IIRC, Helen McRory (sp?) did get the part but then became pregnant and I think didn't want to commit to such a big role so she took on Narcissa Malfoy instead

I was thrilled when I first heard HBC was going to play Bellatrix, but always thought her performance was too cartoonish and not menacing enough.

Love Bellatrix. I think HBC plays her perfectly; deranged and creepy, just like she should be.

I liked her as Anne Boleyn in the TV adaptation of Henry VIII... other than that, you're right. Always a shouty gothic crazy.

I don't like HBC at all, but I think she plays Bellatrix very well. I particularly like the scene where she is supposed to be Hermione using pollyjuice potion. I think she does that perfectly.

I do wonder how much work she would've had if she hadn't been with Tim Burton for all those years.
