Seriously are people constantly looking out for a way to be offended Hmm first world problems!

OP posts:
Missswatch · 18/12/2016 15:38

That's what they believe. Apparently conditioning by the patriarchy makes women weaker than men

BertrandRussell · 18/12/2016 15:39

What are we talking about please?

You won't forget that link, will you, Miss?

Lorelei76 · 18/12/2016 15:39

Misss, you are talking about a biological man fighting against a biological woman?

That is not "gender is a social construct". you are talking about biological sex, not gender.

Gender is a social construct is intended in the sense of some idiots (looking at you Science Museum) thinking that boy brains are good at maths and girls brains are good at sympathy, that kind of thing.

DeviTheGaelet · 18/12/2016 15:39

If a man has to go to Thailand to find someone willing to have sex with him, I'd assume the main motivation for the woman is money (and possibly coercion) and therefore he can't be sure he has true consent.
Maybe he could, you know, not have sex?

BeyondIBringYouGoodTidings · 18/12/2016 15:39

I have never met this mysterious "they". They sound unhinged.
I'm sure that isn't your intention at all though.

BertrandRussell · 18/12/2016 15:40

"That's what they believe. Apparently conditioning by the patriarchy makes women weaker than men"
Eh?

Missswatch · 18/12/2016 15:42

Maybe he could, you know, not have sex?

Sexual desire is built into us. We want it and enjoy it. Nothing wrong with having sex and no one should be shamed for doing so

It's like the 'all sex is rape' crap all over again

periwinklepickspoppies · 18/12/2016 15:42

Yeah I've def had my eyes opened. I can 100% say I am NOT a feminist

Shame on you then OP.

Missswatch · 18/12/2016 15:43

And then there's the feminist bechdale test. Can't we just enjoy the damn film?

VeryBitchyRestingFace · 18/12/2016 15:43

If a 40yo overweight balding man goes to Thailand to have consenstual sex, what is wrong with that? He doesn't stand a chance of getting sex in Western countries

What a load of tripe.

40 yr old overweight balding men are having sex throughout the western world.

WTF did I just read? Hmm

DeviTheGaelet · 18/12/2016 15:44

This is very weird

BertrandRussell · 18/12/2016 15:44

"Sexual desire is built into us. We want it and enjoy it. Nothing wrong with having sex and no one should be shamed for doing so"

Well. If they go to developing countries and have sex with poor teenagers for money then yes they bloody well ought to be shamed for it!

DeviTheGaelet · 18/12/2016 15:46

Sexual desire is built into us. We want it and enjoy it. Nothing wrong with having sex and no one should be shamed for doing so

No totally agree, not sure why you would think otherwise Confused
But sex isn't a human right. It needs to be wanted by both sides. Your example suggested paying for sex should be seen as a-OK otherwise the poor fat bald man won't get any. I don't agree. I think he'd be better not having sex if he can't be sure he has consent.

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2401788/Sex-tourism-Meet-middle-aged-middle-class-women-Britains-female-sex-tourists.html

This seems ok. But men aren't allowed to do it it seems

Lessthanaballpark · 18/12/2016 15:47

But equality of opportunity is not equality of outcome.

Agreed. But we don't know what the outcome could be whilst we don't have equality of opportunity.

However, in agreeing that there is a biological basis of gendered behaviour ..., you are disagreeing with 95% of the posters in FWR.

I disagree. I think I'm no exception. A lot of FWR posters think the same.

I tire of the amount of times posters have said 'gender is a social construct' as if this is not even debatable.

That's probably because there is a lot of confusion surrounding the definitions of the words "gender" and "sex".

For some the word gender by its very definition refers specifically to the cultural and socially prescribed traits and behaviours of a particular sex so you can say that gender is a social construct but still believe that there are biological differences between men and women.

blackcherries · 18/12/2016 15:49

Feminists tend not to like science when it doesn't favour them
I like science enough to ask for a source/citation for this please?

Boundaries · 18/12/2016 15:50

miss

Please link to any feminist who has said any of the things you are saying.
Just one.
Any one?

Because all the feminists on this thread are, I imagine, as baffled as I am by your assertions..

Lorelei76 · 18/12/2016 15:56

Miss - re that Bechdel test - I never enjoy a film if it's just women being pointless or talking about men. I don't actually apply the test criteria, it's just something I already know.

blackcherries · 18/12/2016 15:56

I honestly think her dictionary's on the blink if she thinks feminism is about any of the things she's posted! Trying to be kind but I think we're all talking about one thing and miss is talking about... things that trolls on Daily Mail pages say? I'm not sure.

blackcherries · 18/12/2016 15:57

What do you think the "bechdale" test is testing for, OP? Whether it's a good film?

BeyondIBringYouGoodTidings · 18/12/2016 15:57

Well, it's certainly entertaining!!

I'd also like a link to one feminist claiming that women only lose out in physical fights against men because of social conditioning. Hell, it'll help solve the DV figures, won't it.

blackcherries · 18/12/2016 15:57

ahhh, sorry I meant miss not OP. Thread has taken a turn...

user1482025636 · 18/12/2016 16:00

Misswatch we're not just animals. We can control our urges.

Lessthanaballpark · 18/12/2016 16:01

Today 15:38 Missswatch

"That's what they believe. Apparently conditioning by the patriarchy makes women weaker than men"

Watch the following BBC documentary and you'll see that in the case of the girl in Jordan that actually IS true. Her dad actually stops her from doing things that would make her physically stronger because he feels it's inappropriate for her as a girl.

No one is saying that women could be physically stronger than men. But a lot of women would be a lot more confident if girls were encouraged to pursue physical strength for its own benefits.

MarjorieSimpson · 18/12/2016 16:02

Something to remember too is that feminists or FWR arent an homogenous group all following ONE and only one theory.
All the stuff about gender and sex, how much sex (and hormones) have an effect on behaviour etc... there isn't one theory that says all feminists believe that xxx.
On the contrary, there are plenty of different POV and until we stop talking about FWR as if they had just one voice, there is no way yu can decide if what feminists say is logical or not.

Imo that's an issue and is the way 'feminists' are usually reported.
What would be inetresting to see is if this report si from men who don't want the consensus changed. So putting all women that are fighting for their rights to be recognised in the same bag and showing how some theories are bonkers is a very good way to
1- make people think that all feminists are crazy extremists, even if this is not the case
2- ensure that fewer and fewer women see themselves as feminists and therefore will have less power to change things (because they don't recognise themselves as a group fighting for a specific goal together)
