I've bought my nephews pyjamas as part of present.... when I get home to wrap, they are vest and long johns set.

I won't be able to return.
Can I gift there to a 9 yo and 14 yo boy?

9 yr old, yes.
14 yr old, no - unless he does lots of outdoorsy stuff.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 20/12/2016 16:51

I would say no unless they are keen skiers or something. Why can't you take them back? Most places accept extended time to return things over Christmas period.

ThePeoplesChamp · 20/12/2016 16:52

no!!!!!

Caboodle · 20/12/2016 16:53

Yes. Why not?

GinAndTeaForMe · 20/12/2016 16:53

Totally agree with you all, I was hoping I was wrong. I will only see them before Christmas briefly this evening so that's why I can't return.?

I bought my son a super hero themed long johns and short sleeve vest top which he wears in place of pj's. To be honest they are fairly indistinguishable from pj's I have purchased in the past.

Can you post a link to what you have purchased?

GetTheeBehindMeSanta · 20/12/2016 16:55

Give them the cash equivalent, and make a joke about buying them pants by accident to explain giving them money if you wouldn't ordinarily? Then return the vests etc.

What on earth is a long johns set?

GinAndTeaForMe · 20/12/2016 17:00

Basically, tight thermal underwear, crumpet.

FrogsSpawnofSanta · 20/12/2016 17:04

I got thermal long sleeve top and longjohn's out of markies for my 7 year old as pyjamas. Very cosy for this time of year, he loves them. I would just give them.

GinAndTeaForMe · 20/12/2016 17:07

Frogspawn, do you think the would suitable on a 14yo for pyjamas?

OP posts:
GinAndTeaForMe · 20/12/2016 17:08

*they would be...

Really need to check before posting.

OP posts:
HallowedMimic · 20/12/2016 17:09

They won't be much use as pyjamas, but my 14 year old would appreciate them for Scouts/DoE.

mmmuffins · 20/12/2016 17:26

I would say it's ok, I had lots of thermal underwear as a kid as my family was into skiing, but my sisters and I would just wear it around the house.

I don't ski anymore but I still wear thermal underwear around the house sometimes. It is similar enough to pyjamas.

clarehhh · 20/12/2016 17:26

Stop at garage on way for gift token and selection box.

Astro55 · 20/12/2016 17:28

DS has several sets when playing out and football training - wears them in bed in seriously cold nights -

They will be fine!!

Astro55 · 20/12/2016 17:28

Oh - he's 12

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 20/12/2016 17:30

DS loves his long johns and vests for cadets and for his part time job (stewarding outdoors). He wears his long johns round the house too. They are fine on boys.

Mindtrope · 20/12/2016 17:47

It's not too late to get them a gift and return the items later.

FrogsSpawnofSanta · 20/12/2016 19:11

Those are ones I got my son. I did make the same mistake as you, they look like pyjamas. I like them because they are a bit more tight fitting so don't twist about during the night.

They should be fine for the 9 year old, not sure about a 14 year old. He might prefer something baggier. Can you give the receipt with them? They should be able to exchange in any M&S, assuming they have one local to them.

JustSpeakSense · 20/12/2016 21:21

Not for a 14yo sorry Confused

Salmotrutta · 20/12/2016 21:24

Nothing wrong with long johns for a 14 yr old if he is into outdoor stuff!

Is he OP?

tinyterrors · 20/12/2016 21:31

They'll be fine for both of them. They look just like pjs, it's not as if they're plain black/grey. If the 14yo is doing DofE or scouts they'll come in handy.
