This is so sad.

We're just back from the market in Birmingham, concrete blocks have recently been put in place there in an attempt to prevent something like this from happening. It was being discussed on local radio a week or two ago because there were concerns that Christmas markets would be a target.

It's so sad.

SpringerS · 19/12/2016 22:14

There has never, ever been a point in human history where we have experienced less war than we have today. You mightn't know it to watch the news but the facts are that as landmasses, North America, South America and Europe are free of war. Apart from the middle east, Asia is free of war and despite what most people think the majority of Africa is also actually free from war.

Consume less fear based media and look for research based facts. We aren't living in some Star Trek like utopia just yet but ultimately war is less profitable than peace. And while we are seeing a flexing of national muscles as the US declines as a superpower, we are far more likely to see a further reduction of war as the century continues.

Haven't RTFT but I am getting so irritated by people talking about that fucking idiot woman! Stop talk on about her, just ignore it! She doesn't care if you like her of hate her, she Just's wants attention and that is exactly what your all giving her by talking about her now.

Just ignore the little twat and hopefully she will fuck off back under her bridge eventually!

This story is so sad Flowers RIP to those lost, and I wish anyone there, or with family/friends there the best of hope that you /they are okay.

Wookiecookies · 19/12/2016 22:16

Who knows Bobkin, I think its unlikely that War will play out like that for us, as is usually the case in these situations, the poorest and most vulnerable countries will sadly suffer most. I dont think we would be totally untouched by it though, thats for sure. Europe is the biggest problem right now, its only a matter of time I think with the breakdown of the EU, austerity and problems in the middle east spilling over into neighboring states, especially the smaller baltic states.

NotStoppedAllDay · 19/12/2016 22:17

Wind your neck in Rose

People can say what they like! It's not up to you to police this or any other thread!

Rip to those who lost their lives today. Awful

SilverHawk · 19/12/2016 22:20

Europe is not free of war, nor is Asia or Africa. Where do you find your news Springer

Wookiecookies · 19/12/2016 22:20

SpringerS, agreed, but history is the best research here I feel. The issues may differ, politics and borders may have changed dramatically, but humanity is one constant factor in all of this, and we seem doomed to keep repeating the same mistakes over and over.

War is immensely profitable, see Bush and Clinton et al.

Libitina · 19/12/2016 22:21

Concrete barriers suddenly appeared around the Birmingham market - I presume in response to some information as they weren't there initially. I didn't fancy going anyway, particularly with my children.

They were there when we went about 3 weeks ago..

RoseGoldHippie · 19/12/2016 22:21

Ok fine! I'll 'wind me kneck in' and just leave because I think giving publicity to that dreadful woman with something like this is sick.

People are all saying why is she saying this? Why doesn't she shit up and have compassion? Etc, well it's because people are talking about it!

RoseGoldHippie · 19/12/2016 22:22

And now even I'm doing it so am going shut up now.

Wookiecookies · 19/12/2016 22:24

No rose dont shut up, you are entitled to your opinion too! Another universal constant here appears to be the hatred of KH and her ill timed bull shit. That we can all agree in I think! And thats all the air time she is getting from me.

SpringerS · 19/12/2016 22:24

Europe is most certainly free of war, there are no wars taking place on our continent. And so is the vast, vast, vast majority of Asia. So is the majority of Africa. Terrorist attacks are not war. War is in decline and will likely continue to decline.

SpringerS · 19/12/2016 22:25

War is immensely profitable, see Bush and Clinton et al.

It absolutely is, very much so. But as it turns out peace is proving to be much more so.

Wookiecookies · 19/12/2016 22:27

Springer, we are referring to the assasination if the russian ambassador in turkey as a catalyst. Not the terrorist attack itself, off track I know but that is what started the WW3 conversation.

Wookiecookies · 19/12/2016 22:27

Of

Madeyemoodysmum · 19/12/2016 22:30

I think we have been at war since twin towers. It is a world war already just not fought in the same way as history dictates. How may country's are affected. Of course it's a world war
Rip to all of the lost today.

SilverHawk · 19/12/2016 22:32

What you may call annexation, I would call an act of war.

SilverHawk · 19/12/2016 22:33

History may well prove you right Madeye . Crusades every 1000 years?

Pluto30 · 19/12/2016 22:35

We've been at War since before 9/11, but it's increased since 2003.

However, it's not the full scale global war that we tend to think of when we think of war. I don't think it's exactly improbable that it may devolve into that kind of war over the next five-ish years, though.

1horatio · 19/12/2016 22:37

So... those of you who think we are at war/will be (especially that think terrorism will be the new form of warfare or whatever),

Just out of interest, your opinion on gun control?

1horatio · 19/12/2016 22:38

Please mentally strike the whatever, that was disrespectful.

Wookiecookies · 19/12/2016 22:38

How do you mean 1horatio? Are you talking from an american perspective?

SilverHawk · 19/12/2016 22:39

Then throw in China, they have bought huge swathes of Africa for obvious reasons, plus prime estate in most European countries.
