Or is Dh for not getting checked out

Flumpsnlumpsnstuff · 01/01/2017 23:01

Just that really, my dh feels like his left arm is numb/heavy for the last 2-3 hours with slight pins and needles in hand. He has a tendency to think the worst but normally he won't go to the Drs unless it's really bad but this time he called 111. They got a paramedic to call him back who said our nearest out of hours dr had closed their books but he could be seen 35miles away at another one. They also said he needs to be seen, but hubby is now saying if it gets worse I can take him to A&E but he's not dragging the kid out to drive 35 miles for nothing or to be told they are keeping him there. Part of me thinks he's right but I do think he should just let me take him
Sorry for the essay

He needs to get checked out NOW.. you DC are old enough to be left on their own - please go to A&E NOW !

I speak as an experienced A&E nurse

TheLaundryLady · 02/01/2017 11:25

Just seen your update - hope all is ok

Miserylovescompany2 · 02/01/2017 11:28

The ECG should pick up any abdomalities. He's in the right place OP. He isn't wasting resources. I hope you both get some answers soon...

RandomMess · 02/01/2017 11:29

Hope everything is ok!

PersonalClown · 02/01/2017 11:35

Kick his arse for me.
I argued with my dad when he was complaining of indigestion and numb arm for 2 days. He ignored me as usual. 'It's not that bad, I'll be fine'

Massive heart attack killed him on the 3rd day. He was 56.
It's been nearly 2 years and I still sway between anger for him not listening to me and guilt from me not getting him to listen to me.

It probably will be nothing but its better safe than sorry.

blueskyinmarch · 02/01/2017 11:43

I am sure he is not time wasting. If it turns out to be nothing then you can go home and rest at ease. Better then waiting it out then the worst happens.

Flumpsnlumpsnstuff · 02/01/2017 11:48

eLG is pretty much ok ? Not sure what that means they really struggled to get bloods and have told him not to leave until they are back and seen dr

Mooey89 · 02/01/2017 11:52

Hope all is ok OP

PurpleDaisies · 02/01/2017 11:52

Struggling to get bloods doesn't mean anything. Some people are just more tricky to get blood from than others. It's good news the ecg is normal. He'll need to be examined to check there's nothing else going on and to try and identify the cause if the numbness.

Struggling to get bloods is possibly related to low blood pressure. Or he's just hard to get bloods from. Or dehydrated?

A pretty normal ECG sounds like a good thing though.

QODRestYeMerryGentlemen · 02/01/2017 12:04

Hope he's ok

queenrollo · 02/01/2017 12:09

You really need to wait out the bloods. My husband had a completely normal ECG from the moment the ambulance arrived, right the way through 72hr monitoring. But he had the trop T in his blood so had definitely had a cardiac event.
I don't want to worry you, but just want to make sure your husband waits out the bloods. My DH had low pressure when they took him in and they struggled to get bloods from him too at first.

Italiangreyhound · 02/01/2017 12:10

personalclown that is so terrible, please do not feel guilty. I know easier said than done.

He made his own choice and paid the price.

I never understand the wait and see brigade. If it's good news you have unnecessary anxiety, if bad you have to live with consequence; or force your loved ones to live with that consequence. Please think of it as his mistake, because it was.

Miserylovescompany2 · 02/01/2017 12:13

My veins do a disappearing act when needles are produced! Hopefully, the bloods come back soon?

At least ECG was ok, that's one down.

bumbleymummy · 02/01/2017 12:16

Hope you get the results back soon.

Flumpsnlumpsnstuff · 02/01/2017 12:25

Still sat waiting, the NHS staff are run ragged , amazing what some people are here with, entire family seem to be here for earache Hmm

The waiting is so hard. How long have you been there? When my husband breached the 4 hour rule he was moved into the Acute Medical Unit which at least was a calmer environment than the A&E dept. Hope they have some news for you soon.

onedayimightforget · 02/01/2017 12:33

To be fair, some people are in A&E not through their own choice, not that it's somewhere anyone would choose to be but you know what I mean. Recently we had a routine appointment for DD with the asthma nurse and in the appointment she observed that she was working harder to breathe (she was getting over a chest infection). She wanted a doctor to check her over but the doctor was tied up so said we'd have to go to A&E. The asthma nurse took us to A&E, signed us in and we sat for 4 hours while DD played with all the toys and I felt like a massive fraud! It easily could have been dealt with by the GP but when a nurse has taken you there what are you supposed to do.

Anyway, I hope your DH is okay and you don't have to wait too much longer.

OhDeareyMe · 02/01/2017 12:35

Good luck, hope it's nothing serious

Ineverpromisedyouarosegarden · 02/01/2017 12:40

It does take 3-4 hours for those bloods to come back so go and get a sandwich you are not likely to be leaving soon.

Flowershope it is all fine.

rainbowstardrops · 02/01/2017 12:45

Hope he's ok and it turns out to be nothing much.
I figure someone always needs to be seen if everytime they get a cold it's the flu or every headache is a migraine but when it's actually something potentially serious then they say they don't want to fuss. He's scared.

Italiangreyhound · 02/01/2017 12:52

OP glad you got him there. I would complain about the nurse, so irresponsible. Earache can be excruciating. The worst pain except childbirth. In a par with toothache. Don't worry about time wasters.

canyou · 02/01/2017 12:53

I am glad ye are in A&E. I hope all will be ok. I am another one with a Dad who died from a heart attack, while he was at work with 6 other paramedics. Symptoms can be mild and fear can lead to denial. Dad was diagnosied with a 'cold in his kidneys' by collegues. Hmm

Miserylovescompany2 · 02/01/2017 12:55

Go and get yourself a drink and something to eat. Unless you've been told otherwise it should be ok for your DH to eat. You've probably got a long wait ahead of you. Even when the bloods come back, depending on the results? You might be waiting for a doctor to deliver said results?

Some blood test take longer than others also. I had some blood results back within an hour. They were for potassium levels which I had a long history of low levels. So bloods were fast tracked.

You'll soon find out if anything is detected...
