All I have for Christmas lunch is a bottle of Cointreau

Not that I'm panicking but Asda just called to say their delivery van has broken down and even if they could deliver EVERYTHING I need from Christmas lunch, they had aready run out of potatoes, goose fat and stuffing. Great. So I have nothing but a turkey crown. Fortunately mother-in-law phoned earlier asking if she should bring a bottle of Cointreau. Yes that will go nicely with the Chinese takeaway we will be having. I know elderly inlaws always complain "there is too much on their plate" but even they will want more than a bit of meat. Christmas is ruined. AIBU to begin a relentless campaign against Asda #panicking #atleastwehavecointreau

No idea where in Fife you are, but we found Tesco & Aldi in Cupar well stocked last Christmas Eve (we had a frozen pea crisis!)

Wellknackered I wish I'd watched that episode of Ready Steady Cook "yes Ainsley I going to make a Christmas dinner with just a turkey crown and a bottle of Cointreau"

I don't get this-there will be a supermarket with things. You don't have to make dinner with a turkey crown and Cointreau.

HarrietVane99 · 23/12/2016 23:28

Anyone else now thinking of the Cointreau Christmas ads from years ago, with Catherine and her French bloke?

Fifemum8 · 23/12/2016 23:31

Husband has phoned from Tesco (still open) with a list of potatoe varieties #buyanypotatoes #damnyouAsda

Ha ha ha! I'm from Glasgow too fifemum but have been living down south for ten years so am now a lightweight drinker (and also can't handle Scottish weather anymore either).

I was in waitrose and M&S today and they had loads of stuff. To the degree that I started wondering why I even bothered with an online pre-order as I'd have been able to get everything we needed in store today.

I'm off to look up Cointreau and tequila cocktails. Don't know about anyone else, but I'm going to need to get drunk to make it through Xmas day with the in-laws...

DeepanKrispanEven · 23/12/2016 23:34

Get to the supermarket early, they will be restocking overnight. I saw a massive Tesco lorry fighting through the traffic this evening.

PipersPiping · 23/12/2016 23:35

Our local asda had run out if cauliflower and broccoli when I went today. So now I'm going to have to go look for some tomorrow. Damn you asda!!

trentin · 23/12/2016 23:36

See you have found some but if for any reason DH not allowed to actually buy them by officious supermarket staff you could try out this place

www.eastergrangemuir.co.uk/crops/potatoes.html

They say they have them 12 months of the year.

QueenMortificado · 23/12/2016 23:39

I know its traditional blah blah blah but as I get older the less I can be fucked with spending eleventy bajillion hours cooking a roast dinner

A local Indian restaurant then home to get well lubricated with Cointreau and board games sounds ace

Iggity · 23/12/2016 23:42

I haven't even started my food shopping yet. Planned for early tomorrow morning. No biggie.

Fifemum8 · 23/12/2016 23:43

DH has saved Christmas

On a less helpful note Asda seem to have come out awfully this year in terms of delivery!!

Madhouse05 · 23/12/2016 23:45

Did they not offer you any compensation?! Sainsburys had a disaster on me 2years ago (they had a systems melt down that 'lost' my shop/delivery slot the night before delivery (day before Christmas Eve)) and gave me £100 to spend in store in recompense (I do use them week in week out so from records prob wanted to keep me on side) - I was at my closest store at 7:30 the following morning and got everything I needed (they do keep more stock in store than 'saved' for delivery I think). Anyway, point is - shops will be open first thing tomorrow so get there, you'll be surprised how much they have and b. Ask Asda what they're going to do to secure your future customer loyalty?!

BantyCustards · 23/12/2016 23:49

Step 1) Sieze bottle of Cointreau
Step 2) Find room with lockable door
Step 3) Sequester bottle of Cointreau in requisitioned room
Step 4) If former mentioned room has no TV plus satellite/cable plus DVD player either a) find a different room with required technology and lockable door or b) install necessary technology post haste
Step 5) Puck out favourite box sets and install in prepared room
Step 5) Puck out favourite snacks and drinks and install in aforementioned room
Step 6) Lock self in room for the duration.

Thank you everyone for talking me down from the ledge of panic. Asda driver just called - apparently store manager will now bring shopping in his car!

Unspecified 'white potatoes' are liable to not to roast well, ime, I'd go with the Aunt Bessies unless you have time to try them out tomorrow. But well done your DH!

TheMortificadosDragon · 24/12/2016 00:05

Oh! Doubly saved! Xmas Grin

Farmmummy · 24/12/2016 00:14

And this is why you should support your local farmers and farm shop

TheMortificadosDragon · 24/12/2016 00:27

My farm shop never has good roasting spuds. Great meat, other veg ok but have to go (miles) to the supermarket for a King Edward.

Fifemum8 · 24/12/2016 00:36

I think I'm going to grow my own next year - are King Edwards the best for roasting then?

OP posts:
Allalonenow · 24/12/2016 00:45

Yes King Eddies make great roasties!
Last year Sainsbury's brought me a bag of four sprouts saying they were all they had left! Xmas Grin

TheMortificadosDragon · 24/12/2016 07:25

Thats four sprouts too many imoGrin
