www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/dec/20/nigel-farage-accuses-jo-cox-widower-brendan-cox-of-supporting-extremism

"Farage said: “Well, of course, he would know more about extremists than me, Mr Cox. He backs organisations like Hope Not Hate, who masquerade as being lovely and peaceful, but actually pursue violent and undemocratic means.”

I really hope that Hope not Hate sue him.

It's not shutting down debate to sue, if the lawyers think there is a case wrt libel / slander.
It's not shutting down debate to correct false statements, or to criticise an opinion, or express a different opinion.

Farage seems very sensitive, but he certainly dishes it out, e.g. calling Obama a "creature"

Yes, it's unfair to connect Farage with the actions of a far-right terrorist, so why is it ok to blame Merkel for Islamic terrorism ? She's no political or religious cause in common with them.

Life is not fair

Yep

And Brendan Cox didn't refer to the murder of his wife or the Polish workers as "Farage's dead"
So let's be fair to Merkel too

Oh and an Islamic terrorist who's found fit to plead and go to jail should be called a terrorist despite any MH issues.
So a far-right terrorist found fit to plead is also a terrorist

BTW It is worth reiterating Farage has put forward no evidence to support his very serious allegations re Hope not Hate - that they "pursue violent and undemocratic means.” The right to free speech does not extend to defamation (if that is what he has done). If Farage believes in the rule of law (a British value) that includes respecting the rules on defamation. Banging on about free speech and no platforming doesn't cut it when he is making such a serious allegation. He needs to produce very credible evidence or apologise.

This open door policy is coming in for a lot of criticism in Germany. I don't think it was wrong of Nigel Farage to point out that he thinks it was a mistake. It was horrific what happened to Mr Cox and his family but I agree he shouldn't use this to shut up opposition to unlimited immigration.

Farage did not just criticise German policy on refugees. He blamed Merkel specifically for the killings. He was wrong and was rightly criticised by Brendan Cox (who did not shut anything down).

It is fascinating how criticism of Farage is interpreted by his supporters as shutting down opposition rather than legitimate debate. It is like they don't like democracy

He isn't trying to shut down debate. He had criticised farage, in return for which he has been accused of links to violence-supporting groups
There's clearly an enemy of free speech here and it isn't Brendan cox

Farage has a valid point about the dangers of Merkel's unvetted, uncontrolled migration. He should be heard.

PP - you're sad he's alive and you call him a frog faced cunt?

Do you teach your children to react with such hatred, wishing people dead and hurling invective based on physical appearance when they're confronted with a different opinion?

No wonder the world is in such a state if this is the so-called voice of tolerance.

If farage has valid points he should stick to making them and quit personal attacks on those who disagree with him.

And so close to that poor lovely widower and the two little children's first Christmas without Jo. I hope Hope not Hate sue and win big. Thanks for the link user1471451327
Mistoffeleze I hear what you say with horror about the tactics of the hard left thugs, they are to be condemned too.
Trouble is, this has been a political coup d'etat, and the moderation I valued so much in this country has been at least unsettled, if not dangerously damaged.

I have not called Nigel Farage anything unkind and still think his comments were appalling. Why are you not condemning the appalling allegations Farage made against Brendan Cox and Hope not Hate (and Angela Merkel actually)?

Your bias is very apparent

I wish people would direct the blame at those responsible for those murders in Berlin. Many people think Mrs Merkel's policy was wrong. Should she be blamed for the killings. Not really. But many shouty Lefties blame Tony Blair for the killing in Iraq. This demonising Farage helps nobody.

I see the right wing spinners are out in force. If you can't defend the indefensible, then spin that your opponent is doing something worse. At the moment Cox is apparently 'silencing' Farage. Give it a day or two and we'll have 'discovered' that he is a left wing extremist who is inciting violence. Just you wait and see.

Farage specifically blamed Merkel for the killings on twitter-so deserves all the condemnation he is getting. He chose to start this particular argument so cannot complain when people call him out - the snowflake

I did fee very uneasy about how jo cow death was used politically by many people (on the left).

The argument against farage is not "yh but no cox" because we would be in a "yh but nice", yh but the Norway bloke.

If Nigel farage criticises Merkel and says she is responsible argue in response to why she is not responsible or the policy she brought into effect was not to blame or not wrong.

As for hope not hate, I know little about them so I am not going to comment on that part of the story.

At the end of the day it is wrong to use jo cox as a political pawn in response to argument.

We are going around in circles. .Jo Cox's murder(not just death- it was premeditated murder) was found in court to be political : “Thomas Mair’s intention was to kill [Mrs Cox] in what was a planned and pre-meditated murder for a political and/or ideological cause.”

It is wrong for Farage to blame Merkel for the German killings. Farage can criticise a policy without inferring that Merkel is responsible for the killings

The responsibility is solely that of the killer or killers whoever they are. For Farage to link the killings to a particular politician can lead to the sort of warped thinking that inspired people like Mair and Brevik. Farage is such an irresponsible man

What I'm trying to say is we can all use tragic events for political gain. It gets us nowhere but it's wrong to counter argue farage with what he did.

Okay put it this way if I left your do open at night, went around town asking people to come in and people I knew some could be somewhat radical/willing to cause harm but invited them anyway without checking them . If they then come in to your house you would Hold me responsible. Isn't it the same in regards to Germany and Merkels policy.

She is not responsible fine. She is too blame for allowing thousands of jihadis in.

The far right never sleep do they? They are on here trying to pretend they're being reasonable but their agenda is clear. Every so often they make a mistake and betray their true agenda. They minimise even the most heinous actions of their kind and anyone who challenges the far right agenda is accused of 'shutting down debate' or being 'hard left' or not listening to the 'concerns of the people'.

Make no mistake they are here to steer people further rightwards by dressing up hate as concern and reasonableness. They have shifted us so far rightwards that mainstream opinions that would've been seen as right wing in the 90s are now hard left. They're like wolves in sheeps clothing.

Online far right radicalisation is a growing threat.
