lanes. If you can't swim 25m without having to rest against pool edge, you shouldn't be attempting the 2m deep pool. If you want to stop and have a chat with your mates then either use the non-laned pool or stay at the corner of the lane. Taking up the entire width of the lane is rude.

Actually, if you want to have a chat while wet, it would be cheaper to sit on a bench in the park, we get enough rain.

BroomHandledMouser · 04/01/2017 15:54

I joined two days ago at my local bannatynes. I don't care if I'm putting you out, no one will stop me from getting a cute tiny ass Xmas Smile
