I was looking for one of those wedding fund money box and came across a couple who are asking for bids for there wedding. I thought it was sweet dh doesn't agree. Don't get me wrong I have never really seen anything like this before. So not really a aibu? But is this a normal thing and I am just out of the loop?

I want to know what you 'win'. Do you get to the guest of honour or something Confused

That's just plain and simple greedy, grabbing and possibly a bit desperate. I don't agree with asking other people to help fund anything (things like gift registries for weddings- you should invite people because you want them there not for a present. Baby showers- you should buy for your own baby, and if people want to see you they can still come, no need to arrange a party where presents are usually standard. And things like bring a bottle to a party, you host, you pay and provide).
That's just my opinion. I'll probably be shot for that.

I've seen enough 'polite/cute/friendly' ways of asking for money (most of which are ridiculous and awful) that this just strikes me as stupid. They obviously don't realise how eBay works. If there were even two people who wanted to donate only one can win the auction!

Starting to hate the word "grabby" on Mumsnet. If they can't afford a wedding and people are willing to give them money they why is it anyone's business? You don't like it? Well don't give them money then.

I don't have any issues with someone starting a Crowdfunder like Justgiving or Gofundme to raise the cash. Wouldn't be my choice but each to their own.

In this case though, Ebay is not an appropriate forum to do this. It's an auction website. The seller is not selling anything and no-one can "win" the auction.

Ebay page seems to have disappeared now though. Which would be rather co-incidental. Confused
