To be worried about lack of pregnancy symptoms?

I'm 6 + 6 with my first baby at the age of 37. DH and I are so happy but I can't help worrying :( All the books and websites I have read state that I should be experiencing morning sickness by now, but I'm not at all! The only symptoms I have are tiredness and frequent trips to the loo. My breasts don't even seem to be growing that much :( can anyone advise me about whether this is something to be anxious about? I haven't had any scans yet and was planning to do so in the first week of January (I live abroad so the booking in system is a bit different). Help! I'm awake and anxious that there's something wrong with my baby :(

I'm 18 weeks pregnant with my second. Absolutely no morning sickness with either. Just extreme tiredness and lots of loo trips.

I think the morning sickness thing is that high levels of hormones can increase the risk of morning sickness. BUT some people just deal with the hormones better, it's like anything else. Some people get travel sick, some don't, even whe everything else is the same.

I don't seem to do early pregnancy symptoms at all. I hear it's common esp for women with PCOS.

I hadn't heard that, would explain my pregnancy though. Had no idea that I was pregnant until the positive test (we'd been trying for over two years and I had an appointment with a fertility consultant the following day!).

Like you, OP, the lack of symptoms worried me. I got through a LOT of tests, and cried with relief at my 8 week scan. I had occasional periods of nausea between 9 and 12 weeks, but was pretty much symptom free until the third trimester (where I went up three cup sizes and my pelvis went all shonky!)

QueenofLouisiana · 22/12/2016 08:34

I was sick more times in labour than throughout my whole pregnancy (there's a cheering thought, huh?). At 7 weeks I was just a bit tired and had slightly swollen boobs.

My "no early symptoms" baby has just risen from his pit and is rumaging hopefully for chocolates.

I was sick more times in labour than throughout my whole pregnancy

Ha ha, same here. Proper full on projectile vomiting (if I'd known that I was going to go into labour, I wouldn't have had a Chinese buffet that day..l)

Helbel82 · 22/12/2016 09:12

I was one of the lucky ones and had no morning sickness, just a bit of slight nausea occasionally and a lot of tiredness. I'm now almost 28 weeks. Everyone is different and will experience different symptoms, you can't rely on a book to tell you how it will go or what you will experience as there are a while range of symptoms you may or may not get. Good luck!

corythatwas · 22/12/2016 09:26

Another one who has never experienced sickness in pregnancy.

cautiousoptimist1 · 22/12/2016 09:50

I also didn't have any sickness this early. My only symptom at 6 weeks was a ridiculously sensitive sense of smell - I could smell an open bottle of milk across a room and I went right off tea.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, it's the most worrying time but try to enjoy it x

Spanielsarecool1 · 22/12/2016 10:29

I had no sickness or symptoms at all and didn't realise I was pregnant until I was over 10 weeks and I wondered why I couldn't shift the sudden tummy fat!
You would think I would have realised with it a) being baby no 2 b) I'm actually a doctor so should know about these things ;-)
I'm nearly 32 weeks and v definitely feel pregnant now!!

witsender · 22/12/2016 10:39

Bar tiredness, I didn't get any pregnancy symptoms really. I remember feeling queasy/hungover with DC2 on one day, pushing DD round a supermarket...So never a great experience regardless! But don't worry.

MissClimpsonsTypingBureau · 22/12/2016 10:48

YANBU to be worried Flowers

But just wanted to add to the chorus of "you're probably fine" - I'm 29+6 and have been sick a grand total of three times, felt nauseous about weeks 9-11 but not badly. Turns out my mum was never sick with either of her pgs so maybe it runs in families? Also no change in boob size.

Fingers crossed all goes well for you!

bananamonkey · 22/12/2016 11:56

Another one with no sickness, nausea or tiredness, my boobs didn't change till 12 weeks+

I had bleeding at 7 weeks so had an early scan but otherwise it wouldn't have been obvious! Now have a 14 week old! Fingers crossed for you x

PollyCazaletWannabe · 22/12/2016 12:15

Thank you so much - you have all made me feel much better :) some great stories here!

