I ordered a Cath Kidston make up bag from a seller on eBay (because it is sold out, not because it was cheaper from there). It is a gift for my son's gf. It's arrived today and it is plainly not the same bag as in the photo. There are images of Mickey and Minnie all over, the picture on eBay shows one of these images in a prominent position right side up. The bag I received has all of the images either upside down or sideways, and the material seems to have been cut in such a way that the print is not displayed well iyswim? I wouldn't buy that one if I saw it in a shop, to me it looks like a second.

I have messaged the seller to express my displeasure and ask her what she is going to do about it. Thing is I'm not going to get the right one in time for Christmas now Angry

AIBU? DH doesn't seem to see the problem but to me the item looks wrong and I won't feel good about giving it now. What should I ask the seller to do? I can't afford to buy another while I wait for the original to get to the seller and be refunded (it cost £26).

This is the photo from ebay.

I agree, it looks odd/second. I just Googled other patterns, their Winnie the Pooh pattern has him at all angles too.

OurBlanche · 22/12/2016 16:48

They print the patterns all ways up so it doesn't matter where you place the pattern - saves a hell of a lot of fabric.

I don't like it and choose to us more of a fabric with a 1 way up pattern, that and I don't like Kath Kidstone stuff anyway!

But the pattern placement itself isn't an issue.

Is there anything else about it, Gladys ? It's hard to tell as the ebay picture is flat and yours is not!

TheSlaughterOfHerodificado · 22/12/2016 16:50

Bodged up overpriced crap, from the look of it.

Pretty much sums up Cath Kids.

TWOBANANAS · 22/12/2016 16:51

It's not the same bag as in the photo.

expatinscotland · 22/12/2016 16:54

Think it's a fake, tbh.

BeaveredBadgered · 22/12/2016 16:56

Looks like a fake to me too. Agree it's not quite right.

OurBlanche · 22/12/2016 16:58

Well, it isn't the same bag... the Kath Kidstone tape shows that - placement of the white heart to the left is obviously different.

But that's not the same as it being fake! The seller could have had 2! Grin

happychristmasbum · 22/12/2016 16:58

I think it's just that the photo is a stock photo and the bags themselves are all slightly different as cut randomly.

I would just give it and not worry about it tbh.

pipsqueak25 · 22/12/2016 16:59

cath kidson is rather over rated, so i guess that's why it wouldn't bother me.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/12/2016 17:03

It's said that about 90% of "designer" stuff on ebay is fake, so there's a pretty good chance this is too. No doubt ebay try to discourage it but the market's just so big, with sellers using a stock photo of the real item for the listing and sending out something different

At least you're guaranteed to win the case if you want to send it back ...

PlumsGalore · 22/12/2016 17:07

| think its a fake. DD bought a fake overnight Cath Kidston bag from Kuala Lumpa years ago, it is a)still going strong and b)practically identical to an original.

Yes, she shouldn't have bought it but she was about 12 and I thought it would drop to bits in no time. The point I am making is the seller could have bought dozens of these on holiday to sell at this time for a large profit. Raise a PayPal dispute.

diddl · 22/12/2016 17:10

Did it have the Mickey Mouse label on?

PlumsGalore · 22/12/2016 17:11

She might have nicked the photos from somewhere else online? I do this sometimes when I am too lazy to faff about photographing my own Ebay items

Naughty! I once went on ebay and saw a BMX ramp for sale, my bmx ramp, in my garden, with my car in the background. I had sold my ramp three weeks before. Emailed the cheeky feckers and told them to take the picture of my things down.

CryingShame · 22/12/2016 17:16

The Mickey and Minnie under the logo on the ebay photo are the right way up, on your bag they are upside down. The photo from eBay is not of your item.

You could send it back as it's not the same item as in the photo, but you wouldn't get a replacement before Xmas and they may never have had / no longer have the bag from the original photo. How much is it a problem - would the GF notice?

KnittedBlanketHoles · 22/12/2016 17:20

The photo is not the same as they one you have received but I think you will bet fine giving the gf they one you have. She'll like it if she likes Catherine K and that design, so panic not.

likepeasandcarrots · 22/12/2016 17:23

I would say she has more than one for sale and is just using a pic of one of them to sell them imo.
They are obviously all going to be different with the placement of the motifs.

Brankolium · 22/12/2016 17:37

It's not the same bag.

But unless it's obviously fake I can't see that it will have any bearing on whether the recipient will like it or not. I'd just give her this one and save yourself the headache.

GladysKravitz · 22/12/2016 17:47

Thankyou for all your replies, they have been very helpful.

I looked at the seller's history and she has sold at least two of these before. She has a 100% rating and sells a lot of CK stuff (which I agree is overpriced cack but DS gf loves it). She has apologised and offered a refund, and says she used the same photo of another bag that she sold. diddl yes it does have the Mickey Mouse label on.

I think I will just have to give it and hope DS gf isn't as picky as me! I would hate her to think I have bought a second or a fake. I am fussy about prints and once I noticed they're all upside down I can't unsee it, so I am encouraged that some of you think it looks ok/the same.

I am considering whether to request a partial refund.

OP posts:
TheInternetIsForPorn · 22/12/2016 18:00

It's upside down on the actual cath kidston website. It's obviously just the design of the print. The act it's not the exact same item as the photo doesn't mean it's a fake or a knock off. I think you're massively overreacting

likepeasandcarrots · 22/12/2016 19:43

I don't think asking for a partial refund is very fair. It's a brand new print that was only released at the start of December so it's unlikely to be fake. No two bags from CK are the same due to the placement of the motifs and patterns.
I agree you have made this into a way bigger issue than it is. If you had ordered from the CK website you wouldn't get the one in the stock photo so the pattern would be different again.
If the lady loves CK she will be pleased with it.

ButteredToastAndStrawberryJam · 22/12/2016 19:45

She'll love it you see, It's just the way their designs are by the looks of it.

OurBlanche · 23/12/2016 08:53

You can't ask for a partial refund because you don't like the print! That is how the bloody thing was designed! YABVVU to even consider it!

She was being VR to offer a refund in the first place, if her goods are real, as they seem to be!

SausageSoda · 23/12/2016 09:41

You either return and asks for a full refund or you keep and give to girlfriend and ask for no refund. If you don't think it's fake, asking for a partial refund seems cheeky to me. They are sold like that on Cath Kidson website and they wouldn't give you a partial refund just because the pattern bugged you!

GladysKravitz · 31/12/2016 11:25

Update

She was over the moon with the bag and didn't notice anything wrong. Thanks to all who replied Smile
