To think being an "apple" is the worst of all the shapes

Like lots of people, I've started the NY with the intention of losing weight. The health/fitness benefits go without saying.

BUT even if I shrank to nothing, like mrs pepperpot, I would still have enormous massive horrible boobs and gunt perched on top of skinny legs and no bum. It's less healthy to be this shape and it's virtually impossible to dress, because trousers are all saggy around the arse and hips whilst cutting into the waist, and by the time you've got a top that is big enough to cover the tits and gut, you look three sizes bigger than you really are (or "like a block" as my helpful DP once said when telling me that one oversized top was too oversized!).

If you are a pear, with a nice slinky waist, you can either celebrate your big bum or disguise it with something that makes you look all nipped in at the waist and slim. If you are a rectangle, or an hourglass, you're alright anyway. But being an apple? Awful!

I agree. I'm an hourglass and can normally get away with murder. Now that DD has given me a tummy, I feel for the apples.

I'm a pear with a big bum, chunky thighs and comparatively small boobs. I'd love skinny legs and a bit more in the norks department sigh.

I am like Who, just fat and my boobs have grown ( peri menopausal I think, combined with Christmas etc) don't look good in any clothes and given up buying much these days. Not really sure what shape I am if I am honest. lol different shops with different sizes do not help. have long legs and getting a 31 inch leg trousers or jeans isn't easy either, they don't seem to cater for my size!! ( and don't get me started on bras)

Agree completely- I'm an apple and even at 8 stone I've got a spare tyre, I find it impossible to look good in anything Confused

Now as a pear I could never wear a shift dress. That would be so unflattering on me.

I agree that current fashions favour Apple shapes more than pears eg loose or boxy tops and skinny trousers. I have a small waist but loose or drapey or flowy tops make me look big all over.

I am an apple. I have no trouble with trousers. I am size 10 below the waist and a 12 or 14 above.
My bust is big and my waist is a bit thick but I have a wide back too.
Its ok being an apple so long as you stay a healthy weight. Once I put weight on then waistbands ARE a problem. My bum is ok so long as I exercise to keep it firm..You can bulk up the muscle.

Apple here too. I hate it.
I've always had big boobs and no hips, but since having DS I now have the tummy too.
I look ok from the front, but from the side look like a barrel!

Yeah. I am 5ft 1 with a 36gg bust. I lost 2 stone last year my boobs stayed the same. I have decent legs but i look like a parsnip in skinny or straight jeans. Never found a dress to wear in 30 years.

I am a size 14 hourglass with big legs and I can never, ever find trousers that fit. I bulk buy Gap 30" Real Straight jeans when they're on offer as these are the only ones that do (on me they are like skinny jeans). Otherwise everything is too tight on the thighs & calves [calfs?] I have a 20 year-old pair of dressier trousers that I pray will not ever wear out as I know I'll never be able to replace them. Pointless trying to lose more than half a stone as it would never come off my legs anyway. If I dress to my shape I feel frumpy so I go for the Cos/Swedish architect look Grin (which hides the curves so... Confused

Dresses ARE a problem for apples.
I wear jeans and tops all the time.

It's also the unhealthiest statistically ☹️

I'm a pear and hate it though. My big bum and small boobs are nothing to celebrate

Trousers always seem to be made for pear shapes

Ha ha ha ha ha. Er no. I'm an hour glass and believe me, trousers are not made for women with waists and hips.

I am a flat titted pear, with thuderthighs and a flat, but large arse. What are these 'hips' that people keep mentioning please? Grin

Hour glass here too, no way can I ever wear a shift, it makes me look 4 months pregnant. However anything with a waist is slimming.

I'm an apple. From my bra up and my knickers down I'm a goddess. The bit in between is like a wheelbarrow full of porridge.

I suppose the interesting question however is that what has changed so much over the last few decades?

Apparently women have become much more apple shaped - height, bust and hips have increased 2 inches on average but the average waist size have increased by 6 inches.

So, when we are told that excess weight around the middle is even more unhealthy, what needs to change to reverse this?

scampimum I do quality as an hourglass when I'm 2 1/2 stone overweight. When I weight less than that my hips are smaller than by bust and I don't have the 8 to 12 inch deficit between boobs/waist and hips/waist to qualify as an hourglass.

Currently: boobs 45 inches - hips 39 - waist 33. No longer an hourglass just a top heavy triangle shape with a podgy lower tummy.

Ha, I was going to start this thread a few weeks ago! Being an apple is the pits. I was naturally very slim until about 5yrs ago, and since gaining some weight I look like an oak tree: I was always quite square-looking, never actually looked good in a bikini in spite of being tiny, but what hint of shape I had about the waist was immediately swallowed by a humungous jiggly tyre, and I could no longer "create" shape with clothes. I am slowly dieting my way back down to my slim weight, but the jiggly tyre persists, and I know that forever and ever even a small weight loss will make me look like a blob. I would kill for an hourglass shape: my friend's weight can fluctuate by over a stone and make hardly any difference to how she looks, it just plumps up her boobs and bum and leaves her the same shape. I change shape entirely.

Interestingly though, I live in dresses.

I'm an apple but one with small boobs, which in a way is worse - I have the body shape of a toddler! In some ways an apple is better because you can hold your stomach in (but you can't hold your bum in as a pear I suppose) and generally have nice legs but it's just such an unglamorous shape. If I dress up I have the dread fear that I look like Sharon off eastenders...

I think you're a Goblet OP, not an apple. Apples have small boobs.

I never got a single stretch mark with DS though - I think it's because my belly was already fat...

I do have small boobs and narrow hips, so maybe that's why dresses are easier for me. It's no blessing though, as it means any fat on my tummy makes it stick out further than my boobs.

I'm starting to think I have my mum's shape, which is interesting as I've always thought I took after my Dad. Mum is in her 60s and has lovely legs, and from behind looks slim, but her tum sticks out quite far. I wonder what the solution is.

Perhaps both my parents are apples but it doesn't really show on my Dad, being a bloke.

I always thought that too Ooh. A Goblet is a new one on me though! Grin

I'm a rectangle. Can I have a fruity name too?

I'm sure we're all lovely. I do worry for my apple friend as I have read about health risks associated with that shape.
