Would it be completely crazy to give the DCs their main present today?

Three DCs, aged 9, 6 and 5.

DC1 is poorly. He has a nasty cough, fever, blocked up nose, sore throat, etc. Was up half the night, despite Calpol.

We were stuck in yesterday, we're going to be stuck in today. DCs 2 and 3 are bored and bickery, DC1 is ill, bored and bickery.

Their Christmas presents from me are Kindle Fires. I was always planning to give them to the DCs on Christmas Eve - partly because we have a long car journey to my parent's house, partly because they'll still have their stockings with me first thing on Christmas morning, and partly because they'll be with their dad on Christmas Day from 10am where they'll get loads more presents.

I'm now thinking of bringing it forward to today. It would keep them all occupied, and it would also mean I could make sure they're loaded with exactly the games and videos they want.

Downside is that it's not traditional, but I actually can't see any other significant issue.

What would you do?

I'd definitely do it op! They'll be enjoyed for a few extra days, what's the harm there?!

Ilovehamabeads · 20/12/2016 17:44

My DC have had their presents for over a week. We won't be home over Christmas and they aren't usable outside the home so we surprised them with it early. DC understand that they have had their presents and that there won't be any more from me on Christmas Day. They are perfectly fine with it and love the present. I've never done this before but I'm sure they won't remember this as the year they got nothing on Christmas Day. Go for it if you think it's the right thing to do.

I gave the Kindles to the DC - it was the best thing I could have done and so far I don't regret it one little bit. The 5 year old has played with his more than the other two, and all three understand that they have now had their present from me.

This afternoon has been calm and peaceful.

Regarding the cost; I said that money is being watched carefully, which to me means sticking to a budget. Mine stretched to one Kindle Fire per child, plus stockings, but nothing left over.

Dragon

I forgot it's solstice. Shit :(
We used to celebrate that every year when we were kids.

littlefirtree · 20/12/2016 20:40

Glad they are enjoying them! Smile

ChaCha I hope you don't mind me writing this, but, you sound like things are really hard & possibly miserable for you at the moment.

Brew Cake Flowers

It also sounds like you're doing your absolute best to keep your head up eye, focus on your children and generally not let it all squash you down.

You have oodles of respect and also lots of positive warm vibes coming in your direction.

I'm so glad your dc loved their special mummy presents and also you get to have some proper time with them enjoying their new toys with you. Whatever the date, they will treasure the Christmas time they have with their mum Xmas Smile

Miscellaneous

Absolutely. Yes to everything you just wrote.

Merry Christmas OP and I hope your children are feeling better.

PoppyThankful · 21/12/2016 16:09

Only a few more days to wait.

ChaChaChaCh4nges · 21/12/2016 16:31

Today has been lovely. DC1 was well enough for his play date friend to come over. All four children have been playing beautifully together, including on the Kindles.

DC3's first words on waking this morning were "I love my Kindle, Mummy, thank you, can I play with it now?" Smile

Still not regretting giving them early.

That's great OP. You did exactly the right thing.

amammabear · 22/12/2016 10:07

Well my kids have just opened their presents from me! They're having a fab time playing with them right now, then we're going out for a bit and the elves will make a delivery while we're out
