To ask what the hell have they done to Quality Streets?

Even the Purple One, tasteless, how? Why? When? And what can I eat instead?

I think Roses and Quality Street have always been poor quality chocolate. It's just nostalgia for childhood when we were less fussy about our chocolate.

VanillaSugarAndChristmasSpice · 23/12/2016 21:25

Chocolate Oranges have also gone Meh. But you've reminded me, I bought some Hotel Chocolat whisky truffles and hid them in my knicker drawer so that I wouldn't eat them before Christmas. ... And now it's Christmas! !

likepeasandcarrots · 23/12/2016 21:25

1004Rise yep, right underneath! And the new wrappers are all a bit similar and of course not identifiable as the old ones were so you have to keep lifting the bloody tub up to check!
I thought I'd got a caramel and ended up with a 'Brazilian darkness' eurgh dark chocolate Confused

I nearly fainted...

Roses used to have a lovely soft caramel in the shape of a barrel, Caramel Keg or something it was called. They were my absolute favourite. I have just opened a box this year and the caramel keg tastes awful, it is sickly and I can't even detect the taste of caramel, it just tastes of brown sweet mush. It is not like its cheap either, £5 a plastic tub. No thanks. I will check out the Lidl chocolate as some on here have recommended it.

Gingerbreath · 23/12/2016 21:34

Sainsburys selection tub or the big selection box that M&S do for £5 are much better.

I second this. The sainsburys tub is lovely! I bought them for gifts this year instead of roses/QS as they're miles better. I think my aunt is addicted to them now Smile

Marcipex · 23/12/2016 22:29

snuggly I predict you won't be happy when you try the coffee ones. They are coffee mushy slime Sad

RedNoseRumble · 23/12/2016 22:36

I still love Quality Street, Orange & strawberry creams are my favourite and still taste lovely.

I'll never give up on them

babychamcherryb · 23/12/2016 22:37

Chucked most of a box of quality street in the bin. Total shite.

bedouincheek · 23/12/2016 23:00

Palm oil and the fact they introduced the (dreaded) orange cream, means not only does it taste shit, but it's 'orange scented' too.

RebelandaStunner · 23/12/2016 23:37

Didn't bother with quality street this year as there were remnants of them for ages after last Christmas.
We have bought a small box of heroes and celebrations. They're in the cupboard still pretty full. Nobody has hardly touched them. The Lindor ones and chocolate orange have been demolished though.
I used to love orange matchmakers but they taste so oily now.

OzzieFem · 24/12/2016 07:10

They have got rid of the Toffee Deluxe, my favorite and replaced it with a cheap Honeycomb Crunch! Arggh!

Stopped buying Cadbury Roses years ago as they had removed the good ones.

RebootYourEngine · 24/12/2016 07:22

I am going to have to disagree about the sainsbury ones. They are vile, worse than the Quality Streets and im no fan of Quality Streets.

coffeetasteslikeshit · 24/12/2016 07:33

Went to buy our Quality Street yesterday and Asda had sold out, leaving only Roses. I was just about to put them in my basket when I noticed the wrapper change and decided that I'd had enough of them messing with them and so put them back. Looks like I did the right thing!
I ended up with mint matchmakers instead.

alotlikeChristmas16 · 24/12/2016 07:46

hotel chocolat is nice but it's so, so expensive for what it is, the shop was absolutely rammed though so plenty of people forking out a fortune on HC. Off to check out Lidl's selection today (what's left)

Serialweightwatcher · 24/12/2016 08:57

Years ago the coffee creams were gorgeous and does anyone remember the square of just chocolate which had the soldier and lady on the wrapper? I used to snaffle a couple of handfuls, put them in a freezer bag and go up to my bedroom for a feast when I was a child .... those were the days!

VanillaSugarAndChristmasSpice · 24/12/2016 09:08

I watched channel 5 programme about the eat Christmas adverts ever and a tub of Quality Street was £5 in 1983 when Woolworths was still around...

This is why today's chocolate is so shit. If the chocolate quality improved, would we fork out £10 for a tub of proper sweets? I think we would .... £10 of deliciousness is better value than £5 that goes in the bin.

VanillaSugarAndChristmasSpice · 24/12/2016 09:08

eat???? BEST!!!!!

Godiva Belgium chocolates are the way to go

BigcatLittlecat · 24/12/2016 09:18

I've bought a Sainsburys tub on the recommendation of PP. Roses are awful now they even get left in the staffroom at work!

CigarsofthePharoahs · 24/12/2016 09:22

Well I much prefer the Sainsburys ones to "Quality" Street. Yes, they are cheap chocolate but they are good for the price. Plenty of toffees, none of the pointless green triangles and my children have been fighting over who gets to have the popping candy one!
They've also sensibly written on every wrapper what the sweets are!
I think my favourite is the double chocolate éclair.

Pigflewpast · 24/12/2016 12:49

Sent DH to Sainsburys on all your recommendations. He may be some time judging by his text about car park! They'd better be worth it, though at least it's given me a break from pretending to look busy.
cigars the green triangles were the best after the Purple One ( has to have capitals as was so good)

I concur that Sainsburys one is the best for the money. I got my Dad to bring over two boxes for me to munch on once I get back from our trip.
