This is so sad.

OP posts:

More hate for Katie Hopkins than for the terrorists on this thread

They do not deserve to be spoken of either. They are fucking vile (sorry for the swearing) This should be about the victims

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 19/12/2016 20:52

Flowers arch

Pluto30 · 19/12/2016 20:54

The Zurich one was people praying in an islamic centre being shot. I doubt there will be an islamic perpetrator, tbh. sad

It's likely to be intra-Muslim as others have suggested.

Wookiecookies · 19/12/2016 20:54

That was your thread dontbesilly? Thank goodness, I bumped it as soon as I heard about this as my first thought was you and your post. So glad to hear you are ok!

1horatio · 19/12/2016 20:54

In Zürich:

3 people have been injured, some of them critically.

And they found one dead person nearby, right under a bridge. They are unsure of there's a connection.

They currently have no idea what the reason was. Whether this was politically motivated and if yes how (a struggle between different Muslim groups, somebody anti-Muslim in general etc)

AnnaForbes · 19/12/2016 20:54

Bobkinyoyo, I'm sure she does. However, I'm saving my rancour for the bastard terrorists who are hell-bent on ruining our way of life.

dontbesillyhenry · 19/12/2016 20:55

Thank you. Will more than likely go again next year too. No giving in

TheCompanyOfCats · 19/12/2016 20:56

I know @Anna. Confused

1horatio · 19/12/2016 20:57

Anna

Very true.

I have family members that are arming themselves (not in the U.K.). It's scary :(

Bobkinyoyo · 19/12/2016 20:57

anna

The problem is people confuse terrorists and muslims.

Of course the terrorists are vile. No one has said otherwise.

MrsBungle · 19/12/2016 20:58

Jeez, my brother lives in central Berlin. Thank goodness he is fine. Sad

ParadiseCity · 19/12/2016 20:58

FWIW I felt very safe at Birmingham Christmas market, there were loads of security measures, very clear they were moving people in particular directions, loads of security people, lots of barriers and cameras.

BubbleFairy · 19/12/2016 20:59

stumblymonkey DP and I are in Berlin from the 29th to 31st. Just spoke to him, we shall still be going. Last December we were booked for Paris, and then the attacks happened, and we still went. It's devastating, but we can't put our lives on hold.

DoYouRememberJustinBobby · 19/12/2016 20:59

Of course the terrorists (if it is confirmed as such, although looking likely) deserve more scorn than Hopkins but I think that goes without saying, surely?

Archfarchnad · 19/12/2016 21:00

"If we were able to do it here why on earth not in Germany?"

I've only visited two markets locally in Berlin this year and neither of them seemed to have extra security in the way of concrete barriers stopping this kind of lorry attack from happening. Most markets are also freely accessible with no entry and exit points, and no security checking bags. I noticed that contrasted hugely with a fair I went to in Monaco last month - this kind of attack simply couldn't have happened there. I suspect part of it is financial - Berlin is broke. Another problem is that many cities have one huge Xmas market in the city centre, which is often pedestrianised - but Berlin has loads of smaller markets all over the place, every district has one or two, and it would be impossible to seal off the areas entirely. breitscheid Platz, where this happened, is a thin strip of pedstrianised area where the church is located, but left and right of it there are important roads which would really knacker the traffic flow if they were closed off. It would be impossible to close off major roads adjoining every market in Berlin. So I don't know what the solution is.

PacificDogwod · 19/12/2016 21:00

I think the only possible response to these events from us 'normal' folks is to NOT repay hate with hate (you listening, KH?) and to keep on keeping on.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 19/12/2016 21:01

When did you go Paradise? We went just after it opened & felt like sheep in a pen.

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 19/12/2016 21:01

Very true arch - about smaller markets - whereas Birmingham is one large one.

BERLIN Is broke - really?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/12/2016 21:02

We have no idea about who the shooter was in Zurich. Actually, we don't know about Berlin yet.

What I find very sad about these threads is some posters getting angry with others, because they feel that people are angry about the wrong thing or aren't saying the right things. There is so much anger and hate in the world, why bring it in here against each other?

Bobkinyoyo · 19/12/2016 21:02

Totally agree kitten

DoYouRememberJustinBobby · 19/12/2016 21:03

Kitten agreed.

Wookiecookies · 19/12/2016 21:03

Well said kitten.

Archfarchnad · 19/12/2016 21:04

The police are advising us all to stay home right now. Yup, I think we can manage that. German news is reporting that one suspect has been killed and another arrested.

whyohwhy000 · 19/12/2016 21:04

Terrorism is all about spreading fear (terror). To quote Linda Smith, "it gives him the oxygen of publicity and I'm not happy with him having the oxygen of oxygen".

MrsNutella · 19/12/2016 21:06

Arch Im so sorry this has been so close to home for you. I'm in Hannover, we had a scare a while ago before a football match in the summer. But nothing else has been even rumoured...

There should be some disguised street furniture- bins, bollards, benches etc at the Christmas markets but that all needs a huge amount of investment and planning to implement. Our local markets are busy and do extend right to the kerbside so it would all need to be moved and possibly re-designed to even fit new features in.
