Lots of people buy them just because they are traditional, but surely less of us do that than previous generations so maybe they'll die out eventually.

I could live off it. I reckon I'd survive for several years.

It is rank, it has been rank the entire 36 years I have been alive and will continue to be rank until the day I die. As will mince pies and any sort of fruit cake, christmas or otherwise

I love it, I could eat it all year round - and mince pies. Apparently Americans don't eat it or any dried fruit cakes / puddings! For that reason alone I shall never emigrate there! Grin

I have always thought the opposite! I don't like it at all,but I seem to be in the minority. I don't know anyone, apart from my DD,who doesn't like it. When people find out that I don't like it,they seem genuinely surprised. I don't like sausages either, and that always gets the same reaction. My DP has NEVER even tried Christmas pudding. He is originally from Ethiopia and it is not a 'thing' over there. And because I don't like it,and therefore never buy it,he has missed out on the dubious 'pleasure'. He was admiring one that someone was making on a TV cookery show at the weekend,so I have said I will buy him a miniature one and see what he thinks.

I love it and Christmas cake. Mince pies are my favourite though. DH's entire family pull a face at anything with dried fruit in though - I enjoy winding them up by going on about how delicious such things are!

I've always assumed that liking things made out of dried fruit is some sort of hangover from rationing, when food was so terrible that fruitcake and Xmas pudding seemed to taste good.

Because it is made with the Devil's Droppings (aka dried fruit) and based on observations of the texture, probably gives you the indigestion you'd expect if you ate something resembling a rock.

I also hate mince pies and Christmas cake, and pick all the little crunchy turds out of muesli to make it edible.

Christmas pudding is minging. Too strong. It's the confectionary equivalent of accidentally drinking undiluted squash.

Homemade (or a really good quality one from a proper bakery) is usually ok. Shop-bought Christmas puddings are usually vile though. Sticky, greasy, claggy. I made my own figgy pudding the last few years - wow what a difference. And I love (good, homemade or proper bakery bought) Christmas cake. Mince pies - I'm happy either way as long as the pastry is buttery & crumbly, & not cheap nasty claggy crap.

As to why people only eat these things at Christmas - we start buying mince pies in October, as soon as they appear in the shops, as DD amongst others is obsessed with them. We easily get through a dozen boxes every year in this house. I've been known to make mince pies in summer or for Easter...

I make mine with 100 year old family recipe, and am actually finishing last year's pudding this year.

Love it, with brandy butter, sugar etc.

Mind you, would never buy one - has to be home made.

Brother is a hater though..

Looks revolting, smells revolting, tastes revolting. I won't have it in the house.

Hate nearly all the traditional Xmas things - mince pies, christmas cake, stollen, mulled wine. Not even very keen on turkey. Cinnamon makes me want to throw up.

Apart from that though, I love Christmas. Grin

Hate xmas pud, xmas cake and mince pies for all of the reasons already given.

Some evil fucker gave me a cookie once. I thought it was chocolate chip, but no, they were bloody raisins. In a cookie!
