I know iabu so it's just a rant really.
It's great that people decide to get fit but I'm struggling to get into classes that I've been going to for over a year and its mobbed sane as last January.
I know it will all die down again by February. The gym booking system crashed today because there was so many people trying to access it!
Good luck to anyone starting a new e revise plan, I hope you manage to stick to it Halo

No advertisement on boards I think, just a reminder when people book their place - bring a bottle of water/ no make-up, that sort of things. It's hardly a big deal. If you don't like it, there are other classes.

Unfortunately for me, I have seen women with dripping make-up, eyes like a panda, foundation with big drips of sweat. It really looks disgusting. I cant' say I really care, it's just not a pretty sight.

The gyms will all be very happy, though - all these people paying hefty subs and gradually dropping off like flies.

BitOutOfPractice · 04/01/2017 12:03

"If your first interaction with an instructor is to tell them to fuck themselves, then it's probably best if you don't attend his class."

If their first interaction with me was to tell me to take my make up off (even if I wasn't wearing any) then it's probably best he doesn't take my class. That is awful. Especially from a male instructor. He could indeed go and fuck himself.

BitOutOfPractice · 04/01/2017 12:06

"Unfortunately for me, I have seen women with dripping make-up, eyes like a panda, foundation with big drips of sweat. It really looks disgusting."

I have never seen that. Ever. And even if I did what problem is it for you? Concentrate on what you're doing not judging others. It doesn't affect how hard they work. In fact, if they've got in that state, they must have worked very hard. I can sweat a lot when running and my (minimal) make up stays ut.

I think you're just trying to excuse and minimise some pretty sexist shit going on there

YourFace · 04/01/2017 12:10

MaryMary i'm an ectomorph too. I'm straight up and down and very tall. I don't know what I typed word for word but I definitely don't think strong is easier. I was just saying it is, to me anyway an attractive look. I don't mean musclebound, just toned and strong.

There are some very skinny women in my classes that power pump with highest weights. Likewise, apple and pear. I find it attractive and inspirational. Hopefully that will be me, with commitment and determination.,.in the not too distant future.

DrinkReprehensibly · 04/01/2017 12:22

This thread has made me think about joining a gym and now I've made an appointment to look round one. That backfired a little Op! Let's hope it's not your gym Grin

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 04/01/2017 12:25

Attitudes like some on here is why many feel so conscious when they go to the gym, or even have stopped going.

hahaha
You've never seen women wearing make up in exercise class, I have. So what? It's not a competition for an alternative "people of walmart"/ "people at the gym". Just saying that someone asking for a class with no make-up had a point.

Good lord, I am not trying to sell the class, it's not even my class, it's just very funny. Different classes, different rules, just find the best one for you. If someone was asking me to wear a tutu, I just wouldn't attend. I don't think I would tell him to fuck off because I find the tutu requirement offensive. It doesn't take much to wind up some people, does it? You should join a gym to exercise all this anger Grin

Bluntness100 · 04/01/2017 12:37

Fizz, agree, plenty of ways to exercise , simply I wouldn't want people to be put off my this thread, gyms are normally welcoming and not intimidating.

My favourite, it's great you like to exercise outdoors, but I'm sure uou recognise that everyone enjoys something different and me personally I don't. And that's all good right?

As for the make up, no I've never seen someone messy and if I go after work I wouldn't consider taking my make up off first, it simply wouldn't occur to me. Even though I sweat, my hair sticks to my head, and i go a bit , well a lot, purple, I've never turned into a panda eyed mess yet, and I wear both mascara and eye liner.

QueenMortificado · 04/01/2017 12:37

I have to say that I have pretty much never noticed what another person has on their face, on their body, what they're doing etc

If you put 10 people from the gym class id just seen to in a line-up I really don't think I'd be able to remember who had been there. The only time I really notice is if someone is wearing a nice top or some leggings I like.

I really concentrate on myself, my form and imaging wearing a bikini on the beach Grin I couldn't say I have ever noticed if someone is wearing make up or not, and I really wouldn't give a shit if they were

QueenMortificado · 04/01/2017 12:40

Just saying that someone asking for a class with no make-up had a point.

I really can't see this. I mean, if he was asking people to take off their high heels at the door id understand it from a H&S perspective but make-up literally makes zero difference to a workout

dingdongthewitchishere · 04/01/2017 12:41

I couldn't say I have ever noticed if someone is wearing make up or not

trust me, you would if you were the one taking the class!

Sirzy · 04/01/2017 12:44

What impact does make up have on someone's safety during a class? Or even their ability to work out?

Honeydragon · 04/01/2017 12:44

But you think it's funny that people were asked to remove make up?

It's not. Especially if they are choosing to wear it to disguise something ignorant twats would comment on.

I stopped attending a swim class because a dickhead instructer loudly demanded to know "what was wrong with me?" when she saw my scars and a visible difference to my body.

I made a complaint too. Which I'm glad to say was supported by my gym.

So I would happily refuse a class where someone dictated what I could and couldn't have on my face based purely on their aesthetic principles or a misplaced theory that how much you face swears is an indication of your worthiness to attend Hmm

BitOutOfPractice · 04/01/2017 12:46

dingdong I suggest you read my post again. I never said I's never seen anyone in a class wearing make up. In fact I often have some on myself if I've come from work. What I said is that I had never seen the "women with dripping make-up, eyes like a panda, foundation with big drips of sweat."

Not only do I do classes myself bu I run 5 times a week on a treadmill right outside the room where all the classes take place and I have never seen a woman like you describe. (And bear in mind I live in Essex, well known for its make up excesses!) I think you are saying you see that to justify the sexist shit that the instructor was saying when he handed out wipes: Girls can't work hard

I utterly fail to see how wearing make up impacts on my ability to do a class effectively and being told to take it off would get very short shrift from me, especially from a man using such belittling tactics as that.

dingdongthewitchishere · 04/01/2017 12:47

but make-up literally makes zero difference to a workout

I don't think you get the point, and again, it's not even MY class. It's more about making a point, advising teenagers and selfie addict that the class is a workout environment, not a social club, and that hard work is expected. It's about showing respect to the class, instructors and other students by being committed. It's also a way to get rid of the know it all, "i know better than the instructor so I do what I want". I am sure they have other good reasons, but I am not writing a thesis on the subject.

I am not advocating the system to be applied to ALL exercises classes, I just found it really funny at the time. The class is bursting with students, they have results, so everybody is happy.

QueenMortificado · 04/01/2017 12:49

Just out of interest DingDong where abouts (geographically) is this gym?

dingdongthewitchishere · 04/01/2017 12:49

It's not sexist at all by the way, same comments would be made to men. They just don't tend to wear that much obvious make-up, so it's rare to have to ask them to remove it. The rules was not addressed to girls as such!

Honeydragon · 04/01/2017 12:50

Thick people with low self image who can't exercise where make up you mean?

If some twat thinks sparkly eyelids affect performance they need to go back to school themselves.

BitOutOfPractice · 04/01/2017 12:50

It's not your class but you are defending the actions of this sexist bully as "funny." It's not.

I am neither a teenager or a selfie addict. If I happen to have make up on at a class that's nobody's business but mine.

I am not a 13 year old being sent into the toilets to "wipe that muck off my face" and I don't expect to be treated as such. The respect you value so highly works both ways.

Honeydragon · 04/01/2017 12:50

WEAR WEAR.

Ffs three times I corrected that and it still snuck the autocorrect in Angry
