to ask what you have bought your sister for Christmas....haven't got a clue

My sister is 44 and we have nothing in common at all. She has no children, lives with my parents, no hobbies. Spent most of her early adulthood going off the rails and we have grown apart (but get on superficially). I want to get her something nice as appreciate her situation is not great but am at a loss. Going shopping later. Want to spend up to £30,

OP posts:

Oh and a cocktail growing plant kit with a cocktail recipe book

LEELULUMPKIN · 22/12/2016 09:27

A tin of Pek. It resurfaces every year and is always hidden in different boxes, tins or bags. This year I have put it in a massive box that my new dining table came in, weighted very heavily down with bricks! I will get it back in return next year.

Jydel · 22/12/2016 09:28

I have a brother who sounds similar and I give him cash.

dollydaydream114 · 22/12/2016 09:28

My sister and I don't really buy each other presents any more - we stopped one year when we were both skint and didn't see each other at Christmas for geographical reasons. These days we sometimes see each other on Christmas Eve or Boxing Day but it's usually just a case of bringing a token gift for whichever of us is hosting - just chocolates or a candle or something like that.

When we did buy things for each other I got her books I knew she'd like, DVDs of obscure films/TV from our childhood, accessories like scarves or jewellery, things for her home with unusual designs I knew would appeal to her, etc. The presents I got from her were pretty similar. We are very unalike in personality, but there's some overlap in our interests/tastes these days (which wasn't the case when we were younger) so that helps.

AmserGwin · 22/12/2016 09:30

I bought my sister (35) one of these from Debenahms, not this exact one, but there were lots of nice ones there

Debenhams

GeekyWombat · 22/12/2016 09:33

Theatre tickets (we're going together, it's going to be ace) and a bangle that says 'She believed she could so she did' (she's a bit hippier than me!)

Maxwellthecat · 22/12/2016 09:36

I got mine tickets for something she wanted and a scarf. We always ask what the other wants and get that exactly.

EverythingEverywhere1234 · 22/12/2016 09:43

Two sisters;
18 year old DSis; Soap and Glory eyeliner, mascara and eyebrow tint set, perfume I know she likes
25 year old DSis; selection of Body Shop body butters, Body Shop glitter spray, joke colouring book, perfume

SureStartRedemption · 22/12/2016 09:45

I don't have a sister but do buy for my SIL.
I got her some pyjamas and matching slipper socks. Think she liked them, she texted me later to tell me she was wearing them and they fitted perfectly! (We exchanged presents early as we won't see each other over Christmas)

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 22/12/2016 09:47

OP we didn't have much cash this Christmas so my family are getting each other 'gift vouchers' for an experience together.

E.g.: there is a nice new coffee place in town that would be too expensive for us as a day to day thing, but I am getting DH a handmade 'voucher' for me to buy him breakfast there one morning.

In the spring we will visit the city where my sister lives which has a great zoo so we have asked for our present to be a 'voucher' for her to pay our entry as a family.

Esp if you are not so close to your sister, it might be nice to have an experience together like buying her dinner or similar?

Purplebluebird · 22/12/2016 09:47

I actually asked both my sisters what they wished for.
Older sister: a silicone baking sheet (£12] I am broke so it was all Is could afford.
Younger sister: Fabric scissors and a mouse needle cushion. Came to around £10. She is doing a cosplay course at school, and there is a lot of sewing.

jopickles · 22/12/2016 09:48

my sister is 35 and I have bought her a nerf crossbow! also a giraffe zookeeper experience and a few other bits and bobs

RatOnnaStick · 22/12/2016 09:50

She bought us good red wine and we cooked her steak. We had it all one night a couple of weekends ago. Job done. No faffing with actual presents.

MrsGsnow18 · 22/12/2016 09:52

I've bought mine a skirt, she did tell me that she loved it which helped. I also bought her a top to match and a book.
What about a voucher for something you could do together?
Nail voucher? Afternoon tea? Tickets to something?

mylittlephoney · 22/12/2016 09:52

My sister and I don't do presents as it gets too expensive with the kids and all. But this year we've done the charity shop challenge. You have a budget if £3 to find the most tacky awful funny thing in a charity shop. Much hilarity ensues on Christmas day. When it's over you donate it back.

crazyspaniellady · 22/12/2016 09:52

I don't have a sister, but my SIL is as close as I'll ever get and I admittedly went VERY overboard on her christmas! I bought her hunter wellies and welly socks (they've recently rescued a dog so now she's out in all weathers and her wellies were dying a death), a few bits and pieces of makeup that'll hopefully arrive by saturday as they're from the states, and I'm paying for us both to get our nails done between christmas and new year.
You could always get her a voucher to get her nails done/massage something like that and maybe a few minis (gin, vodka etc) I know that where I live you can get Edinburgh Gin minis and other "posh" spirit minis in the supermarket

Wifflewaffles · 22/12/2016 09:52

Got sils Lush vouchers and Suicide squad on dvd. It's what they asked for.

DeadMorose · 22/12/2016 09:55

Handbag for both. Although the 30 year old gets big black leather tote and 20 year old gets a funky Nahui Ollin wristlet. Hopefully they both like them.

TheLivingAsheth · 22/12/2016 09:56

Sister A : £25 voucher for spa
Sister B: Liz Earle cleanser

MrsHouseBrownie · 22/12/2016 09:57

Matching pjs, dressing gown & slippers and a necklace. Cost about £40 I think.

questioningitall · 22/12/2016 09:58

Two sisters. Middle a diptyque candle. Youngest a Joules scarf.

Last year the youngest gave me back the cook book I gave her the year before!

I don't stress about it so much now.

My DM on the other hand is impossible to buy for.

KlingybunFistelvase · 22/12/2016 09:59

My Dsister loves animals, so I've bought her an 'adopt an elephant' through WWF, some Xmas socks and I'm going to get her some restaurant vouchers for a nice veggie restaurant where she lives. Trying to cut down on the amount of useless tat I give at Xmas so think this is all pretty useful stuff.

PizzaPlease · 22/12/2016 10:08

When I'm not sure what to buy someone I buy them a Yankee candle!

MrsLouisTomlinson · 22/12/2016 10:10

One of those candles that melts and has a piece of jewellery inside and one of those 'books of everything' advertised on Facebook.