Other than tiredness I had no real symptoms with current 8 month old baby sitting on my lap. Never even really felt much in the way of kicks. Also had several episodes of spotting / bleeding. She's totally fine - symptoms mean nothing. Xxx

Katedotness1963 · 22/12/2016 12:25

I had no symptoms with my first. That's why I got to almost 18 weeks before we found out. Second time I was a bit cleverer and realised about 14 weeks, again no symptoms. No morning sickness, no aches or pains, no tiredness, no sore boobs. Both pregnancies couldn't have been easier and the labours were quick.

usernotfound0000 · 22/12/2016 12:30

I was 8 weeks before I found out and had no symptoms whatsoever. In honestly, I could've made it to about 16 weeks before I would have known I was pregnant, if i'd not seen a baby inside me on the scan.

I spent my whole pregnancy worrying about something as it wasn't what was 'meant' to happen but honestly, try not to do it. And definitely step away from Google. If you can book an early scan I would do this to put your mind at ease.

CatsAndCocktails · 22/12/2016 12:35

With my last pregnancy, I spent the entire time worrying because I didn't have any symptoms at all but she is happily snuggled beside me now and fast asleep. However, my first pregnancy ended in a missed miscarriage and I went from having symptoms to none at all. With my second pregnancy I had mild symptoms throughout.

Having no symptoms in early pregnancy is fairly common, it is just you tend to hear about the awful symptoms some women suffer far more than those they don't. The concern is when you have symptoms and then these stop without any warning before you are around eight or nine weeks pregnant. As you haven't had any symptoms to stop, it sounds like you are just having an easy pregnancy and fingers crossed it continues that way.

Strongmummy · 22/12/2016 12:38

I had horrendous morning sickness and then miscarried. It's a very anxious time, but try and take each day as it comes

Stiddleficks · 22/12/2016 12:42

I had sore boobs with both my pregnancies and that was it in the first few months. Because of irregular periods I had no idea I was pregnant with my 2nd until about 13 weeks. Had mild nausea but the medication I take causes that too so no reason to suspect.

hanban89 · 22/12/2016 12:43

Only one bout of nausea at 8 weeks with DD1, and a little tired but that's it. I was worried but everything was totally fine.
With DD2 was sick from before I knew I was pregnant. Randomly vomited while getting my hair done, then everyday til 20 weeks.
Try not to worry and just feel lucky that your not sick! Good luck Xmas Smile

NotCitrus · 22/12/2016 12:43

I didn't know I was pregnant until 15 weeks, and only had a few days of morning sickness a few weeks later. Epic tiredness though - I though I had flu which was why I went to the GP and they did tests. Luck didn't hold - dc2's pregnancy I had sickness practically from day 1 for four months.

Housewife2010 · 22/12/2016 12:48

I had no symptoms with either of my pregnancies - apart from my bump. You're lucky. Enjoy it.

Mia1415 · 22/12/2016 12:50

I discovered I was pregnant with DS (now 4) at 26 weeks! I had no symptoms at all other than a bit of tiredness .

(My last 5 weeks were hell however with heartburn, his head digging in my ribs and him doing a constant dance on my bladder).

Try not to panic OP and good luck.

DieDeutschLehrerin · 22/12/2016 12:55

I've been pregnant twice, both successful, both symptomless. 2 beautiful, healthy, 8lb 10 and 9lb 9oz babies. Try not to worry because something isn't happening Smile

CoffeeandChocolateplease · 22/12/2016 13:10

I had no sickness in either pregnancy, my only symptom was tiredness too. I didn't even go to the loo more often! Like you, I was so worried, my husband said that at the 12 week scan, when we saw the heartbeat, he could see my shoulders visibly relax. I was certain there would be nothing there. Both children now eating me out of house and home!

If you can find something to distract you for the next few weeks it will help - the 8 weeks until the scan went so much quicker the second time around as I was so busy looking after DS. Congratulations and all the best for your pregnancy and beyond!

sockgnome · 22/12/2016 22:13

Thank you for posting this though I'm sad that you are anxious. I'm 7 weeks and feeling exactly the same worrying that I don't have enough symptoms. Never occurred to me before that I'd feel like this! Very tired and craving cheesy carbs but tbh that's not an abnormal state of affairs. Otherwise nothing, had some mild cramps but that's stopped now. 12 week scan (which I'm yet to get a date for) feels so far away! Conclusion: other than threads like these which I find very reassuring, step away from the internet!
