Or is Dh for not getting checked out

Flumpsnlumpsnstuff · 01/01/2017 23:01

Just that really, my dh feels like his left arm is numb/heavy for the last 2-3 hours with slight pins and needles in hand. He has a tendency to think the worst but normally he won't go to the Drs unless it's really bad but this time he called 111. They got a paramedic to call him back who said our nearest out of hours dr had closed their books but he could be seen 35miles away at another one. They also said he needs to be seen, but hubby is now saying if it gets worse I can take him to A&E but he's not dragging the kid out to drive 35 miles for nothing or to be told they are keeping him there. Part of me thinks he's right but I do think he should just let me take him
Sorry for the essay

Not wanting to go to hospital in case they keep him in is bonkers!

Flumpsnlumpsnstuff · 01/01/2017 23:45

Yes Iggi he's taken more lanzoprozole ?
We live In the sticks so definitely not leaving the dd's ( lots of night break ins lately ) I have decided if he won't go to wait and see if he gets any worse I'll drop kids at my dbro' s on the way to A&E if I need to but right now I'm going to go try and talk some sense into him more likely end up staring at him all night till he cracks and go to bed I think sleep is going to be in short supply tonight. Thank you all once again.
Oh and happy bloody new year Confused

Drive him to A&E and leave the kids at home with access to a phone and strict instructions on not opening door/cooking/etc.

Surely trapped wind isn't causing arm troubles? So if he has chest/stomach pain as well as left arm, he definitely needs to be checked out.

I imagine he's refusing to go because he's anxious about what the drs might say, so I would do whatever I could to "comfort" him, e.g. driving him myself if that's the only way to make him agree.

TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN · 01/01/2017 23:46

If he's feeling any chest pain, even if it feels like mild indigestion then take him, even if you have to take him to A&E to get him to go.

My Dad died of a Heart Attack. The one that killed him was massive. However, when they did the autopsy they said he'd had several in the past & that he probably put them down to indigestion. Had he not, he might have had stents or something put in & still be here.

Ask him if he wants his children to lose their Dad for the sake of getting it checked out 😕

SheSparkles · 01/01/2017 23:47

I wonder if he's scared? If he tends to up the ante of a headache to a migraine etc, but this time he does have real unexplained pain and he's scared it actually is something series this time?

Flumpsnlumpsnstuff · 01/01/2017 23:47

Millions I didn't say I married him for his brains Grin

millymollymandy82 · 01/01/2017 23:49

Oh god, men are all the same. He'll probably sleep soundly and say he's fine in the morning, while you worry yourself silly all night.

LavenderRains · 01/01/2017 23:50

DD's friends dad had indigestion and arm pain for a whole day. He vowed to go to the Dr the next morning, but they found him dead in bed. Had a massive heart attack aged 55 Sad get it checked!!

Benedikte2 · 01/01/2017 23:58

Could be hiatus hernia. I had these symptoms, was by myself and rang 111 and they sent an ambulance . They insisted on taking me to hospital and kept me in overnight. It is just so hard to tell if it's the heart or not and its not worth taking the risk that it isn't. Good luck OP.

WorraLiberty · 02/01/2017 00:02

No they're not.

PurpleDaisies · 02/01/2017 00:06

I agree with worra-men most definitely aren't all the same. Most sensible people on being told to see a doctor tonight actually do it.

The likelihood is it's nothing to worry about but if it is something serious that isn't treated early the consequences are awful.

TheClaws · 02/01/2017 00:08

My DH came home from work one day 'feeling weird'. He had pains in his shoulder and was nauseated and tired. He was so tired, in fact, he'd had to pull over on his way home and rest on the side of the road. He laid on the couch - very unusual for him - and said he'd rest it off. I had to take my DS to sport training but I told my DD to keep an eye on him, and I told DH to call an ambulance if he felt worse.

While I was out, he went to hospital with a massive heart attack. If he'd ignored it, to let me ignore it, he wouldn't be here today. Please just get it checked.

Atenco · 02/01/2017 00:22

Total madness to not use an A&E service paid for out of your taxes while trying to get a diagnosis over the internet.

OP, take your husband to A&E and hope and pray that you are wasting their hard-pressed services, that is what the place is for.

QuodPeriitPeriit · 02/01/2017 00:31

Numb/heavy left arm plus chest pain (implied by taking extra lansoperazole) means he needs to go to A & E to exclude cardiac problems (and I NEVER say go to A & E on these threads).

Italiangreyhound · 02/01/2017 00:37

Flumpsnlumpsnstuff are you thinking possible heart attack?

My father had one a couple of years back. Did nothing, like you do, it has made things worse than they were. I love him to bits but I am angry he never got to a hospital.

My own father died of a heart attach.

Another time before that he was having a really funny turn and would not let my mum call an ambulance.

In your shoes I would put the kids in the car, bundled up and with Ipads etc for company, do not leave them alone at night they are too young.

And tell your dh you and they are waiting for him to do what 111 said.

If he has gone to bed switch on all the lights in the room and make it clear you mean business.

My grandfather also died of a heart attack. He was 59.

Please do not take this all lightly, if it is nothing you can drive back and celebrate.

Italiangreyhound · 02/01/2017 00:38

My father in-law had one a couple of years back.

Flumpsnlumpsnstuff · 02/01/2017 00:56

Hi sorry I'm still trying to talk sense to him without getting him worked up too much.
To answer some questions: no im not looking for a online diagnosis, just support.
He's now admitted he didn't take his lanzoprazole today and won't take it now as it won't work ( his words)
I'm not really thinking heart attack but there is a lot of angina in the family brother and dmil.
He's adamant he's not going tonight, I've turned on the lights and threatened everything I can I'll play u2 at the funeral ( jk)
So we are going to bed so I can watch him breathe all night

Is he sweaty at all, op? Feeling nauseous? I am usually exasperated by the get to A and E advice often given on here, but the arm thing does sound concerning, and I think a little tickle on a monitor wouldn't go amiss. If it's nothing, it's nothing but heart attacks are funny things and quite often don't prance in terribly obviously.

Good luck. We had to go against my dad's wishes years ago and call an ambo as he was such a mess. Men!

AtSea1979 · 02/01/2017 01:19

iggi you would leave your 9 year old home alone overnight and drive 35 miles away? Hmm

Baylisiana · 02/01/2017 01:55

He is a bloody idiot, and that is being kind. I realise you don't want to get him worked up now but at some point assuming this all gets sorted you should read him the RIOT act about this attitude.

Italiangreyhound · 02/01/2017 02:06

Flumpsnlumpsnstuff I am sorry your husband is a stupid idiot. I hope he is fine. I am sorry he is treating you like this.

I forgot to say I have been checked out for heart problems, including an ambulance ride at 6.30 a.m. and so has my dh!

I don't think my dh would have gone with the paramedics if his own dad had not had a heart incident the year before!

Italiangreyhound · 02/01/2017 02:10

A 9 year old alone at night worrying because their parents have gone the hospital. Not kind at all. Yes, I know it did not happen but just the thought of it!

MsMarvel · 02/01/2017 02:12

If he's usually one to downplay health issues but is concerned enough about this to phone 111 then I would take him to a and e. Speaking as someone who's do downplays everything and has recently uncovered longstanding death issue that should have got dealt with a while ago, but he never mentioned it.

YNK · 02/01/2017 02:17

PPI's (stomach meds) can cause pernicious anaemia.
He needs GP to do blood test for B12, folate, ferritin, fbc and full thyroid panel.

Heart attack until proven otherwise. A&E now.
