Stuck femme cup. Help!

heythereconniver · 17/12/2016 11:10

I took the femme cup/mooncup thread to heart and ordered one.

I inserted it in the shower and it sort of disappeared.

I can just feel the tip of the stalk. But that's it. No chance of getting a hold on it.

I've tried bearing down. DP can't get it out either.

Any suggestions anyone?

This also happened to me, please don't let this put you off! Here's a video from precious stars really worth a watch, she's awesome!

Next time if you can reach the stem don't pull straight down. Rock or twist the cup with the stem until the seal breaks, then ease it down gently.
Look on the bright side your pelvic floor sounds like is in good shape.

I had to ring NHS 111 who advised me to do starjumps and it worked but the carpet was unhappy about it

NotSayingImBatman · 17/12/2016 16:59

Sometimes I get a notion that maybe I'll buy a mooncup. Then one of these threads pops up and I decide I'll just stick with bodyform towels.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/12/2016 17:25

NotSaying
This doesn't happen often honest!
I have used a mooncup for years and this has happened to me on a couple of occasions when endometriosis caused my muscles to spasm.
I wouldn't go back to disposable SP now.

FKat2016 · 17/12/2016 17:53

I'm strongly considering trying the mooncup but the fear of it getting stuck has always stopped me!

MeetMeAtMidnight · 17/12/2016 18:09

I'm sure it's all the wonderful environmentally conscious, life-changing things aficionados say it is but like others, when I read threads like this, I'm not sure of the wisdom of me shoving something up there that might get stuck. What happens if you're not at home when it needs emptying and this happens? And, incidentally, how do you clean it when out and about or do you just empty it and shove it back up without the need to clean it? Genuinely curious. I'm not easily embarrassed and don't much care what others think but I kinda draw the line at rinsing out a bloody cup in a public washbasin, and I'm damned if I'm doing starjumps in a public loo!

londonrach · 17/12/2016 18:24

Like cara...i dont get mooncup (why did i almost write moonpig just now) love on mn. Yuk. Op hope you find it, i will always stick with my towels. Dont change something that works

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/12/2016 18:27

Meet me
If you're out, you just empty it down the loo, give it a wipe with loo roll and pop it back. It's medical grade silicone and only contains blood so it's clean.
It is really rare for this to happen and less likely once you are used to it because you know what to expect so don't tense up.

FKat2016 · 17/12/2016 18:31

But on the other hand I know two women who have had the same getting stuck issue with tampons (string broke/strong curled up) and had to have them removed my GP! So I know it's not only mooncups which carry the risk... I think it's the fear of the unknown that gets me.

Also... What if it gets dislodged and leaks?? I imagine it would be worse than leaking with tampon or sanitary towel as it would have collected blood for however long as opposed to soaking it up... Shock

amusedbush · 17/12/2016 18:35

londonrach

I find pads the ultimate in 'yuck' so I suppose it's each to their own Smile

FKat2016 · 17/12/2016 18:37

Slightly confused as to why people think 'ew' about mooncups but not st's or tampons... Mooncups seem loads more hygienic to me.

Flaskoftea · 17/12/2016 18:40

For anyone with questions about using a cup, I too would recommend the Precious Stars videos linked to above. She talks about how to use a cup, how to decide what kind of cup to get etc.

Mrsemcgregor · 17/12/2016 18:49

FK - I have never had my mooncup come dislodged even during my heaviest flow whilst doing exercise. It has little holes which create a strong suction so it doesn't move about in there!

I love my cup and will never go back to disposable sanitary items.

Like other have said, it reduces cramps, lightens flow, doesn't smell at all and saves a fortune!

Wonkydonkey44 · 17/12/2016 19:16

Mine always migrates up after being in during the night . I always manage to retrieve it but I've frightened myself a few times lol

FKat2016 · 17/12/2016 19:23

Thanks MrsMcgregor! I'm going to be brave and get one (and hopefully not get it stuck).

Crunchymum · 17/12/2016 19:44

I'm still on the mooncup fence but my fange is cringing reading this!! Maybe a cringing fanny is good for mooncup use though?? Grin

Mrsemcgregor · 17/12/2016 20:04

FK- I got mine last January (weird ny resolution!) and I haven't used a tampon since. The first few times were a bit unusual but once you get used to it there is no going back!
