To be annoyed that the DSs' school is banning buggies from being brought inside?

Buggies are to be left in the shelter in the playground, and not brought into the school.

Presumably parents are meant to take their younger child or children out of the buggy and carry or walk them into the school.

Really impracticable, if you ask me. For example, DS3 is 2.7 so he can walk, but he will not get out of the buggy in situations where he feels uncomfortable, or doesn't know where he is. What is DH supposed to do, leave him out in the playground in the dark?

DS1's nursery did this - makes perfect sense - it became much quicker, easier and SAFER to collect DS1 from nursery (with DS2 tucked under my arm) without having to negotiate round 30 buggies inside the building.

It's a pain in the bum but I assume they have a reason for it - have they said what it is? I know it's not ideal, but why would ds3 not know where he is - presumably he's with your dh for school pick up regularly?

surely if you have been taking ds3 to pick up your other children then he will have got used to the school by now

if not then you will just have to carry him

Makes sense to me, much safer than having loads of buggies in the school.

Our school is the same (except there's no shelter to leave buggies in, so you just have to leave them outside). Annoying, but it makes sense.

At ds1's school they are allowed inside but not in the classrooms. Not that it stops some parents from taking them in anyway. I carry dd in with me.(Parents are encouraged to go into the classrooms in the mornings).

sorry I'm curious - why is it "in the dark"??? Surely apart from right in the depths of winter it's light when you're picking children up from school?????

It's only an issue on the two days a week the DSs go to after-school club - when it is dark by collection time.

And anyone who thinks that you can carry my DS3 when he doesn't want to be carried should try it!

not dark now at pick up and drop off time and anyway, tell ds3 to get out of the buggy. surely he knows the place by now and realistically should be able to be told he must get out of the pushchair when you need him to

wish our school would do this.i leave mine outside or use sling .much safter and wouldnt take an hour to climb over buggies before bell goes!

is he SN??

if not then he may not be able to talk much but probably understands ALOT more than you think

Yes.

If you feel that your child is a special case due to his SN then make that point to the head and ask for an exception to be made due to his SN. But I would expect the majority of schools to not permit buggies inside just ont he grounds of H&S.

Dino, it's the first i've heard of this and I blinking work there!!

I can imagine why they've done it though, however if you or your DH talks to JB I bet she'll sort it for DS3.

Right, I must get on with my planning, or my class will learn nothing after half term, buggies or no buggies.

Although, if we banned all the children from coming inside as well....

It was in the newssheet on Friday, doddle.

I will speak to Jane. Otherwise Anna can look after him herself - she'll find that a bit more challenging than having lunch with Prince Charles though .

If when ds was small I was not able to take the buggy inside when he had fallen asleep etc to collect dd htey would have had to have brought her out to me

No idea what would have happened as they have no problem with pushcairs or prams but I would not have left a buggy outside for anyone.

I'd definitely speak to someone about making an exception for your ds3. It's not as though you can explain to him why he has to get out or stay behind.

Not allowed at ds's school - always a lot of babies left outside! I Sometimes forgot in a hurry and charged in with dd. I suspect they will make an exception for you on after school club nights.

I can't picture your school.

Are you saying at the moment you bring buggies into the school building?

And if so why? Do your childrens' classrooms not have an outside door? If not, surely the teacher should bring the children out to the playground?

I can't imagine the chaos and safety issues of buggies in school.

Please enlighten me. I'm not trying to be antagonistic by the way.
